While T9 is tougher, but the Duncan is pretty strong. When you did the Hawke, I was doing the Duncan. I had my personal dmg record in her, with all the achievements but kraken. I averaged over 1900 base xp getting to the St. Vince. Her torps are super powerful.
Eh, been grinding it and for me..its armor is so weak it gets pounded badly in T9 to T11 matches. Since almost all ships have longer range than it. When you close in, you might get HE spammed or SAP. SAP demolishes this ship.
Duncan felt very strong for me, actually one of my quickest grinds because I really felt like I could carry games in it compared to the previous ships of the line
I actually like the Duncan, one of the few T9 I didn't want to XP-jump. Surprisingly fast and manuverable for a BB of it's size, had some really good times in it.
7:17 Aktchually Jingles (lol) the Conqueror heal (maybe Goliath? see below) is the best "heal everything" heal. It heals 75% of raw penetration damage (HE and AP), the best in the game. (Only 10% citadel damage though, like all other BB's). Minotaur only heals 50% of penetration damage, which is the "standard" heal percentage, but it also heals 50% of citadel damage, compared to the standard cruiser 33% (like Salem). Duncan and St. Vincent heal 60% of pen damage and 10% of citadel damage. Interestingly, Goliath gets 60% pen damage AND 50% citadel damage heal, which is why it's so tanky.
Honestly I wa thinking that when i started playing wows , I started with Franch bb because I won T5,6,7,8 in containers in February 2018 , Alsace was terrible for , same as Flecher I fly thure playing like Paolo Emilio & Seattle I have Cleaveland when it was T6 and when I came back in June 2018 (I made pause from game March-June) Cleaveland was T8 was not so bad I manage get my only Solo Warrior on Richelieu ... I did not knew what Solo Warrior is , and why everybody inchat congratulate me , sinking 5 ships being 1 vs 5 (yup solo warior is 1 vs 4 I was better) , but when I started to grind T9 I made one misstake , I tried to save some credits , and i did not buy modules , and WG is scamy company , and when you dont do that you get shity MM = you are feed for better players & whales , I literally checked games line up after every game , and oposite team where 60% very good player 58%+ wr and rest 40%+ wr players with shitload of premium ships -_- , so my advise before you play T9 battle get all modules , you get better MM .
Since my first line were the USN BBs, I have the opposite impression. On the other hand, having survived up to T7, and then actually doing it again to unlock the Kansas, I feel like there's nothing the game can throw at me at this point. Same deal with the KMS line, where I had to grind to the GK and only got a Month out of it before they replaced it with the Preussen, so I had to get the FdG out of mothballs to do it again :)))
This has been a trend since forever. Ships like Roon, Ibuki, Izumo, and Neptune are borderline unplayable - even more so now when they can be potentially matched up with superships. They only exist to get farmed/devstriked. I did surprisingly well with the Donskoi and Iowa though, but this was long before superships were a thing.
I found Duncan to be very good and enjoyable to play. Super heal, good HE/AP, accurate, manuverable, and fast. Probably the best grindable T9 BB for me. Edit: Two main weaknesses - torp and armor. Don't fight anything that overmatch 32mm (e.g. Yamato, Satsuma). They pen the whole ship.
I'm still on Hawke and I am still struggling but I started playing more like a cruiser and have had better survival rates. It's possible I will get to the Duncan and then just stop. I am extremely dissatisfied with superships, cvs, and subs at t9-10-11. Right now my only real chance to play t10 is CBs. If they add subs to CBs I am pretty sure I am done with the game.
I loved the Rooke and the Hawke! I had a lot of crushing Games in this Ships. But with my Duncan im really struggling. Im in the same opinion like that what you say, it feels great to play and the dispersion looks always perfectly, but what comes around is not quite enough. Is it maybe because of short fuse AP? It feels like i cant really Citadel people in some situations. Im ok with the armor an the Turret positioning, but the constancy is my biggest issue. (I'm from Germany, sorry for any spelling mistakes) PS: I love your Content
The Duncan is good for getting you in the right mindset for playing the Vincent, but otherwise not much else. It was the ship in the line i had the most problems with (though getting lucky with the bundles letting me skip right to it might have had a hand in that too, idk) and it felt like the 10 was a massive improvement over the 9 despite the only real change being some more HP and bigger guns. It's weird.
I think you are probably underestimating how big of a difference the waterline citadel in St. Vincent compared to the massive above water citadel in the Duncan. That was by far the most noticeable thing for me. I was no longer eating citadels for days once I got to the Vincent. The bigger guns help a bit, but I didn't really have issues punishing opponents in the Duncan tbh. The 419mm guns weren't too bad. The other difference that I noticed immediately between the Duncan and the St. Vincent is that the St. Vincent is a fire starting machine. It has a 63% chance of starting a fire compared to the 47% on the Duncan. It is not uncommon for me to light 2-3 fires per salvo.
Agree. I grinded Duncan without range mod and hull upgrades to save credits and got 110k avg. damage, which is 15k higher than my second highest T9 avg damage ship. Even had multiple 200k games which is extremely rare for me. Superships are not really a big issue unlike for many other T9s. Of course i also had rare games where i was just run over and killed early game by supership AP nuking me from the rear when i tried to run away. Always a bit of gamble with the positioning, but when it payed off, which was often the case, the dmg output and game impact was brutal. Imo Duncan and Hawke are a bit OP for their tiers. I need more games with the St. Vincent for a reasonable opinion, but so far it is great as well. The only downside of Duncan (and St. Vincent) is how ugly they are.
Agree. Loved every second of my Duncan grind. Hawke is great, but having that superheal just allows for so much HE tanking. Better conceal than St Vincent as well. Played 20 games on the Duncan and about 5 on the T10 and honestly I prefer the T9 as of writing this comment. May change tho as I get used to the T10. Edit: also forgot to say, HE shouldn't be ignored on the Duncan imo. I find myself abusing the Gun Feeder change and basically alternating between HE and AP every Salvo. That may be Potato's mistake probably
Agreed, tho I like my vincent more than duncan gameplay wise, I really enjoyed my time in duncan. Duncan’s design is also nicer imo, I like the look of St Vincent, but duncan looks more modernized with how its super structure looks, as it should seeing as the G3, duncan, was almost build.
I just got the Duncan yesterday and is the mistake I'm making that I'm trying to use all guns when I shouldn't? Of course it might be WG RNG, it seems to fluctuate daily between blessed and cursed
So the main problem in T9 is its massive citadel. the T10 has a waterline citadel and so its tanky AF. Also the T10 has 63% firechance so any Battleship will think twice before pushing to you also the hard hitting AP with 16K alpha will blap cruisers with battlecruiser dispersion. St. Vincent is currently my favourite ship for farming High Cliber, Confederate, Dreadnought, Arsonist and Witherer with consistent 200k+ games
What is that HUD in the bottom left corner? Is, is that showing the orientation of your ship to the enemy ship? Well that certainly takes out some guess work! Where can I get that set up? Please?
I had a good experience in the Duncan, it was like I ended on top of the charts or near the bottom. But overal a liked it. Using AP nearly all the time.
I actually quite liked Duncan - only played 13 games to get to St Vincent though (Free XP stock modules, blue boosters for the actual grind), so small sample size. But I did manage a 69% WR and 2 Krakens with it. EDIT: do stay on the grind though, PQ - the St. Vincent resolves all the issues with the rest of the line. Gud bote.
I love the Duncan. You are right in playing the flank, you'd get blapped if you play mid. If the enemy pushes the flank you can use speed boost and your conceal to get out of poor situations. Should have stuck with AP on the Johann. You took loads of unnecessary damage.
No Free XP for me on this ship. So much fun with Brisk and good conceal. Flanking ships and Dev striking them then angling and going dark. St. Vincent definitely feels better though. Most noticeable differences are definitely the below water Citadel and the insane fire chance on the HE for the St. Vincent (63% compared to 47%), it is not uncommon for me to light 2-3 fires per salvo in the vincent.
I think Duncan is a G3 - one of the ships the UK laid down just before the Washington Naval treaty but then got stopped. They would have been amazing ships.
T9 is that weird area where they're ok or bad and not much else. Especially some of those T9 where there's a huge power gap between the 9 and 10 like the Buffalo and Des Moines
I found the exact opposite as PQ here: Rooke and Hawke trolled me with their guns way more than Duncan did. Duncan felt way better, as it didn't get crushed as hard by other battleships; its torpedo angles are actually practical; and the large calibre of the guns meant they abused cruisers in a way that Rooke and Hawke didn't. Ultimately I found them all to be feast-or-famine and a bit too squishy to save thrown games, so I ended up with a negative winrate in all of them - although small sample size because I rushed through the whole line really fast - pretty sure that average will go up if I ever spend more time in them. Which is unlikely because T11 makes the game miserable, and turns me off every time I think about queueing.
I don't know, but I enjoyed Duncan. Yes, there were defeats, but there were also some great games. This year, I think the Tier IX tech tree that I think is an unfortunate speedbump (in my experience) is the Sejong.
Personally with the super heals I use furious, and repair party readiness or superheavy AP. Drop fire prevention and basics of survivability. Super heals let's you play with you HP burn time to get fast reload and fast cooldowns on the heals. I usually don't pop dc unless I flood or have 4 fire.
It is kind of interesting, my experience for Duncan and Hawke are completely reversed compare to yours. I am doing so much better in T9, and in T8 I was suffering.
@@theproceedings4050 I was slapped by a izumo for almost 40k through the nose in Hawke. I mean it is an Izumo, but 40k in one shot? I just don't like BB that can't tank at all, even Slava can tank a bit.
I really enjoyed the grinding of both Hawke and Duncan. I only used the free XP to upgrade them because stock sucked. I actually played the Hawke passed the XP needed for the Duncan.
i use the duncans speed to push in on the flanks from the start. in my first game in it i have taken out the CV in the first 2 minutes and had over 200K damage. if i stay back this ship feels kind of meh. pushing from the start is the way to go but if your team dos not follow you and stays behind you are screwed. so for me its a all in ship with high risk, high rewards if it works or a fast death.
I had the opposite experience. Hawke was truly miserable for me while Duncan is proving a very enjoyable grind. Guess in the end some of it is down to RNG, I myself haven't seen those great guns on the Hawke. I've seen the flattest of cruiser broadsides go unpunished more than once.
Can confirm this. The Duncan is the low point of this line, even worse then Renown in my opinion. St Vincent isn't getting that much better tho. This Hull design is just straight up bad. The gun accuracy is also not as good as back on Hawk. The only thing you gain is that 30mm overmatch, while loosing out on other aspects like being able to tank, because the hull is just that bad. Why play St Vincent if you can play Thunderer which does everything Vincent doesn't?
Duncan can't overmatch 30mm. You need 430mm or larger calibre guns to do that. Why play Vincent? 40mm deck, superheal, torps, viable secondaries. Done.

The 40mm deck is handy at range, but only at range. Now add the factor that this ship isn't all that consistent with her guns and you just sit back being useless. If you want a british BB that can sit at a greater range and still hit stuff, Thunderer is the way to go. The Torpedos are only viable in close range, which this ships can't do. You just overmatch its 25mm bow and kill it before it's getting to close. Ever seem what a good Ohio salvo or (god forbit) Satsuma salvo does to this thing at closer ranges? The heal is the only thing keeping this MASSIVE ship and its utter trash armor, anywhere else but the deck, alive. Without the heal up it litteraly can not tank. Secondaries? This is a joke right? Why would you play her for that? They aren't even good. No range, no better accuracy and their placement means you can't make use of them while pushing, only while kiting. But if you kite, your main guns and torpedoes are out of the fight. Atleast if you don't want to show too much broadside. Go play Schlieffen if you want torps and secondaries. To conclude: You have to play her in permanently shifting roles and positions to have success. But why bother with this if you can just play a better ship?
Seems like a mixed bag on Hawke or Duncan as the more enjoyable of the two to grind through. For me, it was actually Duncan I was enjoying more, and did better in.
Duncan was tough to grind through, Not near as bad as the Monarch, but still not very fun. I did use a bit of FreeXP to get to the St. Vincent after slogging through about half a dozen matches in the Duncan.
grinding thru 8 at the moment and the Hawke is fuckin hard work ..........., rooke was a breeze , had alot of MASSIVE devstrikes with it , i had NONE with the Hawke
I wonder if the range mod is a better choice over the reload mod in the last slot. With the meta at high tiers so ranged and campy and these BC's not really armoured well, I believe staying at range is the best option.
Grinding the Seattle right now, and Duncan was next on my list. I don't think either ship is going to help me like Tier 9... Feels like the worst tier in the game right now.

In the second game you're locked onto the Marl but aiming for the Neptune and still get the devstrike. How your shots didnt just go nowhere near either ship is beyond me
You can lock on to a ship and fire at another. All it does is decrease your dispersion by having an enemy ship locked on. For example, if you are blind firing a ship in smoke you cannot see, it is better to lock on to a nearby enemy before aiming and blind firing.
In my opinion T9s stack up better against Superships than T8s do against T9s. Let me explain here, at T9 you have all 6 upgrade slots, and in the case of most T9s you have comparable utility or DPM to the T10 counterpart. T8s only get 5 upgrade slots, so no reload mod, no range mod, and tend to have far lower stats than the T9s that come after them.(With a few exceptions, but exceptions happen at every tier) Suppose the best way I can put it, is I'd rather play Neptune against Edgar, than play Edinburgh against Neptune. It's the same as I'd rather play Neptune against Edgar than Fiji against Neptune, as Fiji doesn't even get the 5th upgrade slot. T9s at least don't have an upgrade deficit against Superships, aside from not having a gimmick a T9 has no major drawback compared to a Supership. Now there are exceptions, Ibuki is hot garbage for example. Alsace is terrible. I'm sure there are others but those are the only two T9s I can really think of that I wouldn't want to use against Superships, but I wouldn't want to use ether of those against T8s ether. Edit: Since when is 406mm guns small? Good lord Potato there is still no cruiser bow you can't overmatch shouldn't that be good enough? Do you really need to overmatch what little extra armor they have as well? Honestly the amount of overmatch against Cruisers has gotten a bit out of hand and I personally feel we are getting to the point where ether armor needs a rework so cruisers have 31mm of plating or overmatch needs removed.
1 good game doesnt equal the ship is good. Hell even 10 good games doesn't mean the ship is good. I'm legit averaging 200k dmg in 10 games in the GK and I can say Montana is the better T10 BB.
The whole match making setup is made to entice people to spend money skipping ships.. make life at tier 8/9 so frustrating that you want to spend money

I dunno man, I felt Duncan was a ton of fun and a huge upgrade vs Hawke. Citadels left and right with this thing, then going undetected. no FXP needed

Duncan was so squish to play through. 16.5s are nice but the hull is so fragile. Especially when you have 5 superships per side >:(

Tier IX is hard work at the moment, plus quite a few lines have some weak Tier IXs, on the other hand there are some great Tier IX bbs.

Duncan felt way better, as it didn't get crushed as hard by other battleships; its torpedo angles are actually practical; and the large calibre of the guns meant they abused cruisers in a way that Rooke and Hawke didn't.
Ultimately I found them all to be feast-or-famine and a bit too squishy to save thrown games, so I ended up with a negative winrate in all of them - although small sample size because I rushed through the whole line really fast - pretty sure that average will go up if I ever spend more time in them.
Which is unlikely because T11 makes the game miserable, and turns me off every time I think about queueing.

I do agree with you, I found Duncan a tad painful to play. Shells just felt lackluster.
I don't know, but I enjoyed Duncan. Yes, there were defeats, but there were also some great games. This year, I think the Tier IX tech tree that I think is an unfortunate speedbump (in my experience) is the Sejong.
Personally with the super heals I use furious, and repair party readiness or superheavy AP. Drop fire prevention and basics of survivability. Super heals let's you play with you HP burn time to get fast reload and fast cooldowns on the heals. I usually don't pop dc unless I flood or have 4 fire.
It is kind of interesting, my experience for Duncan and Hawke are completely reversed compare to yours. I am doing so much better in T9, and in T8 I was suffering.

@@theproceedings4050 I was slapped by a izumo for almost 40k through the nose in Hawke. I mean it is an Izumo, but 40k in one shot? I just don't like BB that can't tank at all, even Slava can tank a bit.
Same. I thought the 406 on the Hawke overpenned way too often. The 419s on the Duncan seem more consistent for some reason.

I really enjoyed the grinding of both Hawke and Duncan. I only used the free XP to upgrade them because stock sucked. I actually played the Hawke passed the XP needed for the Duncan.
I'm with ya. Only ship in the line I didn't keep.
i use the duncans speed to push in on the flanks from the start. in my first game in it i have taken out the CV in the first 2 minutes and had over 200K damage. if i stay back this ship feels kind of meh. pushing from the start is the way to go but if your team dos not follow you and stays behind you are screwed. so for me its a all in ship with high risk, high rewards if it works or a fast death.
For me the Duncan has been an excellent ship and it felt way better than the T7 and somewhat better than the T8, it was really enjoying playing it
I really enjoyed playing the Duncan but struggled with the Hawke so my experience was a bit different to yours PQ
I had the opposite experience. Hawke was truly miserable for me while Duncan is proving a very enjoyable grind. Guess in the end some of it is down to RNG, I myself haven't seen those great guns on the Hawke. I've seen the flattest of cruiser broadsides go unpunished more than once.
Can confirm this. The Duncan is the low point of this line, even worse then Renown in my opinion.
St Vincent isn't getting that much better tho. This Hull design is just straight up bad. The gun accuracy is also not as good as back on Hawk. The only thing you gain is that 30mm overmatch, while loosing out on other aspects like being able to tank, because the hull is just that bad.
Why play St Vincent if you can play Thunderer which does everything Vincent doesn't?
Duncan can't overmatch 30mm. You need 430mm or larger calibre guns to do that.
Why play Vincent? 40mm deck, superheal, torps, viable secondaries. Done.
It's a different play style, but I think you're missing the power of Vince, which is why you saw so many of them in KOTS, IMHO.
Except Vincent is a better ship compare to Thunderer?

I was talking about St Vincent with the ability to overmatch 30mm, I am not stupid, pls read more carefully. (Spaced it out so it reads a bit cleared for you maybe.)
The 40mm deck is handy at range, but only at range. Now add the factor that this ship isn't all that consistent with her guns and you just sit back being useless. If you want a british BB that can sit at a greater range and still hit stuff, Thunderer is the way to go.
The Torpedos are only viable in close range, which this ships can't do. You just overmatch its 25mm bow and kill it before it's getting to close. Ever seem what a good Ohio salvo or (god forbit) Satsuma salvo does to this thing at closer ranges?
The heal is the only thing keeping this MASSIVE ship and its utter trash armor, anywhere else but the deck, alive. Without the heal up it litteraly can not tank.
Secondaries? This is a joke right? Why would you play her for that? They aren't even good. No range, no better accuracy and their placement means you can't make use of them while pushing, only while kiting. But if you kite, your main guns and torpedoes are out of the fight. Atleast if you don't want to show too much broadside.
Go play Schlieffen if you want torps and secondaries.
To conclude: You have to play her in permanently shifting roles and positions to have success. But why bother with this if you can just play a better ship?

Found Duncan pretty nice. Did it in 8 games, 70% WR and 1800 PR.
Seems like a mixed bag on Hawke or Duncan as the more enjoyable of the two to grind through. For me, it was actually Duncan I was enjoying more, and did better in.

Duncan was tough to grind through, Not near as bad as the Monarch, but still not very fun. I did use a bit of FreeXP to get to the St. Vincent after slogging through about half a dozen matches in the Duncan.

grinding thru 8 at the moment and the Hawke is fuckin hard work ..........., rooke was a breeze , had alot of MASSIVE devstrikes with it , i had NONE with the Hawke
I wonder if the range mod is a better choice over the reload mod in the last slot. With the meta at high tiers so ranged and campy and these BC's not really armoured well, I believe staying at range is the best option.
What's weird is I struggled in Hawke, Duncan feels better to me.
I'm with you, I started at the renown and the Duncan doesn't feel bad, just meh and underwhelming.
Grinding the Seattle right now, and Duncan was next on my list. I don't think either ship is going to help me like Tier 9... Feels like the worst tier in the game right now.
For me the hawke was just pure pain to grind through? Duncan seemed wayyyyy more tanky compared to hawke

In the second game you're locked onto the Marl but aiming for the Neptune and still get the devstrike. How your shots didnt just go nowhere near either ship is beyond me
You can lock on to a ship and fire at another. All it does is decrease your dispersion by having an enemy ship locked on. For example, if you are blind firing a ship in smoke you cannot see, it is better to lock on to a nearby enemy before aiming and blind firing.

Duncan has 419 mm guns and not 406 mm.
In my opinion T9s stack up better against Superships than T8s do against T9s. Let me explain here, at T9 you have all 6 upgrade slots, and in the case of most T9s you have comparable utility or DPM to the T10 counterpart. T8s only get 5 upgrade slots, so no reload mod, no range mod, and tend to have far lower stats than the T9s that come after them.(With a few exceptions, but exceptions happen at every tier)
Suppose the best way I can put it, is I'd rather play Neptune against Edgar, than play Edinburgh against Neptune. It's the same as I'd rather play Neptune against Edgar than Fiji against Neptune, as Fiji doesn't even get the 5th upgrade slot. T9s at least don't have an upgrade deficit against Superships, aside from not having a gimmick a T9 has no major drawback compared to a Supership.
Now there are exceptions, Ibuki is hot garbage for example. Alsace is terrible. I'm sure there are others but those are the only two T9s I can really think of that I wouldn't want to use against Superships, but I wouldn't want to use ether of those against T8s ether.
Edit: Since when is 406mm guns small? Good lord Potato there is still no cruiser bow you can't overmatch shouldn't that be good enough? Do you really need to overmatch what little extra armor they have as well? Honestly the amount of overmatch against Cruisers has gotten a bit out of hand and I personally feel we are getting to the point where ether armor needs a rework so cruisers have 31mm of plating or overmatch needs removed.
Only reason Im playing a lot of superships is because of those missions so I feel bad for any t9 I encounter =/

1 good game doesnt equal the ship is good. Hell even 10 good games doesn't mean the ship is good. I'm legit averaging 200k dmg in 10 games in the GK and I can say Montana is the better T10 BB.
The whole match making setup is made to entice people to spend money skipping ships.. make life at tier 8/9 so frustrating that you want to spend money
The guns are terrible. tier 8 and 9 they are just awful guns. I don't know how potato compares these to NC or Iowa at all.
Duncan was very weak and incredible challenging to play. Did not enjoy the experience
