I had a limited budget, since I have just came to US to study here, so decision has been made to save some cash and make everything myself. As always, when I'm feeling sad, I come back to this video and It never ceases to make me feel better. It's been almost 2 months without my AT180 due to rod knock, the mechanic will get it ready soon. But for now? I'm just gonna visit this at least a few times a week.

I just want to thank you for showing me the strut on the celica is just that solenoid and not the whole unit. For the whole time I’ve owned my car I thought that the part was wrong but I’m clearly in the wrong going to change them tomorrow

Thank you for your pleasing comment! The thing is as my first car I got my dad's old russian VAZ2109 which proned to break every 1000km. So everytime I had too google what is causing this or that and that's how I got any idea about how everything works under the hood and so on. After that I bought my own - Toyota Corona '94. It has basically the same engine as this Celica -3sfe. So I was not afraid to buy this car here as I know the engine and how to maintain it. Basically it's not hard to do what I have done - if you need to take something off - look at how its connected, disconnect and put the bolts in their holes again to not to loose them. Easy as that :) When you work on your celica - check the timing belt (remove the plastic cover on the left), mine was brand new so that was a relief, because it's a lot of work to replace it and if you will - change all the seals there - there are about 2 of them there plus 2 on the oil pump. Plus I have recently replaced the front and rear engine mounts on celica - look at them too, if they are worn out your car shakes mush more than it should with engine running. The front one is easy but in order to replace rear one you'll have take off the crossbeam - 6 super tightend bolts... just put the long pipe on the wrench and it will be easy) it didnt take me long. Thanks. The side mirrors? yes, just pull it out. It's kind of scary as it requires some force but it never broke on me, so I guess that's how it should be done...

Hey man, i have the GTi version and have the same sunroff problem. Was it easy to remove it, i tried removing it earlier but didnt quite seem to do it right. Any Tipps?
Hey! Yeah, it wasn't easy. After taking out all the nuts you will need to break the sealant all around with something thing and sharp. Could be a screwdriver or some kind of knife. This sealant holds it pretty well. After that you will have to slide the whole thing forward and then it will be able to go down. (Because it's kinda tucked in in the rear)
@@NickyChicks that might be the answer to my question. I was wondering why it wasnt moving after all the screws were off. I did notice the seal but didnt want to tamper with it. Thanks for answering!
Howd you paint it, what kinda paint/primer/clear coat did you use? And how much did it cost? How well has it held up?
Well, when I was doing all of that I had no money to do it right. I also didn't have any compressor and the covered place like a paint booth or any thing. So I knew it was pointless to try to make it glossy and shiny - all my mistakes etc would be too obvious. So I just bought matte paint in spray cans (Montana gold) (around 15 cans approx. 10-15 bucks each) plus the spray caps for those (so that the paint wouldn't make the lines but evenly covered the area). It lasted 2 years no problem (if everything sanded with 800 grid sandpaper and all the bare metal spots and filler covered with primer (also cans)). Since I was parking it daily under the full sun (in Mississippi) in two years on the roof and hood paint began to... i am not sure how to describe it, paint formed like a barely seen cracks, however it was not cracking.. like an ornament, that could be seen only when looked closely. But still even though my methods were barbaric, I was pretty happy with how it turned out! all in all I spend on painting around $400 with all the paint, primer, sandpaper, acetone (to degrease), towels, tape and plastic cover.
@@NickyChicks Awesome! Im 16 and I found a 92 celica gts near me for only 100$ because it idles funny. It needs a repaint desperately. And I have exactly 1200$ to fix it all up, the same budget as yours! So after filling, priming, and sanding, you just matte spray painted it all? If I put semi gloss clear coat (so its no TOO shiny) would it make it more permanent? Mine is red and I would like to give it a paint job similar to yours. I get just got my license and I want to make it pretty and reliable enough for road tripping it across the northwest states. Your video is a great inspiration! I'm thinking about making something similar once I get to work on my celica.
@@logoed I am happy to find another fan of these amazing cars! $100 is a steal! Poor idling often is fixed my cleaning the choker and idling valve. Also check the throttle position sensor, and oxygen sensor. Could be other sensors like the temperature one though.. anyway it's going to be a great experience for you!! Clear coat obviously will make the paint job stay longer, but if you plan to put the clear coat, there's no reason to use matte paint. Buy any paint you like (but check if it's compatible with clear coat) And while painting ALWAYS do really thing layers. Never try to cover in 1-2 layers. that's most common mistake. The first layer is especially thin but with just 3-5 minutes pause till the second. After that, pauses should be longer depending on the temperature and the paint (reducer). Good luck!!✌️
@@NickyChicks Thanks man! What primer did you use? Ive been doing a ton of research and everything I hear is different about what kind of paints and primers and clear coats to use. I only want to clear coat it so itll last as long as possible. Ive been doing research on montana gold and ive heard its fantastic for all sorts of things. Do you know if montana gold would be compatible with any clear coat? I was thinking the kind of paint you got and semi gloss clear would be what im looking for. Full gloss would make any imperfections super noticeable, and my first car is my matte black 1986 toyota mr2, its a real pain to keep clean bc the previous owner did full matte black with no clear coat. So I would like Matte but with a little shine in there.
TLDR: What primer should I look into? Would the paint you got work with a protective clear coat? If so, does montana make protective clear coat? Sorry for all the questions I just want to make sure my paint looks sub par and lasts a semi long time.
@@logoed I am sorry, but I am no professional in all that. I also had to do some research on internet what works with what but I already forgot.. For that project I used just regular the most common gray primer for cars (Rust-oleum as far as I remember). If you really care that much I would just take a small part ( like a headlight cover) and try to paint it like you want and see how it looks 😉
