Fantastic player, all the hater comments are complete nonsense. Every team wants a Courtney Lawes in the side. Take the ball to the line at your own risk when big Courtney is playing.
Awesome player. Smashes the 9s and 10s when his team needs it, but also barely misses any other tackles, is now a great ball carrier, amazing in the lineout and actually shows great hands sometimes. Has to go on the Lions tour.
Adam Challis lol 90% of these tackles end up with the passer getting the ball away anyway & all Lawes has succeeded in doing is leaving a massive dogleg in the line. Criminal that he's in the lions squad ahead of Launch & Johnny Gray.
90% is a bit much, and on several occasions the passer or the person they've attempted to offload to has spilt the ball, giving England possession, so what's the problem here? Lawes has massively upped his game this year, he carries hard, is a rock in defence and plays the setpiece very well. I'm upset that Launch didn't get to go with the Lions but Lawes is a good enough player to be there in his own right. Gray has good reason to feel aggrieved as well but if anyone was going to be dropped from the touring locks imo it should be AWJ as he had a bit of a weak 6N, and I think he's largely in to fill a leadership role.
Lawes is amazing and fully deserves to go on tour. But about the lions tour comments, looking back at the first few games I have no idea why launchbury wasn't picked. I may be biased but Itoje, Kruis, Lawes and launchbury are all 'worldclass'. I understand why AWJ got picked (leadership) however Henderson is a shadow compared to Launchbury.
Everyone hating on Courtney Lawes for tackling 9s and 10s, you try and tackle Owen Farrell or Toby flood and see who comes out on top. And for the ones saying his tackles are always late, if he's completely committed to a tackle there's nothing wrong with him going for the tackle if the player has only just passed the ball, it puts pressure on the man passing.
I thought it was impressive that all of those were completely legal. I couldn't see a problem with any of them - if you are committed to the tackle then it doesn't matter if the ball went a split second before. Wrapped his arms well too.
He is the perfect player to have simply on the field. He increases the chance of a mistake from a 10 exponentially, many of these hits don’t necessarily seem consequential as the ball has already been released towards another player, but after those hits, not only will that player be feeling it for the next few days, for the rest of the game they are going to want to get that ball away as quickly as possible, increasing mistake chances
This is mainly demonstrations of what is called 'being already committed to the tackle' - or with a meticulous referee late, and a penalty. The Lawes of the land v the Laws of the game. Keep it up Courtney and the rest of the big hitters, and let us hope that Jerome Garces is fair and balanced.
The bloke is world class. He's not just a bosh merchant, he's a brilliant line out operator, he's added a carrying game to his arsenal and he's got great hands. Top, top bloke and player. To all the haters, he'd walk into any, ANY side in the world including the one you support...
He is nearly always in the top 5 tackle count. And he’s a back row/second row player so smashing 9’s and 10’s to debilitate opposition back line and game plan is literally his job.
Don't get why people criticise the fact that he mainly goes after half-backs. You want someone like him who they're gonna be scared of, it'll mean that they get panicked every time they touch the ball and end up making mistakes.
Perfect timing - he is always committed to the tackle when the ball is still in hand. He cant stop flying through the air once he's jumped for the guy. Slow motion makes everything look worse but his timing literally couldn't be better. That also makes lots of the passes perfect when the player gets it away, it's a fraction of a second before he hits. If you're up for taking the damage, those passes are perfect examples of taking the ball to the line haha.
A most excellent summary of his skills and the fear he engenders in the opposition back line. None of the hits were were considered illegal - and if you watch/rewatch the hit at full speed, then none of them are... In slo-mo all of them look horrific and illegal, but that is the "skill" of the replay... (as shown to referees and TMOs...) My own son plays 9, and if he can't live with that pressure then he shouldn't hope for an international career.... If the 9 (or 10) has passed the ball (prior to the hit) then he has done his job in creating space and taking a defender out of the game, if he can't cope with that he needs to reassess his choices - Courteneys job is to "encourage" them to decide not to attempt it a second, third or fourth time in one match...
He wouldn't remain on the field with half of these under the new rules. But it is a great video. I still love that one when he snaps the Frenchman in half.
Everyone saying they are late, a) its in slowmo, b) If you pulled out of a tackle because the ball might not be there when you arrived, we would be playing netball.......
the reason half his tackles are late is because those ones a the most brutal looking, therefore end up on highlight reels. Also, his job in defence is too pressure the 10s, so he can't fuck around waiting for them, he has too commit, and the tens pass quickly as they're under pressure, don't want to get hit with the ball.
He committed himself to the tackle while the player still had the ball in his hands, therefore not late! And yes, you hit them hard to make them doubt, hesitate and to show them that you mean business! Sometimes players get injured, that's rugby!
people complaining about late hits have never played in their lives. it's the ball carriers choice to take it up to the line. he can pass early and he'll pull out of the tackle but take it to the line and you'll get smashed. it plays with the ball carriers mind as well "to take up to the line again or not". There's players that take it up to the line every single time, especially nrl players like JT. if the tackler relaxes then he's throwing a dummy and slicing through. He's out there to hit everything.
No shit, I clocked that from the first few tackles wait till arms are extending to pass then go’s... very few or no head on head... try it with the islanders of boks
dewi morris if you look back, once he’s fully committed to the tackle - the ball is still in the hands of the half backs... if a player is already fully committed to a tackle before the ball has left the hands of the player then there’s nothing wrong with it? This is rugby... if you don’t want to be smashed like that, don’t take the ball close to the gain line?? And with your “What’s the point?”, it’s a psychological battle, not just a physical battle - smashing someone like that puts their head into another space and they will make mistakes more often out of fear of being hit like that again!! You’ve clearly never played a game of rugby in your life, this sport isn’t for you - go watch cricket x
I'm 6'1, 40 year old of average build. If I high tackled my 11 year old nephew to the ground with his back turned. Would I be called beast or a coward?
Most are illegal shoulder charges. He's mastered hitting cleanly with his shoulder a split second before wrapping with the arms, a dirty tactic, intent is to injure.
They are certainly powerful tackles, that goes without saying, however they are generally after the ball has been passed successfully. Thereby hangs a different question…. Was it worth all of that effort? Yes I know it frightens the passer on further occasions in the game, which may bring about mistakes, but how can he stop the ball from being distributed in the first place?
He really smashing his national teammates
Fantastic player, all the hater comments are complete nonsense. Every team wants a Courtney Lawes in the side. Take the ball to the line at your own risk when big Courtney is playing.
awesome blindspot hits
Bokke! Yes please anytime. No where to be seen when playing us😅😅
Awesome player. Smashes the 9s and 10s when his team needs it, but also barely misses any other tackles, is now a great ball carrier, amazing in the lineout and actually shows great hands sometimes. Has to go on the Lions tour.
Adam Challis I used to just think he liked pick in small guys to make himself seem tough, but recently think he has been playing well
Adam Challis lol 90% of these tackles end up with the passer getting the ball away anyway & all Lawes has succeeded in doing is leaving a massive dogleg in the line. Criminal that he's in the lions squad ahead of Launch & Johnny Gray.
launchbury didn't get a sniff at the england team before kruis got injured and no way johnny gray is going to be as useful against the kiwi 9 & 10
90% is a bit much, and on several occasions the passer or the person they've attempted to offload to has spilt the ball, giving England possession, so what's the problem here? All the people saying he only hits half-backs clearly don't watch a game properly, he makes loads of hits just his biggest are on the half-backs
Call me Kaki Include the Basteraud tackle as he’s a half back, hardly little though!
@@simonrook5743 No one likes 9's and 10's anyway. Cocky bastards 😂
who saw his tackle on basteraud... no one would complain about that takle and basteraud was playing centre🤷♂️🤭
Look on Basteraud's face too...shocked grenouille
@@simonrook5743 he's a 8 now
Had my doubts, but he's earned world class status the hard way. Effort and hard work.

This guy is just a son of a bitch
People who complain about this have never played in the back row - its your job to smash the scrum/fly half. They know it, you know it
I thought it was impressive that all of those were completely legal. I couldn't see a problem with any of them - if you are committed to the tackle then it doesn't matter if the ball went a split second before. Wrapped his arms well too.
Absolutely right. I once held a tackle bag for Toby Flood in a local schools training drill. He ain’t little!!
Love the timing of the music to the hits. Great job!
He gets the job done good time, proper rugby style
People who say he tackles late and only tackles number 9s what about in the six nations 1 week ago when he smashed the number 8 from France 🇫🇷 🔥
NEON he's a good player, but like 90% of his tackles in this are so late
Not gonna lie. Best video on TH-cam
I love how he smashes French players because they had Chabal and now it's their turn
The "Evil Courtney Lawes" absolute inspiration! fantastic video wish you could update it he has added to his hitlist since :)
I know I'll never play national rugby but he makes me think twice about doing it as an after school thing

I wanna see NFL players train and condition to play rugby, that would be some wild shit to watch
This is mainly demonstrations of what is called 'being already committed to the tackle' - or with a meticulous referee late, and a penalty. The Lawes of the land v the Laws of the game. Keep it up Courtney and the rest of the big hitters, and let us hope that Jerome Garces is fair and balanced.
that one against France was one of the hardest hits I have ever seen!! it was against the number 10
I'm glad Courtney is on our team for sure. Never invite him anywhere though because he's always late!
The bloke is world class. He's not just a bosh merchant, he's a brilliant line out operator, he's added a carrying game to his arsenal and he's got great hands. Top, top bloke and player. To all the haters, he'd walk into any, ANY side in the world including the one you support...

I wouldn’t want to be in the way of him running full speed 😂😂
This is a perfect timing for late tackle
Then don't run away from the takles bra timing is key that's the ball carriers fault 😎
Nice video, good music too.
The music was absolutely awful
Don't get why people criticise the fact that he mainly goes after half-backs. You want someone like him who they're gonna be scared of, it'll mean that they get panicked every time they touch the ball and end up making mistakes.
This dude absolutely murders other teams 9s and 10s

Most of his tackles are late but just in time for it not to be too late haha. Gets away with assault. Great player
This IS SICK

Courtney laws is a absolute leg end... number 1 on my team sheet without a doubt
Is everyone gonna ignore how high these tackles are
Does anybody know he name of the song and great vid, smashing 9s and 10s left right and centre 😂
He wouldn't remain on the field with half of these under the new rules. But it is a great video. I still love that one when he snaps the Frenchman in half.
James Lenney apart from the fact he does stay on the pitch
Is he always late to the tackle or just on this video?
Alejandro Tettamanzi He usually tackles as the player is making the pass which makes them spill the ball, resulting in a turnover.
Only in your mind mate.
People calling them all "late" hits when literally every single one is reviewed by the TMO and professionals who say otherwise...
This guy is a late tackle specialist- theres nothing admirable about that
Everyone complaining about him if he played for the rugby team you support you would not be moaning
I guarantee after getting a Courtney Lawes Special, none of these 9s or 10s hold the ball long when they see him line them up next time.
My favourite English Rugby player who flattens opposing players like pancakes 👌
A montage of blind siding 10s who are half his size.....so impressive....
That's his job.
I think the hit on Charlie Hodgson was the only one that wasn't late! Still a beast
My older brother was in the same year as him at a different school and he told me when they played he broke two kids ribs
Yea I don't miss lining up against him at NSB or ONs as devastating then as he is now
Courtney laws great player
The terror of every fly half ever. Also, does he have something against Farrell?
assassin tackler👊👌...rugby fan
Everyone saying they are late, a) its in slowmo, b) If you pulled out of a tackle because the ball might not be there when you arrived, we would be playing netball.......
when he smashed flood at twickenam in the final and Cockerall kicked off and wayne barnes told him to go back to his seat XD
Late tackles constantly. But he must scare the life out of oppsite backs. His tackles are brutal
the reason half his tackles are late is because those ones a the most brutal looking, therefore end up on highlight reels. Also, his job in defence is too pressure the 10s, so he can't fuck around waiting for them, he has too commit, and the tens pass quickly as they're under pressure, don't want to get hit with the ball.
nothing better than watching him fold Farrell.
Late tackle expert !
None of those tackles were late! He was committed to each tackle when the player passed the ball.
Rippedflesh 69 without the ball. Just to injuried the player or force him to not participate in to the next movement.
He committed himself to the tackle while the player still had the ball in his hands, therefore not late! And yes, you hit them hard to make them doubt, hesitate and to show them that you mean business! Sometimes players get injured, that's rugby!
Rippedflesh 69 for sure, but he does not respect fair play !
If youve played you know theyre late.
All late bumps on smaller backs, great compilation of "Hits"
Mike Havard go try it then
Mike Harvard - like to see you go head to head with Courtney, seeing as you’re the keyboard warrior champion of the world

il sub for the music =P
Better late than never?
As a forward, you always wanted a kick like the one at 01:30. Line them up and hit them.
I quite like Courtney lawes but too many of these were late
Monster of a man
I love how coutny smashes people
Honteux que de la lacheté dans ces plaquages devastateur innattendus et souvent sans ballons
the more i watch the later some of them get
No shit, I clocked that from the first few tackles wait till arms are extending to pass then go’s... very few or no head on head... try it with the islanders of boks
The king of cheap late tackles
They don't see him coming do they?
Look like 48 Welshman and/or football supporters have watched this video!
Courtney 'late' lawes
He's a beast...but at least half of these are late and cynical tackles.
RIP all 10s that play against lawes
How many late tackles
Where was he against Bokke?
Courtney Lawes a flyhalfs worst nightmare
I’d say about in about 5 percent of these tackles the player actually has the ball
works well in terrifying ppl tho
Yes, and? The refs were quite happy with it but you weren't? Oh fucking boo hoo.
Powderpuff of a player
Ahhh yes the destroyer of 9s and 10s..
nearly every one of those hits was late!! its great smashing guys but if the ball has already gone, what's the point?
dewi morris if you look back, once he’s fully committed to the tackle - the ball is still in the hands of the half backs... if a player is already fully committed to a tackle before the ball has left the hands of the player then there’s nothing wrong with it? Where would you be playing full contact rugby with an 11 year old. Get real.
It’s not his fault some professional players are half his size, should he leave them alone? Totally pointless argument
Most are illegal shoulder charges. He's mastered hitting cleanly with his shoulder a split second before wrapping with the arms, a dirty tactic, intent is to injure.
Whats the Song at the beginning of the Video?
the fly half destroyer
Wow
They are certainly powerful tackles, that goes without saying, however they are generally after the ball has been passed successfully. Thereby hangs a different question…. Was it worth all of that effort?
Yes I know it frightens the passer on further occasions in the game, which may bring about mistakes, but how can he stop the ball from being distributed in the first place?
When he hits them they've already passed the ball
God my rugby union season starts soon and I'm a prop gotta hit better and harder than this guy respect bro
He only puts late shots on
what a nightmare playing 10 against him
love how he always gets late hits
Remember him saying he'd smash Bakkies and then Bakkies destroying him in that 42-6 loss at Twickenham lol.
Haha nobody could touch bakkies back in the day!
Well the slow mo makes the hits look pretty late
He doesn't do jack shit when England plays Ireland. Sean O'Brien and many others have murdered him.
The King of de later tackle...
just 3 tackles on mans with the ball
Lawes a World Cup finalist
Johnny Gray did you say? ☹️No Sir
Who cares if they're late tackles , he hit farell a few times...it's all good
I love Courtney Lawes, but you can't help noticing he hits the opponent after the poor guy has passed the ball in most of these clips.
He is a lock of course he is gonna tackle half backs it his job he is closest to them in the ruck
Music ?
My man hates half backs
All tackles are late.
Late hits on smaller playmakers. Hit a forward, then call it a big hit...hehe!
It would actually be possible to duck his tackles because he is so high and commited
Is that a dislocated shoulder at the end?
The Ref needs to keep an eye on Laws and his late hits otherwise he will just injure everyone.
