Interesting on how Frisk still isn’t completely accurate from the fan base tells. I had wondered if the pre-teens age gap was underestimated by the UT community
I've always been on the mind that regardless of what end of the "kid" range one puts them on, Frisk is almost definitely on the precocious side due to them, as you said, seemingly being implied as knowing things most kids wouldn't.
One thing: Kris is anywhere between 11 - 14, as their school is very clearly a middle school. Kris is taller than Frisk, so I’d assume they’d be between 7 - 10, which considering that’s around the age kids in my elementary school started trying to impress girls with expectations of lifetime effects, makes this idea even more likely. Also, by using Deltarune’s door height and assuming Kris of 5’0” that would make frisk 4’0” which is the average height for 7 - 10 year olds. Edit: I have changed my opinions, and I agree with replies saying Kris is in High School and is 14 - 16. 18 doesn’t make as much sense though because they are referred to as a teenager, but 14 - 16 makes sense. With this I’ll be a bit more lenient and say Frisk is between 10 - 12. I don’t think Frisk would be a teenager because unlike Kris nobody refers to them as anything other than kid.
Nah, Kris has to be closer to 16 - 18, IMO. Catti works in a restaurant, and most restaurants would never hire under the age of 16. Plus they all act like high schoolers and Toriel talks like Kris will be going to college soon rather than later in addition to Tem preparing for college. That's not really a middle school age thing, IMO. Frisk being 12 - 13 still works perfectly well given the series' mother influence and Frisk and Chara being proportionally very similar to the Mother protags who are preteens.
@@Dorked Edit: This comment is redundant because my new concept is in the original comment, but I will keep this one because I don’t want to make people feel like I’m covering up my mistakes. While that could be true, multiple things wouldn’t line up. Kris would be pretty short at 17, concidering I was 5’0” when I was barely 11, and I’ve only continued to grow since. We can also rule out that it’s detail over size accuracy, because everything is completely to scale when being measured using door heights. Kris also would probably be driving themself to school if they were over 16 since it’s a short drive with only a few turns and for some reason no stop signs.
@@grayanddevpdx Not necessarily. Toriel is an incredibly doting parent, and a lot of the other NPCs like Bratty and Catty shown just hanging around town without a car in sight. It's a small town. Besides that, there are no exact confirmed heights for Kris and co. For instance, I'm an adult and I'm only around 5'2'' - 5'3''. The video even goes into depth about why you can't necessarily discern 1:1 realistic overworld heights. Door heights aren't always the best estimate either because Asgore is HUGE, yet the doors in his house in Undertale are too small for him. :p I think it's best to treat overworld heights as rough estimates, especially when monsters make up the bulk of the cast and the Undertale intro shows Asgore as really large. Everything seems to paint the main class in Deltarune as high school aged and simply sharing a building with younger students due to it being a small town (this can happen). Plus, Catti working in a restaurant, Berdly doing multiple volunteer positions, and Temmie prepping for college all seem to paint them as high school-adjacent, IMO.
@@Dorked Maybe. The more you bring up, the more natural it feels. I guess I’m just getting mental whiplash because a lot of the characters act like middle schoolers or younger, but maybe it’s just Toby’s writing being really good at making it feel like it’s a different culture without having to make it feel unrecognizable from the players, who are mostly American and Japanese.
It's a really nice theory. I actually haven't seen a lot of videos about this topic so it's interesting to me. Keep up the great work and as always stay determined!
7:55 It's implied by Snowdrake's Heckle dialogue that Frisk has suffered through some stuff ("You tell the Snowdrake that no one will ever love them the way they are...."). The narrator might recognize this and decide to make these types of jokes, even if Frisk is younger than the assumption.
I’ve personally always hc Frisk as 10-11. And for Chara (controversial take) 16-17. Why so old? Because I think it’s more funny to imagine Chara was going through their edgy teen phase when they made their plan. Also the idea Chara being like this older narrator who’s direct because they just want to move on like a permanently done teen is fun. Asriel in my hc thinks that Frisk is Chara because he remembers their younger self more fondly and is hardcore coping.
I personally headcannon Frisk as 11, maybe 12, and this video really helps that. I've never given it much thought before but this is a really fun video
This is a very good theory. Some people think of Frisk as 5-8, but Pre-teen is very accurate. Frisk can Flirt perfectly, can Fight with powerful monsters, and can even brutally murder everyone, so does that make them a toddler? And if some people think that Frisk is still a toddler because most monsters underground call her 'Child' or 'Kid', that maaaay be because, oh, y'know, theY'RE LIKE WHAT 200 YEARS OLD?!?
@@ShabsUIDThing is that toddler wouldnt even have much idea of violence when we take that Frisk is around 8 years But closer to teen ages usually people are getting taste of violence,so for 11-14 years old Frisk actually killing someone is not that far from being possible And also considering how LV makes it easier to kill someone in cold blood, first few kills are accidental but then Frisk just begins to enjoy killing and all that stuff
frisk is sensing the EVIL AURA OF THE PIE or the narrator is lying and being funny( ex: frisk just doesn't want it but the narrator decideds to make fun of frisk for this)
Maybe a good idea is to compare berdly and noelle's toddler sprites in deltarune with frisk's? I think that in the same scene where these sprites appear, it is mentioned that it was a kindergarten contest, so we could assume that they were 5 - 6 years old at the time. Anyways, good video! I've always thought that Frisk was 8-9 years old, but it's just my headcanon, of course
The issue of the accuracy of sprite heights mentioned in the video poses itself with this idea. Without a reliable reason to believe those sprites to be size accurate, using them would likely lead to unreliable results.
4:44 I always saw this as Frisk thinking that they'll be too full by the time they finish eating it, not as a threat. A full pie being too much for Frisk _does_ imply a younger age group, however not as much as said pie being scary.
ooh, the editing hooked me in from the beginning, and the video only got better from there! you clearly put a lot of time and passion into researching and writing this. and with such a refreshingly logical take too. can't wait to see where this channel goes from here
Regardless if the certain things Frisk is interested at or not, it can be just Toby having fun with certain interactions within the game. Or the multiple interests and dislikes of Frisk is mainly due to the fact that Frisk is still supposed to be you. Not knowing what you would like or dislike, the multiple things Frisk likes or not is flexible enough to fit with what you would like
In my story, I chose to make them 8, mainly due to how little they seem to talk. If they had a bit more of a "personality", then I probably would have interpreted them as slightly older. Of course, the point about the characters sometimes using more mature themes around them is valid, and I don't have a satisfactory explanation for that. Perhaps the characters simply misjudged Frisk. And if anything, flirting with everyone so much is what I personally would expect from a mid-teen rather than a tween. So... eh, who knows.
Frisk actually talks quite a lot in the game. It is just that they do not use the classic textbox format when they do unlike other characters. They talk to monsters like Papyrus, Alphys or Undyne during the dating segments, they talk through the phone quite often, they also frequently choose to respond to characters on their own with no player input. When the latter happens, the characters usually paraphrase what Frisk has just said such as when Flowey says "Huh ? Why am i doing this ?" or Gerson says "Huh ? What if the child is a human... What ?" as ways to tell us that Frisk just asked these things to them. Besides, lots of the ACTs in game involve Frisk talking one way or another anyway such as taunting Undyne or cheering up Napstablook.
@@underlore3774 Indeed so. However, they still have that silent/shy feel about them, even if they ultimately do speak a lot. Like I mentioned, it's mainly their lack of charisma that I think is indicative of this. If I were to compare it with some AUs, the Frisk from Inverted Fate is how I would imagine a tween talk and act.
@@Tsskyx frisk managed to talk their way out of dozens of battles of monsters who wanted to kill humans for their entire life with considerable ease, frisk don't lack charisma, they actually have an insane good charisma.
@@girosvaldodeskate2214 Considering the synergy between them and the player, it must have taken them several tries before they discovered what makes each monster tick - because I know I had to, I definitely didn't figure out each encounter on the first try. @@Tsskyx if the narrator is even a character, then that character probabilly is the kid the other dead kid so i don't know how much that would help, and like, mechanically you will like, talk 5 phrases and you should already spared the monster, its not like you die in every fight

The point with the leaves is based not on certainty but on likelihood. It is possible for a grown man to play with leaves just as well as it is possible for a child younger than 10 to lose all interest in toys. These are just rarer occurrences. These details only take importance in comparison with each other. For instance, one of those two things is rarer before the age of 10 while the other gets rarer after early teens. Taken together, they make it appear that Frisk's relationship with playing specifically would be one which would fit a child between 10 and 14 the most. These points alone do not mean they have to be in that age range, they simply make it appear statistically a bit more likely for them to be.
This is cool, I'm glad someone's finally addressing this. I've never actually minded people seeing frisks age as being really young, probably because I thought they were like 4 for a while and it makes a cute idea. Unfortunately people use this 'agelessness' to make gross fan art and ships. I can get wanting to ship characters and stuff, its cute and fun, but for gods sake frisk is a child
Frisk's age is ambiguous and undefined, but a definite general range is provided as they're consistently repeatedly called a kid. There's no way anyone could realistically construe that into "well actually they could be 25"
@@Feu2032 Yeah, Sans is around 28 I believe. So, even if it implies that they waited until Frisk was at least 18, he would be between 40 and 47. Which is all kinds of messed up, especially if Sans knew Frisk before they were an adult.
Frisk is definitely not an teenager she is less then teen ager and the game makes Frisk's personality a pre teen and the monsters in the underground call frisk a child or kid for a reason frisk is at least 9 or 12 High-12 Low-9

1:23 It's not impossible that it's chara who read things for frisk, i've seen a comicdub with that. That explain too how frisk can understand what the froggits say.
I personally agree with the idea that Frisk is in their pre-teens, since I always imagined them being 12-13 years old. But that was honestly a personal bias since I was 13 when I first played Undertale, soooooo
Honestly anytime I see a young character in a game who’s age isn’t told and I can tell they are more of a child age a common age range I’ve given them is like- 8-13. It’s allows for development in the brain to be noted and understood yet also allows for some personal interpretation.
the average is too big, frisk is 7000 years old, like alphys says. Edit: The pie may be an exception, as it is one of the only disrepencies, meaning that frisk may have sensed the evil aura that the pie was holding and was thus intimidated. This would thus lower the age range.
or you can just like.. pay attention to toriel. i mean she literally calls frisk a "youth" in the start of a game - a youth is someone around the age of 9 - 12
At the end of the True Pacifist, right before the Asriel Dreemurr fight, when Undyne and Alphys kiss, Toriel says "Hey! Not in front of the Human!" So I always naturally assumed that he was a little kid.
I can personally see Frisk as anywhere from 8-13 years old, MAYBE 14 but I’d say that’s about the upper age limit for Frisk. IMO the above age range is the most realistic for Frisk.
I thought that frisk was probably around 12, but that makes me wonder how old Kris would be? They seem like they would be a bit older, maybe around 14. I mostly think Kris is older due to their height, which isn’t the most accurate way to determine age, but there’s also they way they act, as they seem a bit more mature. I hope you make more videos like this, they way explained everything made it easy to follow, which can be difficult sometimes, especially when talking about undertale.
@@Mysinginghuman that could also be accurate. It’s pretty hard to tell, but I think if we find out what kind of work they do in class in later chapters , we could have a better guess as to what Kris’s age is, along with their classmates
You mentioned the narrator a couples of times. It's worth mentioning that the narrator is actually Chara (as can be seen in the bug room) so her judgement may be skewed.
While the question of the identity of the narrator would easily be worth its own video eventually, it is not that relevant for this one. Some of the narrator's traits can be taken into account to some extent yes when considering how to judge its lines, but wether or not the narrator is Chara doesn't change much regarding how the way the narrator treats Frisk is used here.
Subscribed! I hope to see your channel grow! :) Well researched, well-written. The only thing I can give you as constructive criticism is the microphone quality. I don't think it's really bad at all, but that is the first thing that most people notice about a youtube video after the thumbnail and title. On youtube this can cause a snow-ball effect where a few people click off because they assume the content won't be of good quality, which in turn causes the algorithm to recommend it less. This can easily kill or sabotage smaller channels. (At least that's how it worked a few months ago. I think it makes sense, unfortunately.) Top-notch quality content, though!

I think it's best to treat overworld heights as rough estimates, especially when monsters make up the bulk of the cast and the Undertale intro shows Asgore as really large.
I've always thought Frisk was about 9-12, so this adds up!
Hey, this is really interesting! Honestly, I've never really thought about Frisk's age, I just assumed they were probably a little kid, lol
Good point.
Dont use *frisk kills powerful monsters* logic in game mechanics or physical game mechanics to scale Frisk it ain't accurate.
@@ShabsUIDThing is that toddler wouldnt even have much idea of violence when we take that Frisk is around 8 years
But closer to teen ages usually people are getting taste of violence,so for 11-14 years old Frisk actually killing someone is not that far from being possible
And also considering how LV makes it easier to kill someone in cold blood, first few kills are accidental but then Frisk just begins to enjoy killing and all that stuff
10:39 I looked at this frame, went to my kitchen, stood in front of my sink, and calculated they're probably in their late pre-teens to early teens
I'd be intimidated by a pie that looks like it's has meter in diameter
frisk is sensing the EVIL AURA OF THE PIE
or the narrator is lying and being funny( ex: frisk just doesn't want it but the narrator decideds to make fun of frisk for this)
@@zixvirzjghamn737 -2000 aura
Frisk looks older than them just about in a similar way to how Kris looks older than Frisk, so the theory still works with that
@@underlore3774 What about the toddler Noelle sprite she turns into for a second when she brings up her part? This one should be accurate
@@LittleDevilAkuma it's the same sprite as the one in the scene with berdly, only from the side
4:44 I always saw this as Frisk thinking that they'll be too full by the time they finish eating it, not as a threat. A full pie being too much for Frisk _does_ imply a younger age group, however not as much as said pie being scary.
Bro even at peak growth, people just don't eat a full ass pie, especially one the size of your head
ooh, the editing hooked me in from the beginning, and the video only got better from there! you clearly put a lot of time and passion into researching and writing this. and with such a refreshingly logical take too. can't wait to see where this channel goes from here
That was a really nicely researched, edited and commentated video! ^^
* cries in 4'10" adult*
Regardless if the certain things Frisk is interested at or not, it can be just Toby having fun with certain interactions within the game. Or the multiple interests and dislikes of Frisk is mainly due to the fact that Frisk is still supposed to be you. Not knowing what you would like or dislike, the multiple things Frisk likes or not is flexible enough to fit with what you would like
Aside from the poor quality microphone, this was a really well made video. Looking forward to more
Really nice and well researched video, look forward to seeing what else you put out!
This is so underrated
The editing is great and you keep the video intertaining for the whole time.
Got sent here by Dorked and I'm glad that I did! Great video
We can also speculate that, if the narrator talks more than just what we can see, they could have helped Frisk as well.
@@Tsskyx if the narrator is even a character, then that character probabilly is the kid the other dead kid so i don't know how much that would help, and like, mechanically you will like, talk 5 phrases and you should already spared the monster, its not like you die in every fight
I personally imagine Frisk as 6 - 10 years old child, developed beyond their age and learned flirting from their family.
Beforehand thought of Frisk to be about 9 years old.
Now I'm headcannoning Frisk's age to be 10!
nice video!
I always headcannoned Frisk as being in their pre-teens, so this not only... basically confirms my headcannon, but is also a really well made video.
I headcannoned Frisk falling in their atleast pre teens, and mid teenage at oldest. Mainly cause puberty makes people more independent, how is Frisk being independent? Climbing a mountain!
I was thinking about 10-12, so this lines up pretty well with it.
Imagine having the strongest monster, training for years, climb every mountain count grain of sand, then losing to this little kid
Finally some new gas to the Undertale TH-cam Community! Really like the video and points you made in it. For me personally Frisk was always between 10-12(or 13). I have a suggestion on a video you could make if you are pretending to continue this series. It's something I thought a while ago regarding how much Flowey "lived", I tried posting It on Reddit but It didn't got much attention. If you're interrested just reply and I'll send you the original post I made.😄
Thank you but i have plenty of video topics in stock already. I will still read your post if you send it, though !
@@underlore3774 It's ok! Keep the good work man. If you someday happen to use my post to a video feel free to do so! But if you do so please mention me, It would make me very happy :). (Tried to send the link but Yt keeps deleting... search my nickname on Reddit. It's the same as here)
Yeah, I agree they would be 10 at least, and 13 at most.
I like it , its intresting and different from all the other undertale videos floating around
Ok, I’m definitely liking and subbing. With all of your research you’ve definitely earned them
I always assumed Frisk was the same age as Ness (12/13) since Undertale was heavily inspired by earthbound.
Sympa comme vidéo ! C'est bien développé et bien réfléchi ! Merci pour tes recherches !
ah, another UT/DR youtuber! subscribed!! very well researched and i loove the editing. your voice is also really nice. i look forward to more!
Great video! Love all the research & well-used footage & infographics! Thanks for uploading!
Frisk is just the quiet kid on a whole new level
That's a very interesting theory. I now wonder how tall the rest of the characters are and how big the underground is.
4:53 I get it too. They used to absolutely TERRIFY me.
Idk if it's just nostalgia but the name Underlore reminds me of underlab which brings back alot of memories GOD IM OLD
Frisk is a timeless child who loves flirt
Okay, I'm pretty new to the undertale fandom. Thank you for making a proper video about undertale in 2022, I only joined this fandom around June time. Also, I think frisk is around the age of 12, but the age guesses of others are from the age of 4-14. (I don't get it either lol)
Finally, it's here! The video I've waiting for since I followed your tumblr account. I enjoyed your theories there and I'm exited for those to be made as videos! Take care your time making those videos.
Thank you very much ! Not all videos which i plan on posting here will be tumblr adaptations though. Some will be, but others will come out on TH-cam first.
Tumblr still exists?????
9:05 ... or floweys face just become bigger, he is something like amalgamates sooooo...
Frisk age is just: "kid"
I always assumed it was around eight to ten years old but after watching this video, I feel like it’s fifteen now.
Great video, was cool to watch even after seeing your blog about it
As they say:
We will watch your career with great interest.

Just a quick comment, I have this year seen a grown man playing in the leaves, so the leaves is an assumption that may be throwing off your guess.
It makes me so happy to see stuff like this in 2022
This is cool, I'm glad someone's finally addressing this.
There's no way anyone could realistically construe that into "well actually they could be 25"
@@uncroppedsoop yes, finally someone agrees
I think most of those imply Frisk to be grown up after the evnts of the game.
Doesn't make it any less gross, however
@@Feu2032 Yeah, Sans is around 28 I believe. So, even if it implies that they waited until Frisk was at least 18, he would be between 40 and 47. Which is all kinds of messed up, especially if Sans knew Frisk before they were an adult.
Frisk is definitely not an teenager she is less then teen ager and the game makes Frisk's personality a pre teen and the monsters in the underground call frisk a child or kid for a reason frisk is at least 9 or 12
High-12
Low-9
And here I honestly thought they were 7.
But seriously, this video is really well made, is seriously underrated, and deserves a sub on it's own.
Congrats, here you go!
(I'm talking about a sub)
…I thought Frisk was like 4
Bro posted one video and disappeared
What a chad
This channel is absolutely underrated, you hope you can get more subscribes
i love this video, i'm glad to see there is another up and coming undertale/deltarune youtuber ! your video editing was great, your video was well researched and your presentation was entertaining. overall, a brilliant start to this channel and i look forward to see what comes next. great theory!
This video is an absolute banger. If this doesn't get picked up and skyrockets you to the moon then they youtube algorithim is more cruel and unusual then we thought
"as alphys is familiar with anime, she should have a fairly good idea"
like i havent seen many animes
but thats probably one of the most innacurate sources for human age you can find
Hello!!!!!!!!! Watching the video!!!!! Question, what editing program did you use?
The editing of this video was done using Sony Vegas Pro 2018.
1:23 It's not impossible that it's chara who read things for frisk, i've seen a comicdub with that. That explain too how frisk can understand what the froggits say.
Tbh I’m putting my bets on frisk being late 12.
4:59 You gotta help me man! My pie is evil and it's gonna kill meeeeeeee!
This is so well made you deserve more subs
if i were a game dev, i would definitely comment on peoples theory’s saying “well, your right.”, “OK you may or may not be right.”, “Bozo take.”
And we are pretty sure that Chara was older. Very good video. I hope determinators comes back
I personally agree with the idea that Frisk is in their pre-teens, since I always imagined them being 12-13 years old.
Fun fact:Frisk was Flirt Toriel when in the Ruin and we made Frisk do that so anything Frisk do in game under we control can't say anything
Oh, idea!
Frisk is as old, as is necessary to play a video game!
the average is too big, frisk is 7000 years old, like alphys says.
Edit: The pie may be an exception, as it is one of the only disrepencies, meaning that frisk may have sensed the evil aura that the pie was holding and was thus intimidated. This would thus lower the age range.
Wow!! This is a very good video, I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into making this. You have inspired me to make undertale content lol
or you can just like.. pay attention to toriel. i mean she literally calls frisk a "youth" in the start of a game - a youth is someone around the age of 9 - 12
At the end of the True Pacifist, right before the Asriel Dreemurr fight, when Undyne and Alphys kiss, Toriel says "Hey! Not in front of the Human!" So I always naturally assumed that he was a little kid.
*they were
so in theory frisk is in the age brackets of 10-13 years old
great vid!! clear and concise, very epic
I can personally see Frisk as anywhere from 8-13 years old, MAYBE 14 but I’d say that’s about the upper age limit for Frisk. IMO the above age range is the most realistic for Frisk.
Frisk x Adult shippers HATE this one video!!
Really good theory mate, cant wait for the next theory :))
Excellent work! Well researched
I’ve always assumed that Kris is 15-17
@@Mysinginghuman that could also be accurate. It’s pretty hard to tell, but I think if we find out what kind of work they do in class in later chapters , we could have a better guess as to what Kris’s age is, along with their classmates
My personal headcanon is that if Frisk isn't a child, then they're a grown-up with dwarfism. lol
This is be a reason. That you dont look a human just by its tall
You mentioned the narrator a couples of times. It's worth mentioning that the narrator is actually Chara (as can be seen in the bug room) so her judgement may be skewed.
While the question of the identity of the narrator would easily be worth its own video eventually, it is not that relevant for this one. Some of the narrator's traits can be taken into account to some extent yes when considering how to judge its lines, but wether or not the narrator is Chara doesn't change much regarding how the way the narrator treats Frisk is used here.
frisk has always been somewhere near 11 to 12 to me honestly
Frisk’s proportions honestly make me think that frisk is 5 and I can’t shake that idea out of my head.
Subscribed! I hope to see your channel grow! :)
Well researched, well-written. I think it makes sense, unfortunately.)
Top-notch quality content, though!
Thank you. And yes, i am aware and i do plan on getting better audio quality in the future.
I think frisk is definely 12
