Q: Why the getaway? A: I have sailed them all (14, 16, 18,) and and have seriously considered getting the 16 instead of my getaway. I made the right choice with the getaway! If you are going to seriously race, then you want the 16. However there are enough getaways around now where you can race in a getaway class if you really want to. My opinion whe reasons why a getaway is best... #1 COMFORT! Sitting Comfortably on the wing seat at 18 miles per hour as you pass just about every other sailboat (except a 16, 18 or nacra) is priceless! . #2 Versatility! You can sit on a hull and comfortably lean against the wingseat, sit on the wing or trapeze while standing on the wing. There is so much room to move about that a16 feels cramped by comparison. 3 - Family friendly! You can take the whole family out at 1 time - 6 person capacity... Enjoy a mild and slow cruise or smash it up in the waves for a boatload of fun! Kids especially like being on the fore-tramp which causes them to get very wet with each wave and they absolutely love it. Try loading 6 on a 16 and it becomes a submarine. I'm not dissing the h16 because the h16 is a icon and is in a much faster, performance class. For family fun, taking out all your friends at once, comfort and considerable high speed........get the Getaway!
