- On this episode we are on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with Captain Ben Morris of Saltywaters Charters. The topic of this video is the improved Carolina Rig. Ben covers tons of information and generously offers tips and advice that can work for you, no matter where you fish. There's no wrong way to soak bait on the bottom, but the techniques covered during this trip are tested and proven. Hopefully you'll find some useful information that can make your next trip more successful.

appreciate the tip, will work it to work!
Great video! Thanks for the helpful tips and info!
Thanks Tanner
Good to know! I usually throw soft plastics but I will definitely be trying this out soon! Good stuff man point harbor, nc here 🤙🏻
🤙
Awesome video! I'm bringing the boat down there at the end of August for a week to fish.
This technique should work good in August, especially if it's windy. Good luck!
After fishing Carolina Rigs for years, I'm now using a Knocker Rig pretty exclusively.
@@JohnHoard-xz5pw never a bad option on the knocker rig. And if you think about it, same principle - Bait floating a few inches off bottom, hardly any tension on hook. What length do you like on leader to hook portion from your main weight leader?
Going back to straight mono. Ain’t no pilings on the beach.
Very good video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I’ve always used a heavier mono from my braid because someone told me the mono sat better in the water where fluoro would float off the bottom
I tend to do the same. I think you can get away with heavier mono up top too for strength and also something to grab when needed. Thanks for the comment!
Instead of using egg sinkers...ill use a bank sinker with short 1-2" of line to a swivel then just simple run that where you usually run the egg sinker...wont destroy your line.. slides pass your connection knots and great when the sinker snags...itll always pop at the sinker if you use a smaller lb diameter.
That's pretty interesting. And like I said in the description, there's no wrong way to soak bait. What stops the bank sinker/swivel from sliding all the way to the hook?
@@haltysalty7537 a bead and another swivel like a regular carolina rig
@@mikeyang3926 oh okay. Does the weight with swivel slide up your braid while you're fighting the fish? I've often had that happen with fishfinder weight connectors which I don't really like.
@@haltysalty7537 not really...i usually run a leader about 6-7' the swivel will stop at the connection knot...only time i had it pass is if a fish ran with it further than 6-7' and itll pass my connection knot
Great tip!!! I’m going out next week so I’m going to have to try this
Why not just tie the braid directly to the top barrel swivel? In other words...braid to barrel swivel to fluoro (slide weight) to barrel swivel to fluoro to hook? I feel like there is a good reason that I'm just not wrapping my head around.
Good question! I actually asked Ben the same question and what he said made since to me. It's two part- 1. The double uni knot (braid to leader) and then leader to first barrel swivel, is less likely to break or pull loose than braid to swivel. 2. Braid tied directly to swivel has a tendency to twist up and tangle, which I have experienced many times myself.
To me, the second reason is the more important one. Thanks for the question.
@@haltysalty7537 great answer...gonna change mine up and see how they do. Thanks for the tip!
