    Hey thanks for opening up this comment!
    I’d like to tell you more about the story of the Taoist Wellness Online, Master Gu’s Online Academy. How the Academy started is quite a funny story 🙈.
    We could never have imagined that today we are now the biggest Tai Chi school IN THE WORLD!
    It all began when I was 3 years into my journey living with Master Gu in his mountainous Tai Chi School.
    Master Gu is fluent in English and has always seen it as his life mission to share the healing Taoist arts of Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Meditation with the world. He shared with me his vision to create not only online courses, but an online Academy.
    I was excited by this vision and shared how I could use my filmmaking and inter-web skillz to make it happen.
    We then had a cup of tea and Master Gu sang Chinese opera while playing the guitar… 🤠☯
    We are really proud of what we have built. We now are a 16-person team from 7 countries and we are on a mission to create films, communities and transformative education to help people and planet live in balance.
    The Online Academy is one of the best ways you can help us on our mission and you get so much learning!
    If you become a student of the online Academy, you get:
    - Access to 100+ hours of teaching with Master Gu, recorded with love from the heart of China.
    - Learn with him in forests, caves and temples - all from the comfort of your own home.
    - An awesome student community! With regular online meet-ups.
    - Monthly livestreams with George and Master Gu
    - A (new) Taoist Wellness App so you can learn easily on the go.
    Best of all you can start for free with Master Gu’s free wellness wisdom course. 70,000 people have completed it so far.

    I also love Taoism! A nice example for this philosophy that I've kept in my heart is: Just to see the lake or any water, when you throw a stone into it, it does have ripples, but the stone will fall at the bottom and the ripples will gradually fade away and disappear. So Taoism encourages people to have this kind of altitude as water to face what happened in our life: Let the thing process itself, you will naturally have peace again, it's no need to fight it, otherwise it'll take a long time to get peaceful again.

      Sometimes, given stubbornness of Westerners, you have to rename it for them to allow it in. A taco was initially introduced as a "Mexican sandwich" or something like that. Ironically I saw a Shawarma advertised as a "Middle Eastern taco" once. So it is with Taoism. It's time to practice our mindfulness kids. Don't worry now, Jesus won't get mad.

    People who practices taoism are very charismatic. One can definitely sense it. I was first introduced to taoism during sophomore year in the political philosophy class and I just sensed something from my professor. At the time it didn't really understand what it was.
    As time went on, the more the professor took the class and I deeper into taoism, the more I got fascinated by it. And ever since.
    Eventually, I understood that taoism was part that made him the way he was :)

Just because someone plays Mozart bad does not make Mozart a shoddy composer. It’s not about your religion. Never has been. It’s about the relationship we have with our creator. Which is exactly why He sent His son down here to bring us home and tell us His true character.

    I've read the Tao Te Ching often and have always admired Lao Tzu's wisdom. I'm also a student of Stoicism, and, as such, I'm constantly struck by the similarities between Stoicism and Taoism. Both stress Mindfulness, experiencing Joy by living in the present, and not letting life's setbacks stress you out. Stoic master Epictetus also observed that we find happiness by realizing that there are some things we can control and some things we can't control, so stop trying to control the uncontrollable. I'm looking forward to learning more about the Tao.

    Wu Wei is one of the most exciting concepts I've encountered. Totally practical, simple, powerful. It's seems to be an antidote for the knots we're prone to tie ourselves in. It also has some of that quality of clarity of mind that I admire Bhuddism for, seeing things for what they are and acting accordingly. Idk, learning about spiritual concepts and trying to implement them improved my life massively. It's interesting, reading books on psychology you find *a lot* of overlap with these so-called mystical teachings. A gold mine for sure.

It helped me to embrace flow more in life and my hoop flow art. In the western world of go go go, work hard, keep striving...we are disconnected from finding the peace in softening, releasing control, and bringing our self back to awareness.

    I’m an atheist and find Taoism to be really interesting, since it embodies some specific aspects at the very basis of the scientific thinking.
    Namely, the realisation that a materialistic element may be judged as positive or negative only when there’s a relation between a subject (with a subjective view) and an object. Without sentient subjects, no interpretation of the world exists.

      Gabriele Scalise but Taosim ultimately aims to the experience of the Dao, which according to Lao Tzu is a reality beyond the senses. One can say it is mystical and seated on the existence of somethinh beyond the duality embedded in our mental perception of the world--spirit?. Nonetheless, I encourage you to practice it and experience it, rather than to understand it; that is, become the Dao.

      Taoism is really at its core a mysticism about the order of the universe. it's a philosophical religion, not a revealed religion (like Judeo-Christianity or Buddhism and to a great extent Confucianism as well). The "Tao" is said to be there before God even by Lao Tzu himself. In a way, even God has to act in accordance to some cosmic order that is distinct. There are "gods" in Daoism, but really those were inserted later on due to the syncretic nature of ancient Chinese culture, combining a purely philosophical tome (the Tao Te Ching) with deities from folk religion

      nah, Laozi said to look beyond good and evil at the Tao and there will be naturally good in the world, what that means is looking to the reasons and patterns that result in the constant creation of serial killers and then you can find a solution to their existence in the first place.

      @@Fear_the_Nog yes, I think that's excellent, that makes more sense to me. But the main comment was talking of having no objective understanding of good and evil, that good and evil itself don't exist, we only think it does, and I disagree with that.

    These Videos are really wonderful, I've been a taoist at heart for the last 10 or so years ever since my father gave me the Tao Te Ching saying he thought I would like it. It stuck with me ever since, the teachings just made so much sense. I started reading OSHO's books and fell in love with those teachings. That is my relationship with tao and I strive to deepen it daily. Sometimes I wish I had a master Gu of my own to train with and understand life.

      While it may be enticing, and while it may resonate, there remains the conclusion that the truth is only found in the Bible.

    • @jacobdrumm9206
      @jacobdrumm9206 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree that there's a lot of truth in the bible but I know that God has given all of us an internal guidance system to be able to feel when things are coming from the place of truth and love. If we cant trust ourselves then how will we ever trust another? To think that there is only one "Right" way of being is complete madness, There is truth found in many sources if you choose to believe in the most popular and accepted that's your choice but don't try to sway others into believing that your truth is the only one.

    • @ourbulwarkisjesuschrist9435
      @ourbulwarkisjesuschrist9435 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is only one truth, whereas pluralism is the greatest lie of our time. Taoism also claims to be the only way, but it carries not a sliver of truth. When two things conflict, only one can be true, and it certainly isn't Taoism.

    Relating to the topic, i did find the topic of Daoism to be in many aspects applicable to being content with life, especially in the bad moments. In work, what others see as negative, i see as what life intends, and often times, what has originally been good events mask bad intentions and negative outcomes. I appreciate that Lao Tzu wrote his thoughts for us.

    I saw this on reddit too, this is just too cool.
    Life is a mirror. That is a good way of saying that, I never could bring that knowledge into words, but that is exactly how I feel too. When you feel happy you can handle anything that comes your way, even if those things are hard to deal with. If you feel unhappy, there are little things that go easily or seem fun. I've been depressed for a long time of my life, and what helped me most is to just accept that every day is hard to go through, that every breath takes a lot of effort. And knowing that made things easier.
    I am a bit pessimistic. Not because I think life sucks, but just to keep my expectations low. If I expect life to be hard, then it always seems to go easy on me. When I expect things to go smoothly I'm always let down, because nothing is perfect, something will go different than expected. But while I'm pessimistic I do know that everything will be all right in the end. As long as you know that everything was, is and will be alright, and know that things always turn our different then you had in mind, you will feel happy, no matter how things turn out to be.
    Looking forward to your videos!

      Normally I'm against most pessimism, but this isn't a bad take. I like how you piint out that having low expectations doesn't necessarily mean you're expecting everything to turn out bad. Rather that you're ready for the sour taste so that when it happens, it may be sweeter than you expected. Is there a better word than 'soft pessimism'?

  • @AlexanderRivera23
    @AlexanderRivera23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @George Thompson while having a personal tea time watching this video, my knowledge from what I have learned is that as new to Taoism, its all about being in the very present moment and acknowledge what’s around you. No matter what situation we go through in our everyday lives, we always be sure to acknowledge, smile and move on with both gentleness and happiness. Just like how Lao Tzu drank the vinegar and didn’t let the sour bitterness get to him, he allowed himself to still smile and be happy and not have ugly flavor get to him. He yet still remained calm and gentle. Say you walk around in public, and you encounter someone who’s being present either rude, mean or making angry complaints...that does not mean you have to do the same and act like what he or she is doing towards you..Instead, stay calm, stay happy, and stay happy...wherever there is sad and anger there is love and happiness...and that moments with anger and negative complaints do not last long forever...like a mirror on what you master said, when you smile the mirror smiles, when you are still your reflection stays still, when you stay calm your reflection stays calm...just like when it comes to you surroundings...when you get angry you will make an angry environment where as if you are sad you are gonna make your surrounding full of sadness...just like how when the plants of nature always stays calm no matter what type of situation it is...we do the same as a tree does or be like water...understanding balance to me personally is that when it comes to emotions we must always know that there is no one without one another...so whenever you feel a negative emotion analyze and know that there’s always good, love and peace..that’s what I’ve learned so far when watching this I can be wrong, but that’s so far what I am understanding...I think a good way to practice this Taoist exercise is have tea time and focus on gentleness and also look at yourself in the mirror and just smile non stop and reflect it in your surroundings

      This "distinction" makes absolutely no sense in the context of traditionnal chinese culture since the very word "religion" was imported in chinese language only recently in the early 20th century. If we refer to daoist liturgy and ceremonies, they have their roots in ancient chinese shamanism and already existed in the time of Laozi/Zhuangzi.

    • @HeavenlyHouse
      @HeavenlyHouse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I don't dispute that these arose at the same time. Only that their paths have diverged over time, so that the distinction must be made now. In the present day. This is what my Taoist teacher (from China) continuously stresses.

    • @vegan4theanimals
      @vegan4theanimals 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      HeavenlyHouse no it doesn’t. Separation of anything draws one thing apart from another, it’s all connected.

    • @grantengroff173
      @grantengroff173 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Why would we put effort into separating the two? The religion and the philosophy share the same essence. In the same way that all things are fundamentally one. Just as we should not look to separate human beings because of differences and details, we should not separate these two different aspects of Daoism. The most fundamental part of anything is it's true essence. When it comes to people, focusing on differences and seperation due to these differences is the reason for our highly divided society. Now most of the world has lost touch with, or is completely unaware of their true essence. If we don't keep our focus on the essence of Daoism, whether it is the philosophical or the religious aspect, and aim for separation due to details the same thing will happen. Eventually the true essence of Daoism will be forgotten or overlooked because people can't see past the highlighted differences. Although human beings do have superficial differences, we should not focus on them. All that that truly matters is what lies at the center, the thing that we all have in common.. Daoism should be looked at the same way. We must not segregate the religion and the philosophy because of details. We must see past those things and only focus on the shared beauty at the center of them.. Similar to Lau Tzu's reference to the wheel, it is the center hole which makes the wheel usable. Every wheel has the same hole in the center, but there is an endless variety of spokes. We should keep our focus on the center hole, not on the individual spokes. We should focus on the essence of Daoism, not the individual practices.
