Incompetent leaders sent Kargil soldiers to their deaths. Where is the accountability?

- Twenty five years ago this summer, the Kargil war ruthlessly exposed a series of blunders by military commanders and political leaders, who ended up sending hundreds of young soldiers to their deaths. The time has come to honour their sacrifice by ensuring accountability, not just delivering eulogies.

Incompetent generals need to be held accountable.
Accountability within Army especially Air force needs to be a thing
Captain Kalia who got tortured to death, His parents are still fighting for Justice and nothing has been done.
And nothing will be done, till the Praveen Swami's of the Print keep blaming us for not being vigilant enough while acting as if what Pakistani's did was natural, reasonable or whatever. Praveen has Pakistani friends in London he needs to nurture. If he doesn't nurture them, he can't dramatically bring them on his shows, and soon his job will be less relevant. So Kalia be damned, Praveen's career and income are more important. Whatever mistakes our Army men made, the Army knows them well and has already taken corrective action. But our reporters? Their job matters more than India itself. This is how journos in true democracies are. Themselves, over everything else.

While the armed force deserve the respect it gets as they are the reason our country remains safe but we need to stop treating them as people/organizations who cannot be questioned. We tend to consider it blasphemy whenever anyone questions the armed forces. We shouldn't forget that people in the forces also come from within our society, which is full of inefficient, corrupt and megalomaniac people. While we give due respect to the armed forces, we shouldn't hesitate to hold them accountable as well. E.g. few months back when terrorists martyred around 5 of our army men who were sleeping in a makeshift camp, the army initially falsely portrayed that those Bravehearts died valiantly fighting the terrorists and they also inflicted casualty on the terrorist. Much to our embarrassment, truth came out when the terrorists shared their GoPro video footage showing the truth was far from what IA claimed. Nearly 600 men were lost - not just because guard was let down allowing the intrusion - but mainly due to our govt's need for coffins with martyrs - to win an election.
How much armor that Pakistanis had in Kargil that spooked us to respond with such hastiness. Was election not in their mind when they started the practice of sending the coffins of the martyrs to their home towns. My understanding is - it was not done prior to this conflict.
That actions still cost us valuable human lives - as indian army fears a repeat of Kargil in Siachen and not interested to vacate Siachen without ironclad guarantees from Pakistanis.
Atalji, Mr Jaswanth Singh, Mr George Fernandes - all three of them much loved by us for various traits, And Gen Mushraff - much hated by many - share at least two things in common. Vajpayee wanted to be another Nehru. Rather than attacking other parts of Pakistan as Shashtri did in 1965 Vajpayee restricted the war within Kargil and that was the reason for so many deaths of our soldiers.
Not crossing the LOC was a brilliant plan! Coz now the Pakis (and international pressure) cannot force a ceasefire half way through. Became we were not fighting Pakistan. What we do on our sovereign land, no one can interfere. This took long time n more lives, but ensured our victory
wdym ? india was already sanctioned at that time. we couldn't manufacture enough weapons and machinery to sustain an offensive. going into pakistan meant more losses. A possible US intervention on pakistan's side was also possible.
Oh really? Shastri Ji had to ask fellow countrymen for a day's fast to support food shortage in 65, and he still made Ayub Khan dance on his tunes. Vajpayee was just enough nice man for newspapers and a very bad leader on all fronts.
Why not call your fellow peers like Barkha Dutt out while you are at it? Who were basically broadcasting our soldiers positions to the enemies. The press like to act as the gatekeepers of freedom of speech as though the right to drop information without confirmation is their god given right. Indian press has always been the fourth pillar of democracy for some other country but never for India herself.
The reason why the Pakistani army could take over the Indian army posts at high altitudes and thus start the kargil war was that, the armymen usually retreat from their high altitude posts in winter and go back only after a few months.
What most indians dont know is that there were similar neighbouring indian posts at the same altitude that the Pakistanis were never able to occupy as they were held by BORDERMEN(Indian Border Security Force) and not army men. The bordermen never abandoned their posts even in deep winter and thus these were never occupied by the enemy. If the borderman could hold his post in winter why could the army man not. This also needs to be enquired into...

We did not have the required infrastructure to maintain our presence in those regions in winter. Minus 30 to 50 degrees requires special clothing and protective tents with heating .
