One of our most enjoyable caving days! Says the old guy who stayed on top while Calvin went down and got lost. Lol
ah man the first 3min got me hyperventilating had to pause it
Just subscribed to your other channel as I know it will be as good as this one. Thankyou for another brilliant and educating video.
Hi, I saw one of your previous videos earlier where Jacob talked about the John Jones case. Would you be interested in covering that story a bit more, like what could have been done to save him from an expert’s point of view? Was there any way of him turning around some way perhaps? Thanks!
Hi from UK, Im late to this video but I always watch because I find them so interesting. Can you do a video on the formations and markings in the caves explaining how they got there and how long it would take to develop etc!? They just look so cool and its good to see your still caving with your dad ☺👍
This reminds me of the time that I became hopelessly lost in IKEA.
Fortunately I was escorted to the exit by security after being spotted on CCTV relieving myself in a flowerpot.
My wife drug me to IKEA once. I’m MUCH more comfortable in a cave at 35 degrees and lost in some new corridors. Grandpa.
Good tip. However . . . I think I bought that flowerpot!

ALWAYS bring a good map to Ikea, and leave rock stacks at the entrances.
Absolutely terrifying to think of getting lost in a space that tight. Huge props to you for still recording and showing us this footage.
Thank you. So often, I put the gear away too early and then regret it... because if we make mistakes, I do want to show that. It's part of the truth.
ive got HUGE respect for him and ESPECIALLY the young man thats with him alot, son maybe? these give me nightmares, but i still cant stop watching! lol
That young man is Calvin’s nephew, and an accomplished caver. If you see an old guy in the videos, it’s me, at 73 and papa grandpa of the team. Glad you got your breath back.

This is by far the most underrated channel on TH-cam. I’ll continue talking to folks about this content. How has this not blown up like crazy yet?
Thank you!
I'm not sure what makes a channel blow up or not. We were blowing up on tik tok but got banned so, there's that.
We get offers every day to do interviews on on podcasts and other channels. And folks asking to use our content. We say yes sometimes, but we got lives to lead outside the TH-cam space! I'm just saying that while the page may not be blowing up there,s certainly a lot of activity behind the scenes.
Thanks for your support! We'll see what happens!
@@CalvinHikes I found you from tiktok, like a month or two ago
@@CalvinHikes banned why? Make another. Just stay consistent to grow a channel
They didn’t offer any reason. Perhaps not wearing masks underground. 🤪. It couldn’t be the danger factor. California freeways are much riskier. Thanks for watching. Caveman’s dad

That dude is so charismatic and loves what he does, Can almost sell you on something you'd swear up and down you wouldn't do.
Thank you! No matter what you do in life, you are always selling yourself, not your product. In other words people (generally) like people for who they are not what they do.
I have never watched any amount of TH-cam videos that I genuinely cannot look away from bc they are so entertaining. Thank you for making this content!
Thank you so much that's very nice of you to say.
Man I can even begin to describe how I feel about these videos; I just found your channel last week and I’ve watched at least 20-30 videos already. It’s so interesting in too many ways to explain; down to every detail. Even your dad explaining that this was a tradition for you all was truly amazing.
I wish I could do these kinds of things but sadly I think it’s out of the question for me. I’m 6’6-6’7 around 230-240ish year around but I broke my neck when I was 10 and think I would have a hard time crawling and squeezing because of that.
But this is so interesting to me! I would never go cave diving or any of that but the ocean is so cool; just sketchy and where I broke my neck at effects your breathing here say so I don’t think tanks are for me lol. But this? I could convince myself to do this somehow, someway. Just really feel I wouldn’t be able. Thanks for the inspiration good sir; not only teaching us but teaching your family first and foremost and the rest of the world that wants to listen! Seriously so insightful! Keep it up and be safe out there!
Thanks for all the kind words!
And welcome to the dark frontier.
You're so calm for being lost! I would be panicking like crazy! Also huge congratulations on 50k subs!
Thank you!
Being calm is the best way to make decisions.
@@CalvinHikes That is something that every manager in very stressful roles should do. Do you use a special technique how to stay calm? Do you mediate? Or your personality is just like that? Also, just out of curiosity, do you have a wife? I was just wondering how she must be. If my husband did so extreme caving, I would be constantly worried 😅
Bad Dad here. Calmness is a developed skill. Calvin is a Gulf Veteran...two trips. That developed some amazing skills in him. I’m proud to be included in these explorations. Great questions, btw.
I imagine it’s very easy for people to panic as soon as they feel lost / scared / stuck. I assume that’s how cavers end up losing their lives! It’s good to see you stay so calm even under times of intense pressure!
Good on you.
Yea panic creeps up on all of us. But fear only leads to bad decisions.
Big respect. I could never do this. To much fear. To tight. Hope you never get hurt. Be careful
I love getting stoned and watching u guys explore I wish I had the knowledge/ people to explore

Your life advice in many of your video’s, alone with most of the encouragement to challenge yourself has been helping me through some challenging times in my own life. Love the videos, and I’m glad you’re able to stay safe/ get out of endless maze caves.
That's very kind of you to say! It's been a weird couple of years and we can all use some positive encouragement.
@@CalvinHikes it’s a pleasure to continue to show kind gestures. Life has been strange, and will possibly continue to do so. But in the end. Finding out hobbies, and finding more about ourselves can always evolve into something more, I look forward to more videos and more encouraging words. You all stay safe. Writing from West Virginia. We have some awesome caves/oldMines here where I’m from. If you ever get the chance to check them out sometime I highly recommend to do so.
Some years ago, I went through a lava cave (could walk upright all the way) but would never do the stuff you do. I am sure lava caves are safer than old mines to explore. I am getting better at not getting freaked out by the tight spaces when I watch cave exploring, but I did get spooked by the thought of getting lost underground........Great video!!!!!
I think most caves are less prone to collapse than mines. But mines are fun too!
Just wanna say thank you for deciding to make this channel and share all ypur caving trips with us. I cant physically go caving anymore due to a severe back injury from a car accident 4 years ago and last time i tried to go caving was 3 years ago and it was a beginner cave but doing these types of caves with crawls and squeezes and low cielings to get to lava rooms and bubble rooms that nobody really goes into and is still all intact i cant go into anymore and ypur videos are amszing and allows me to be able to experience caving again in a way along with yall. I have only 25 percent rotation and flex in my spine and im only 32 and i hurt every day and legs go numb no way i could ever go on yhese tight caving trips ever again so thabk yall
I only discovered your videos about a week ago and I just keep watching. I am at about the 3 minute mark and I have to say that this has prove to cause me the most anxiety. At this point I don't see anyone with you and I have the worst sense of direction every (so getting lost is my thing). That being said I don't think I will ever go caving but I will keep watching these videos!!! More exciting than the Marvel Universe.
Welcome to the dark frontier.
You have convinced me to go caving in Jamaica this winter break!
There are some cool caves over there!
Let us know how it goes.
I just started watching your videos now i cant stop
We'll keep making more. And if you haven't found it there is plenty more on the 2nd channel.
The continuing caving adventures of John Malkovitch and his dad/nephew/nephews friend are absolutey terrifying. I couldn't do what you guys do. Kudos!
Caving kinda becomes a family gig. There’s so much to discover, and as we tell the family, they crawl in the truck when we start loading gear.
I just started watching your videos. I really enjoy them. I use to go in caves when i was 12 with my friends. We would go into tight places also. It was exciting. They were in West Virginia . I am 70 years old now. And cant walk. Its like I am back in the caves with you and Jacob. Thank you for the great times caving. I subscribed and will be looking forward to the next.
Wonderful thank you. It is a lot of fun.
This guy is simply amazing! He gets lost and acts like it’s a day at the beach which is probably why he’s able to still get safely out of the cave. The way he explains what is going in the cave and how it got that way is testament to his knowledge and expertise as a spelunker! One of the best channels on TH-cam for spelunking and exploring caves
Thank you! We're just down here having a good time. In the cold and dark.
I love to hate to watch these videos because of my extreme fear of confined spaces 😳
At least you are partially facing your fear.

Thank you!
Grandpa here. Three generations of the family cave frequently. Our family reunions are unique.
The first time I watched these videos, I thought to myself: "never in a million years." After a few videos, I found myself thinking id definitely give it a try with these guys. I am not sure its one thing specific that made the change, moreso the combination of Charisma, Attitude and Ambition displayed in these videos. About a month after starting watching them, i found myself making it up all the climbs ive never brought myself to try at my local nature reserve (its a large natural sandstone quarry). Couldnt be happier. I thoroughly enjoy it, and now I am planning my first caving experience in a couple of months! my addiction to the outdoors is growing, adding paramotoring to the list of hobbys soon as well. Thanks, calvin and family, for the inspiration!
As we say, you will never know your limits unless you push them. Great story.
I love your visuals they're such a nice extra thing to your videos. I appreciate the effort
You know what really astonished me it isn't so much the tight squeeze but those giant cave spots deep down that you can actually walk through. I find that incredible! Giant walk through holes so deep down below the earth. Love your video guys!
A couple recent caves have been 90 plus feet high. We feel
Like Lilliputian
A nice large cave with pretty formations to spend a long time looking at them. You have a amazing family. From 1 generation to the next sounds like you and your dad learned some amazing things about life, family and spending time outdoors.
And, we’re still learning. Every day is an adventure to be enjoyed. Some people get bored with above ground adventures. Include us in that group. Bad Dad.
No clue why I keep watching this kind of videos since I get anxious and my palms sweaty. But there is something intriguing in what you do and how you do it.
Same reason we cave. Not because it's easy but because it's hard and somehow rewarding!
Love your videos, they've really helped get me more interested in what's around me. Most of the time I find your videos relaxing almost. This one had my feet and hands sweating, even knowing you obviously made it out.
we reversed the chronological order of the video so the video would be emotionally lighter as it goes.
What you said is really great to hear because that's really what we want. I mean, we're just making videos having fun but if it encourages people to participate more with life than that is that is awesome.
i like how you're using your gopros, alot of different perspectives. i find it cool seeing the cave in a first person view
Thank you and you are welcome. It's very difficult to take good video in caves! Its cold and dark and wet.
So scary to be lost in such tight spaces nowing you might not be able to turn around
It can produce a little anxiety, then we get on with the challenge at hand. It’s part of the addiction of adventure.

I'm having panic attacks watching this. You are hard core, and brave, awesome channel
Just having fun between a rock and a hard place! Bad dad
I think what you do is great, especially taking your nephew and teaching him. I’m 40 now but my brothers and I had all kinds of fun climbing cliffs and going in holes, hunting and fishing back in the 80’s and we didn’t have adult supervision. It gives you a confidence in yourself to make good decisions and take care of yourself. Its a powerful gift you’re giving your nephew that most other kids in this day and age won’t have. Society has become too accustomed to pavements, cafe’s and internet, they forget that it’s the same harsh world as it was in the stone age and when that thin veil of modern safety disappears they’re left with no skills.
Thank you and agreed. I like to say that raising children to become more capable is not endangering them. What endangers children is releasing them to a cruel society without any personal confidence or ability to deal with fear.
The world is chewing up and spitting out young people, generation after generation. We have become weak so that weak ideals are permitted to rise to the surface.
@@CalvinHikes I totally agree, the mental strength Jacob must have is incredible and I doubt he’ll encounter a situation in life that he can’t handle as a result. Even though we used to crawl in caves it was nowhere near this level, I’ve really enjoyed your videos.
Thank you!
Most underrated channel on TH-cam!! Filming and editing has only gotten better and better with every video!
Thank you! We may slow the process down even more. I'd like to work on some real feature length shows. But it means more time between video releases. We'll see what happens!
@@CalvinHikes If the content keeps improving, I'm sure it's worth it! Also, just an idea, consider hiring a cheap freelancer/designer to create improved graphics for your cave maps. It may be too much of an ask, but some 3D graphics could really help viewers better understand the dimensions of the areas you explore.
I love this channel.. Wouldn't dream of going caving myself but it's so interesting to watch you guys do this. I'm amazed anyone can enjoy it tbh but it makes exceptional viewing :)

This is why I take a cave diving line with me in dry caves.
We have used fluorescent yarn in the past, but generally find it a challenge to remove. There are better ways, and we live to go again. Lots of precautionary gear in that bag. Bad Dad
Always been terrified of caving after reading about that nutty putty incident. Your vids are making me slowly want to try it, keep up the great work!
You know what would be an AMAZING TOOL THAT I JUST REALIZED??? With The newer iPhones you can scan an area and it creates a 3D model of the areas scanned. You could scan and make a 3D map of an entire cave with your iPhone (and probably some spare batteries) I think I’m going to try this on my first caving trip soon
Yes you can but it can only do one small area at a time. But that technology is at our doorstep. I for one am very excited about 3D mapping the interior of a cave.
This situation would scare the fuuu out of me 🙈 thanks for sharing

These videos are so interesting but i literally have to take deep breaths to watch them
We do what we have to in creating them. Breathing helps us too.
Every time I watch these videos, I'm full of a sense of absolute dread and anxiety but also a strange sense of calm. I've always wanted to try caving but every time I see these tunnels that are barely the size of a person, it puts me off
There are many walking caves just for you.
How can you stay so calm in such a situation?! I would freak out if I wouldn't know where I am going.
I was lost like a person gets lost in city traffic. I didn't know where I was but I was pretty sure I could get back if I just paid attention. I was mostly uncomfortable because it was a very difficult crawl and I hate to have to turn around and go back through that again.

Are you a member of a caving grotto? If you're in caves a lot, it's a good place to share information. There's the Oregon grotto, the Oregon high desert grotto, and the Willamette Valley grotto which are in those caves in central Oregon quite a bit.
Just found y'all last night and I've watched video after video since
Welcome to the dark frontier.
Caves are very fascinating to me but I'll leave it to professionals like y'all and I'll sit back and watch videos, keep it up y'all are amazing
Cant stop watching your videos!
Keep up the hard work
When we love our work, it isn’t work anymore. Thanks for watching
Why isn't string recommended when that's what's used in cave diving?
Its messy, unecessary and not going to be adequate in truly mazy caves. Its ok to use, but there are other methods which dont have to be "cleaned" up. Just our opinion on that one.
Dude I’m literally scared to watch your videos sometimes 😂 I have to hype myself for a few days first. Keep up the insanely crazy work my dude! ❤️
Thank you so much. I think we've got some coming that you won't be able to make through.
@@CalvinHikes you’re more than welcome! See, when you say things like that I dread to think what’s coming! hahaha but I honestly can not wait!
Love the videos, ive learned so much! Above all else stay safe Caveman, its a fantastic and beautiful hobby but a dangerous one for sure.
Thanks. We are very precautionary in our adventures. It’s far safer than most of the highways. Bad dad.
Anyone else get a panic attack everytime he goes through a squeeze?
