Wow. That thing wentbup and down your short part of the road so many times. In tge city where I'm from in Canada it would drive up one side and down the other one time only... and made a huge snowbank for us to clear to get our cars out. I remembear as a 5 yo back in 1963 we were snowed in down a small single track road in the wilds of the Surrey countryside and my dad dug a pathway about half a mile up to the main road. Unfortunately it snowed again in the night and it was filled in again by morning. I also have memories of deep snow in Germany where we lived for about 5 years continuously when my Dad was in the army. All great fun for us kids playing trekking through the arctic, sledging, snowball battles, making snow houses and snow men plus snow days away from school, but not so much fun for the grown ups. I do love snow but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it much where I live and I can stay home nice an cosy when it's icy out. I do have to negotiate ice in my road but it's only about 100 metres or so as there is a main bus route that goes past us and they keep the main roads clear (I live in town). And I do have be careful walking to my car as I have crutches but my neighers are really good keeping the shared pathways cleared.❤

More fun than lifting weights! And besides you have time for a nap, before you hit the slopes. Your neighbour was very effecient, of course he's had more practice, and the pavement in front of his place is level.😃 A corner lot is more work.

Random thought, can you put a tarp down close to the house before it starts snowing, and just flip the snow out into the street when its clearning time?
I'm from Canada, those landscapes and that weather remind me of home haha. Although i'll say i feel like because it gets even colder here, the snow we tend to get is more powdery so it's usually easier to shovel because it's lighter. But we do get our fair share of heavier snowflakes more like at the end of the season. I prefer those better because they're way more picturesque aha. It's very rare for people in Canada to have to shovel their roof too, houses tend to be able to support that weight. Where i live we have a continental/humid climate, so it gets very humid during summer and very cold during winter. I can't imagine not having AC or good insulation for the house. People tend to compare Japan and North America often, but people should really compare it more with Europe in term of housing, because AC and heating isn't that great over there either.
Matt, thank you for sharing. I have a question for you. While I see the tools of the trade you are using to remove snow are shovels. Can you use a snow thrower. Battery powered or gas powered? For me, I have a snow thrower as well as I plow that I attach to a riding lawnmower. Just wondering. Oh Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
There are people across Canada that will never see major snowfalls like that again that they might have seen in the 70's & they count you as blessed. As a Skier, Your Really Blessed
Everywhere is different. It’s something I want to investigate though but my understanding is it’s at the discretion of the snow removal company. I can understand that they would do this in the middle of the night when no cars are using the road as they would need to shut the road down. There’s a hospital on the street. This area is quite large so they would need to start early to clear the whole town. But I too would like a deeper understanding of the decision. The time can vary between 1AM and 5AM but usually somewhere in the middle. For us, the snow clearing is almost guaranteed if we see more than 10cm of snow. FYI, everything is always different in Japan when it comes to these things. Each area faces unique conditions and even with something like garbage recycling each area has different facilities so different methods. We always need to learn the local ways when we move in Japan
@@im.mattguy Thank you! Hopeful to move there myself one day and being in a snowy region would be nice! Maybe not so heavy as where you're at though lol.
If you don't keep clearing the snow will the front of your house become completely covered? Are there houses that are vacant and if so do they get completely snowed in and covered? Awesome videos!
The electric ones don’t keep up well here, not in the town. I would need something with a lot more power and I’m enjoying the snow clearing plus avoiding that cost for a little longer. It might change this year though as we keep getting huge storms. 8ft in the way in the next few days
People use them, I’m holding out for now. My area to clear isn’t so big but I think this year’s snowfall is going to quickly make me change my parking to the rental garage. We could be getting another 8ft of snow over the next few days
The snow was coming down so fast! It piles up quickly when it's that heavy. And you're a super guy for letting your girlfriend park her car in your garage!
At least there is still winter here, and snow, and most importantly precipitation!!! not like in this (death valley-like) central Europe! We haven't even known what winter is for years because of the damned Gulf Stream! What I wouldn't give to work with that machine!!! I would love it!

hey man, I've been wondering and I know this sounds dumb as you live in japan, but do you know Japanese? I always wondered. Also keep it up! loving your vids man.
See how the other neighbour goes out of the way and under cover when he plows and you dont. That worries the driver. He knows where she is but you have endangered yourself 4 times during the plow and the driver will not come close even with your tree there. Copy others exactly because they have been doing it for years.
how is it legal to just pile snow up in your way? seems like it would be illegal and it its sooooooooooo rude for that driver to do that to people. what happens when its an elderly person or disabled person and they cant get out and shovel the snow?
In Finland, it's totally opposite. It's prohibited to clean you shit to the public street. City can give you a penalty for that since you have now sabotaged their work. Thus, they can block your way from your home to the street but you can't showel that snow back to the street without getting yourself into problems.
Homeboy across the street has a system man. No wasted energy. You be flailing around. Best thing to do is hire like three Mexicans. They hate the cold so they work real quick.

What if they built homes over there but 2m from the ground, wouldn't that make life a bit easier. The heated roads i've seen also look awesome
Are snow blowers not allowed?
I'd go buy a snowblower...a BIG one!
I would think given the small area and amount of snow an electric snow-blower would be worth investing in.
The electric ones don’t keep up well here, not in the town. I would need something with a lot more power and I’m enjoying the snow clearing plus avoiding that cost for a little longer. It might change this year though as we keep getting huge storms. 8ft in the way in the next few days
Do you have to clear the snow every night?
I know exactly what that means Matt!!
what model is your NF jacket??
awwww❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Are personal snow blowers not allowed?
They are allowed and many use them. We have snow melters as well
How is that perisble? Japanese law states differently.
People use them, I’m holding out for now. My area to clear isn’t so big but I think this year’s snowfall is going to quickly make me change my parking to the rental garage. We could be getting another 8ft of snow over the next few days
Every area in Japan works differently depending on the needs and agreements in the area. It needs flexibility to deal with the unique challenges
Q: is not possible to keep the car inside the shed? 😊 you already responded at the end of the video 😂
Sorry you already responded at the end 😂
Is there another way do it faster ?
I’m open to suggestions hahaha
Who won the kimono?
The snow was coming down so fast! It piles up quickly when it's that heavy. And you're a super guy for letting your girlfriend park her car in your garage!
At least there is still winter here, and snow, and most importantly precipitation!!! not like in this (death valley-like) central Europe! We haven't even known what winter is for years because of the damned Gulf Stream! What I wouldn't give to work with that machine!!! I would love it!
What is it like to live in Japan?
I live in north London England UK and Im very disappointed of our weather here because i love snow,,, when i see snow in other countries i start dreaming about at least 5-10inches of snow 😂😂😂😂
I feel like you either need more than a shovel or more people ? No ?
妙高はスキーヤーにとっては天国ですが、そこに住む人々には苦労も多いです。私も新潟県民なので
雪国ならではの苦労はたくさんありますね!
So it might just be the camera angle or lens. But it seems like that truck sped past you pretty fast. Feels kind of dangerous.
matt guy can yo take us to dinner at your neighbours restaurant please
Lots of snow on your roof looks awful heavy
Why am I watching this?😅
hey man, I've been wondering and I know this sounds dumb as you live in japan, but do you know Japanese? I always wondered.
Also keep it up! loving your vids man.
Hey mat why don't u buy a big snowblower. And rent out your services
It reminds me of the military meme of "I like the way this sucks"
Imagine having to leave for work by 7am in the morning. 🤦🏻♀️
See how the other neighbour goes out of the way and under cover when he plows and you dont. That worries the driver. He knows where she is but you have endangered yourself 4 times during the plow and the driver will not come close even with your tree there. Copy others exactly because they have been doing it for years.
use ice melt
how is it legal to just pile snow up in your way? seems like it would be illegal and it its sooooooooooo rude for that driver to do that to people. what happens when its an elderly person or disabled person and they cant get out and shovel the snow?
Best you phone the police 🙄
In Finland, it's totally opposite. It's prohibited to clean you shit to the public street. City can give you a penalty for that since you have now sabotaged their work. Thus, they can block your way from your home to the street but you can't showel that snow back to the street without getting yourself into problems.
first :)
Number 1! 🥇
I am from Canada , I know what its like . Have fun , I hope you have a warm body waiting in bed for you .
Homeboy across the street has a system man. No wasted energy. You be flailing around. Best thing to do is hire like three Mexicans. They hate the cold so they work real quick.
You gotta remember the neighbor and Matt’s building are very different. Also, the neighbor has been living there his whole life. This is Matt’s second year 🤧
@@dylanjonai3126 Well old man across the street has a black belt in snow clearing and Matt is still a white belt. He needs to study with Mr Miyagi.
Hey Matt.Could you make a vídeo about relationship in Japan. As you know in our countries is all ABOUT MONEY FOR WOMEN AND THEY DON T HAVE ANY IDEA LIVING TOGETHER AND SHARING LIVES
Relationships would be very interesting! Probably a few parts to that series!
