Still I want to tell you how happy this video made me. First of all it is impressive from the editing quality. Really tons to learn here from you. Second, it is amazing from the personal growth that started with this trip. I remember the thoughts we talked about on "what video you want to create" from this trip and I can say you nailed it 100%. Been watching your vids for a long time now, enjoyed your ups, felt your lows, but always seeing you stressed about this or that. You know what, I'm glad that the man who felt bad about not being a faster commission painter for his buddy, who felt bad for not finishing his army, who dreaded having to paint any more Eavy Metal Marines and admitted to not enjoying painting most times, is finally happy. I hope you'll enjoy your work as much from now on as I have been enjoying it. From me being a lonely dude watching your vids in his first flat to grown ass dad cramming in another of your videos when really I should've been in bed already, I hope we'll still be here enjoying your painting when we're both old men, creeping out youngsters with our little tiny toy soldier hobbies. So much of this hobby is only-hands and technique, it chases GW around like it they are waiting for senpai to notice. I really appreciate who you are choosing to be on TH-cam. Man, imposter syndrome can be really overwhelming. I've been in similar situations with my heros in the foamsmithing community. It sometimes it feels impossible to think people we look up to can see value in our work. Glad you got that chance!
A really nice video about the validation hell we often live in as TH-camrs.
It can feel like you live to serve the numbers, not the audience that got us here if we're to continue to grow, because that's the system that's been built for us to work in on TH-cam, it's really surprising how hard it is to *not* get sucked into the dopamine/stress machine that is YT studio.
The imposter syndrome can be VERY real but yeah dude you absolutely deserve to be where you are, always love your approach to and mindset around the hobby.

People often say "Don't meet your heroes, they'll only disappoint you.". I've met a few of mine, and they were wonderful. I'm glad you got to have a wonderful experience with a wonderful hero. It's great to see established artists taking an interest in helping others to move forward as well.

Your channel was my gateway into the world of miniature painting. I watched your beginner series prior to ever putting paint to plastic. I used your video with Jon to pick out the foundation of my paint collection. Imposter syndrome is a bitch, 18 years into my career and I still have days where I doubt that I know what I'm about. Stay true to yourself, your videos continue to inspire no matter the whims of the uncaring algorithm.

I'm not gonna lie it felt like some of your recent videos were hitting a lull there, and it did seem like you were painting in your comfort zone. There's nothing wrong with that at all! But it definitely started to seem like you had almost a "corporate" mentality, like you mentioned early in this video, like you were only painting for the TH-cam gods. Like you weren't creating for you anymore; painting or not.
This video is such an incredible shift that it sounds like you needed it, like you wanted this, that you did absolutely deserve this experience. This is a video I think we all needed as mini-painters; someone of stature--I mean that celebrity-wise, but you do seem like a really tall guy lol--hitting a bout of impostor syndrome literally across the table from someone like Roman, seeing a spark reignite not just here but through the social media stories as well, seeing a sense of inspiration come back almost as a tsunami.
This was an amazing video, and a reinvigorating one at that! Thank you.

I wateched this with my family during the Christmas break. I thought it captured exactly what our miniature painting hobby is...the mental struggles, the painting itself, and showcasing the godtier European artists. Hope you got a kick out fo knowing this brought my family together for a few minutes and helped explain what I spend my free time doing.

Hey Scott, you are putting the bar quite high for Roman. I was already super happy that I got one of the seats for his upcoming workshop. As that one approaches excitement rises, but with your video it goes through roof.
I am really looking forward to this and enjoyed your video, your thoughts and I glad you have found a great friend and had such a wonderful time. In the past unthought I need a workshop to improve techniques. While I still hope I will, I just go there now to have a great time and just bath in Roman‘s charisma and take a dip from his spirit.
I am so happy that you have gotten to experience what you did with a personal hero, and visit a place that you had dreamed about travelling to for so long. Just that something like that could happen to you as a consequence of being your genuine truthful self, and having the courage to live out your life in the service of your dreams, is such an inspiration. Scott, I watch all your vids when they come out. Some might perform well in metrics(looking at warhammer stuff) while others perform well in message, like this one here. We all hit slumps, but you're so right in just taking the time to be present in what you do, and that includes miniature painting. We're always creating something beautiful in our hands when we pick up a brush and slather wet pigment all over the model. I know that in part thanks to people like you who are able to find your videos and inspiration from that, you play a huge role in their hobby journey. That said, I'd totally say what Roman is to you, a hobby hero, you fill that role for me dude. Keep on keeping on brother, and thank you so much for making this kind of content.

I'm seeing you struggle for a long time now and to see that there are some people that believe in you, your art and your place in this hobby warms my heart. You are not an imposter by any means! You work your ass of for this. This isn't just a hobby for you. This is your passion, your life. Your dedication for this can be seen in every single video you published. You are not just a lucky guy. What you've experienced in germany and italy is something you've earned and deserved rightfully and I'm sure there is more to come.
I hope that the past weeks will put you in a better place. If you would stop doing hobby right now, you would leave a gap in this community nobody would be able to fill.

No matter how many views this gets, this will be your best video purely based on the meaning behind it. That video from Roman at the end was the cherry on top.
I first found you @miniac back in 2018 when i stumbled upon your eavy metal series. You were the first painter that I watched every video i could and the first person i subscribed to on Patreon. You inspired me to try to have fun and understand that i was doing was actually art and not just an expensive paint by numbers for a wargame that i didn't even play. I cannot explain how big this was for my development as an artist. I still struggle to say that even to this day. After dropping and picking up painting multiple time over the course of 3 or so years, I would come back to your videos every single time and it would kick off another round of painting. Now I paint more than any other hobby now. I actually play Warhammer 40k and have a 4000+ point fully painted and all be it boringly based army of a homebrew Salamander successor chapter. I follow more painters on instagram than any other subject, including food. All because of you my dude. You inspired it. I know suffering from imposter syndrome is never something you really get over but you aren't an imposter to me!!! keep up the awesome work! Oh and i stopped using alcohol in my airbrush like you recommended all those years ago and I haven't had that dry tip issue ever since

Great video, I'll admit to get a little teary-eyed from that message from Roman to you. You can just feel the life-changing experience this journey was for you. And thank you for talking about imposter syndrome - it's something that many (probably even most) people feel, and the more people talk about it the more it normalizes it for everyone. I have a graduate degree and am probably one of the most experienced people in my (admittedly niche) career field and still deal with imposter syndrome.
Watching the colour theory stuff, always brings me back to the episodes of "3 colours and up" on TH-cam. They are still up and a great place to learn colour theory for minis. or just in general

He seems like a really nice guy and I'm so happy that you had this opportunity, Scott. You have been a major influence in my own growth as a miniature painter so it's great to see you get the opportunity to grow as well.
I love that you got to experience all of this. My SO has tried to tell me many times to basically be like Roman, ie paint for you and only you and don’t let the “norms” of the hobby be something that guides you. It’s fine to learn techniques from people in the hobby but we should all seek knowledge outside our little hobby bubble

This was a wonderful video to see. I am much earlier, comparatively speaking, in my painting journey than you are but I feel like I understand some of that imposter syndrome. As a fellow midwestern from L'Étoile du Nord, it's a bit cathartic to know and see someone else break through those struggles, or at doing better in that struggle to find a place and to expand horizons. I myself am trying to break out of thinking I have to do X or Y when it comes to painting (though when perfectionism has dogged you for most of your life, it's like trying to punch through a brick wall).
Anyways, side tangent aside, it really is good to see you had such a wonderful time, learned some valuable lessons, and made a good friend along the way. Hope to bump into you at the Source someday!

You've come a long way sense making budget props and a puppet costar. I've learned a lot from you over the years (and many others). I'm glad you got to have this experience and its awesome it sounds like it was more then what you were hoping for.
Can agree with Roman, after coming over for the NOOB vid, i can confirm that enjoying the journey and not the destination is key.

Europe AND mini painting?! Incredible. I agree that as an American traveling to Europe is always an awe inspiring experience. I really appreciate the honestly and emotion in this video, it made the experience one I could connect to, even though I have not experienced this exact situation before. Thank you for sharing this
This was a really cool video. Not just because you had the opportunity to meet with Roman, but also because of what message you chose to say.
I really enjoy those kind of videox, where you combine the miniature painting hobby with other themes, such as the impostor syndrom or the difficulty to combine work and passion sometimes.
I hope you will continue to explore different ways of storytelling in your videos while continuing to bo honest and sincere and not always trying to get more views at the expanse of the quality or the uniqueness of your videos.

You were my first teacher when I started paintimg 6 years ago. Without you I would not have anyidea how to actualy paint or where to start man. You are my Roman man.

Met Roman this year at a Finnish convention called Ropecon. He was a special guest there and he was fucking awesome! They tell you to never meet your heroes but Roman defies that saying in every way possible!

Hey man, just wanted to take a moment while I'm absorbing this video to relate on a couple things, that I think maybe will be nice to hear from a fan and someone who admires your art.
- I am also on the cusp of my 30s, just beginning to learn maturity and develop a more sensible worldview. I definitely think I understand the headspace.
- I agree that Roman is one of the best painters in the world! This is incredible for you, and you've worked INSANELY hard to earn it. I remember that time you uploaded a video everyday.
- Just so you know, you are to me what Roman is to you. You TAUGHT me how to paint, but more than that, you taught me to think like an artist. Break down shapes and colors and wet a 💦moist💦 wet pallet for those c r e a m y blends. Etcetera.
I have spent HOURS painting minis and watching your videos thinking, "Hm. Man Scott is such a cool guy. It would be sick to get some Raising Canes tendies and paint with him."
So yeah. I get where you're coming from. I just wanted you to know that YOU are like Roman to someone.
I genuinely hope you do some videos on what you learned. Chromatic gray?? I'd be STOKED to see some stuff.

Every time I watch a new one of your videos, I am stunned by how good your camera work and overall composition of the shots and "flow" of the video are.

Just wanted to thank you for all the effort you put into these, especially the tutorials! Model painting used to be a zen thing for me, but as anxiety issues sort of spiralled I fell waaaay out of practise, but I'm slowly getting back into it now with some model styles that I'd never have tried if not for your help! Keep up the amazing work!
