MIT STUDENTS FLY TO ATHENS TO RUN THE ORIGINAL MARATHON | ATHENS AUTHENTIC 2022

We ran our first marathon on November 13, 2022, in Athens, Greece, on the course where the first marathon was ever run!!
Mindy, Varsha, and I are all studying abroad in Europe this semester and somehow decided to meetup in Athens to run this marathon together.
I'm not gonna lie, this marathon caused a lot of stress haha but I'm so glad I did it. I signed up for a half-marathon 2 months before, but ended up fainting 10 miles in due to low blood sugars and woke up in an ambulance not remembering who I was. I also missed my first flight to athens, pulled an all-nighter, and ended up booking a hotel for a night in london to make sure I didn't miss the next flight.
Also very proud of myself because I broke my leg last August from a indoor bouldering accident, underwent surgery where they put in a plate and 4 screws onto my left tibia bone, and couldn't start walking until almost exactly a year before the marathon. Really never imagined myself healing so quickly and definitely didn't think I would be running a marathon within the year. So appreciative of everyone who helped me through those tough times and motivated me to keep going:)
Somehow though, through all of this, we ended up finishing and with a time that I'm super proud of! The longest I had ever run before this was 15 miles on the hills of Oxford, but the energy of the crowds and the adrenaline really pushed me through it. During the marathon I had 4 gels, 2 powerade cups, 1/2 energy bar, 1 coca-cola cup, and lots of water.
Soo fun and def would run another marathon :) maybe in a year tho haha my legs are really struggling right now

Well done, this is a very good time for this race since it has a lot of uphill and the sun was a bit unforgiving this year, many congratulations for your achievement and the nice video. I was also there, I've done this course 8 times now, keep on smiling while you are running!
