- This painting tutorial shows how to paint realistic water in oils, a subtle balance of colors, values and edges.

Here I offer an insight into my technique and hope that all my artist-friends will find it useful or at least entertaining. You're most welcome to try out some techniques I taught myself over the years.
I used the following colors to create this ocean wave painting: Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson, Indian Yellow, Viridian (Green), Ultramarine blue and Payne's Gray (and of course Titanium White). I also used Liquin as a medium.
I really love and recommend brushes from my favorite supplier Princetonbrush.com : several sizes filbert brushes from Aspen series, #6 Catalyst angle bright and 2" wide angle brush from Aspen series.
This painting was painted in one sitting, wet on wet in about 5-6 hours.

I have always liked to paint, but did not start doing oils until 2 years ago in an art studio (as a hobby). I have been enjoying it, painting portraits, landscapes, animals, exercices... but lacking a goal, until I found your videos. I want to try to learn to paint seascapes in your style. It will be long and I will not ever be as good as you, but this is it truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your work!

This is a very well-done video! I like how detailed it is, I like that you actually did yor blending on the palette, I like that I could still follow on the time-lapse, the music...I like everything about this video! @@EvaVolf please consider a tutorial in real time or camera closer to see you better. Your the best painter of the sea....so many of us want to learn but there's no real lessons out there. Please consider if you have time or produce a DVD for purchase on water, waves Techniques many don't have internet access so DVD would be great.

Eva I was wondering what kind of canvas you prefer and what do you use as gesso to make them smooth? I love your tutorials they are wonderful!!!
I prefer Fredrix canvases, red label or Pro series, they are already pre primed and are the best canvases I have ever tried

Just a disposable one I bought from Jerry's Artarama, I think it's called Soho, I love that it's gray, you can see the true color mixes better than against a white one
