  • Jig fishing guru Greg Hackney says conditions often dictate the style of trailer you use on the back of jigs, but rate of fall is equally important. He explains that in this informative video.

I use a jig anytime I would use a Texas rig the jig is the most versatile bait made, Hackney is awesome at teaching and explaining things, I learn a lot from him Ott DeFoe and Randy Blaukat! They are awesome at really wanting to make regular people better fishermen

I didn't even think of matching water color to my trailer. I thought murky water dark trailer. Well now I know. Thank you for taking the time to make and share this with us.

    Love Hackney 👍👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣😁😁🤝🤝🤝
All those are amazing baits, I catch fish on those baits as a Jig trailer or just as a Texas Rig. I think there are a few more baits I like to add to that menu, we forgot a Swimbait on the back of a jig as a trailer. Everyone uses that, I always use a Swimbait as a trailer for #1 choice, #2 choice a Jerkshad, #3 then I will use any other trailer like the craws and the rodent and even a Ned Rig style trailer for shallow water. I used a GRUB one year in a small friendly tournament and the Bass were eating Tilapia but small ones, and they wouldn’t bite anything else no where near as good, I was catching 10 fish per house while the other guys were just scratching their heads trying to figure out what I’m doing different. Before the Ned Rig became famous, we used to use like a 3 inch senko as a jig trailer too. Jig is very Versatile, my favorite hands down football 🏈 style jigs or jig heads. I fish them from a 4 feet all the way up to 75 feet deep.
Takes a long time for the line to go down to 75 feet even with a big heavy trailer and 3/4 or 1 oz lead. Some people like to use 2 oz jigs or jig heads even in way shallow water like 25 feet, but I hate heavy jigs like that, I don’t like the giant rod and reels I need for them, because the heavy equipment will make you extremely tired during the 8 hour fishing day, flipping or casting. For most options in shallow water I also use a bullet style jig head just as much. 2 jig styles I use 90 percent of the time are the bullet style and the football style jigs or jig heads.
