    Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup th-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

    Something just clicked in my head after watching this video especially the part where Greg talks about the prey trying to get away in the bass's mouth. And the ass trying to keep it in. My jig fishing is on point now and honesty can say it's because of this video👍Thank you.

    The Hack is such a smooth operator at this technique. I've been on a crazy Jig bite here in central Alabama. It's September. One thing I wanted him to discuss was which way to swing when the fish has the Jig in his mouth. I noticed if you oppose the fish's direction the jig is less likely to hook the fish. I wanted to hear about his experience on this. Awesome video. Gleans confidence.

    Fish stay on jigs FOREVER. When I was first learning what a twig and what a bite was, the “bites” I found, would drag my line across ponds for 5-10 seconds LOL!

    I've made that mistake so many times. I learned the lesson with trout after missing a few after seeing them eat a jig. I thought I was just setting it too hard because I was excited, so I slowed down a bit and set it a little more deliberately. I never made the connection to missing bass bites sight fishing. Thank you for the lesson.

    Best day of fishing I ever had, I didn't catch one bass. Instead I was getting countless nibbles, those little machine gun bites on my lure from perch and that right there taught me what the bite felt like and taught me to pause and not get over anxious when setting the hook. After that day, my bass fishing success on plastics ans jigs went through the roof.

    You know,I started tieing 1 on about 5 years ago. But I KNOW how I fished a Jig vrs how I fish the Jig now. Went from big heavys to 7'3" M/H with a M Fast tip. And the hookset,even the way it feels when they hit the jig is the best feeling in Bass Fishing. My 2 Jig Rods are a 7'3" M/H and a 7'6" H Akylos by Sixgill. A 3/8's Jig on a M Fast tip for a better feel of the fish while I tighten that line and take that Swing. Yeah,ive been throwing a jig all week in this cooler water and LOVEN IT!!!! But for real, This is the best explanation of the Hookset with a Jig. If he never made this video,my jig would suck.

    I do a combined slack line and pick up the line hookset, I feel the weight drop down take 2 or 3 cranks and snap on him and any fish that's put my jig in their mouth I've hooked some come off because that's the sport but for example, I hooked a double digit bass on a bitsy jig and the jig was stuck in the roof of the mouth remember it's a big fish so it can and did throw the hook bc it straightened had I tied on a ballin out or a archy style head with a 4/0 hook he would be blistered to this day

    I used to let bass swim around with a Powerworm. Almost every fish would run with it for 20 sec. or more. Some would try to literally eat it. Fisherman set the hook too quickly 90% of the time.

    Style of a jig CAN actually matter. I love the Lunker Lure company, but recently have been missing some largemouth with their Triple Rattleback Flipping Jig. The bass were 2 pounders or better. I really think it is because of the 3 rattles packed together. I since have removed them and am hoping my hooking percentage will go up. Some jigs with a perfectly shaped conical head and fairly short shank hook have also given me problems. (Nichols Mango jig, but Nichols is a GREAT company with many fine products.) Here's a tip: REMOVE the fiber guard on a jig when you do not need it. Your hooking percentage will increase. I realize in most largemouth bass fishing situations, you WILL need the fiber guard, but I've won at least one "major" tournament doing this. Andy Williamson, Lake Andes, SD (If you do remove the fiber weedguard, you will not have to use this delayed hook set that Greg is promoting.)

    Unless it’s a bite like in the 2017 classic. I fished a tournament on Havasu, and I learned that sometimes, smallmouth will bite down so hard on the jig, that you’ll set the hook, and it won’t imbed in its mouth very well. Simply because they had it clamped down so hard.

      When i get them on a jig, i like to drag it on the bottom like a craw. I usually fell tap tap tap or like a pull. I like to always keep tight line on the jig to feel everything

    • @5280Bassin
      @5280Bassin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just because of the sheer amount of weeds and muck I don't fish them a whole lot. The one fish I caught not sight fishing, I saw the line jump when the fish thumped it just after it hit the water (flippin' a dock). I know I need to fish them more to get better, but the lake I fish the most is a real muddy bottom. Gotta find the right setup.

    • @williambannister1127

    • @5280Bassin
      @5280Bassin 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +William Bannister yeah mine is really clear (6' is the norm, sometimes 15'+ isn't unheard of. Mostly a mud bottom and very thick vegetation. Once the weeds recede some it will probably be better. There is a riprap dam, and a couple sandy areas but not a lot. Some sticks, stumps, etc.

    • @williambannister1127
      @williambannister1127 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      My lake on a nice sunny calm day i could easily see 20-25 foot down. Mostly rock bottom not alot of thick vegetation some areas are about 15 with think vegetation. I like bomb the jig out far and drag it back or ill flip boat docks or swim platforms in a bay. I got small and large mouth in my lake so i can catch smallies deep and shallow and largemouth i can get around docks

    Can't catch with a jig, I have been using them for 2 seasons with only one unsucessful bite, this week I used them bank fishing in 3 sessions for a combined total of 27 hrs worth of effort and not a single bite, my cousin was fishing the same spot as me with plastic worms and getting at least 4 bass per session.........I am not giving up because for some reason I just love jigs, even though they don't produce I am convinced it is worth the effort to figure them out.
    Can you make some suggestions that may help me figure out my problem?
    I used them with and without craw trailer.
    I both hop and drag them.
    I target both weeds and rocks.
    And I do well in these places with worms.
    So what can it be? I am getting frustrated, my cousin is hounding me to give up the jigs says they must not work in michigan, either that or the videos are just made to sell jigs and they are somehow rigged.

      You’ve gotta use a trailer bud. Try 3” or 4” Berkeley Powercraw or old school Uncle Josh pork trailer.
      Edit: you are using trailer. I’d suggest jigs in the brown color range. Black/blue so popular, but I don’t know why. Browns much more natural.

      Try slowing it down and not making too big of movements with the bait or rod tip. In that clear water, a finesse approach is needed.
