Requiring TPM 2.0 doesn't make much sense as long as you're not trying to use Bit-Locker, which most people never use unless your system is a corporate laptop. I've never used (or trusted) Bit-Locker on any of my systems ever. Last thing I want is to encrypt my hard drive and then have Microsoft screw up the key management so suddenly I can't get back to my data anymore. And they wonder why we don't trust Copilot or Recall!
If I want to encrypt something, I WILL CONTROL MY OWN KEYS! I won't leave it to a piece of hardware that could fail, or someone could steal! And I won't leave my keys in the cloud, controlled by someone else!
Same here 4 of them . Even have a laptop that passes all test except for the CPU and Microsloth still says "Sorry no can do" I installed Ubuntu on it as a Plex server.
If you just simply download a Windows 11 image file from the Microsoft website and rather than using Microsoft’s own media creation tool to burn it to a bootable USB drive and use a tool called Rufus, you can remove the requirement for TPM and a PC with a core to duo will boot windows 11 That requirement was always a cash grab to force people to upgrade their hardware. But like always, there’s a way around the corporations greediness
TPM 1.2 is a pretty good system, but they (tinfoil hat time) likely want to lock you into their new AI system and somehow harvest your data (or your profile/trend group) they can then monetize. Functionally, the W11 features really don't need the latest hardware. At least not like when you upgraded from Win95 to 98, it was obvious the hardware was being used to the new capabilities. This is all a monetization play somehow. It's not like I need or even want Bitlocker drive encryption on my personal machine. I encrypt my sensative data with Veracrypt because I don't trust MS if there's a crash.
I am not trusting Microsoft with my data, still on local account. why would i trust them for my security?! i always used 3rd party security software and i don't plan on changing that.
@@WCT they always think people will start going to Linux, but it never happens. Maybe if they were more willing to pay for it, more developers would code for it. 🤷🏻♂️

They just want you to upgrade your PC, it's to make money. They also want more control over your PC.
Minimum Requirements SHOULD be: This will JUST ABOUT manage to run Windows, but will be a slug, especially when you install some apps. Add more powerful components to suit your needs. Just like it worked before Windows 11!
However, Microsoft won't necessary extend Windows 10 support, and probably may continue to push further it wants (Not what we want like it used to). Microsoft use to extend support for previous version of Windows due to lack of populations for a latest version (Windows XP and Vista are one of them).
started using windows 11 on my spare unsupported laptop soon after it was released i updated it from Windows 10 pro just wanted to see if it would work after using the TPM bypass. never had any issues everything works as it should and updates normally
I recently downgraded to Windows 10, then I downgraded more and went to Mac. I need a break from Windows. I’m full of Windows updates for now. I just can’t. Are they total idiots in Microsoft? I think yes.
Yes should part of the Windows installer 11, If it see no TPM or the CPU is to old, it should just give you a warning about do you want to continue install of Windows 11 without enhance security.
Microsoft have turned your computing device into a store/trading device for 'apps' and that calls for all the compulsory security. None of these are new though, only it was just up to you to decide what level of security you needed, and implementing some of those needed manual configs and you just had to be a little more tech savvy.
It's not just the TPM 2.0, but also the CPU that gives the biggest problems. From 7th gen and lower from Intel and AMD lower than ZEN 1 or ZEN 2 with the TPM 2.0 are already written off before they are properly tested by Microsoft. I also don't have the money to pay for 1 pc, 1 laptop with Windows 11. So Microsoft is slowly going through a big sinkhole from which they can no longer dig themselves. I am curious how they are going to get out of this.
unlike some i dont care for bitlocker and fact they say its secure.. yeah to lock people from the data with that forced, and yeah fact that ltsc does not need this just shows what is considered secure to consumers vs a corp use case if its so secure then corporations should also be forced not just us, so something strange about this requirement
So, in order to run bitlocker, something I don't even use in Windows, or any other security feature, I need TPM 2.0? Weird because I only use my Windows PC for third party applications, Steam, GOG, EA games, and a couple Xbox games, and web browsing. Hell I don't even use the new start menu. I changed the menu back to windows 10 look as well. Why? Why do I need TPM 2.0? The only reason I am on Windows 11 is because I'm tired of Windows 11 being pushed non stop, there was no off or opt out button. So annoying.
TPM is for forced bitlocker encryption, that is already forced on new installs and MS can force and turn on at any time on existing installs. Basically exactly like ransomware. I do not want ransomware on my computer, sorry.
All this aside. Hackers have announced that they have broken Microsofts authorization system and will release information shortly. They claim it is fairly easy to do and there is nothing that Microsoft can do to counter it. What good is a secure boot going to do when your whole key based system is compromised ? Imagine never having to purchase any Microsoft product going forward when you can create "keys" anytime you want.
If you don't like tpm2.0 don't use Windows any more. Microsoft needs to be VERY careful. There are far too many other options out there. Apple has a walled garden too. If you want absolute control grab a linux distro. Microsoft isn't the only game in town anymore.
well look at it this way a lot of people will not be able to run windows 11 because they do not meet the necessary requirement and trust me not everyone is willing as a matter of fact i would say most are not willing to get a new pc just too get windows 11.
There's no step backwards if you consider that most would be upgraders are coming from Windows 10 and already not using it or need it. This is just creating a mountain of e-waste for no good reason.
How does a TPM make my PC secure beyond serving as a key store for Bitlocker or password storage? Are you getting jumped by a hacker in a dark alleyway, having to specifically give up your hard drive or getting shot?
Linux will run without TPM2.0 so if you really want to run your old hardware then look there.
Their LTSC doesn't require it wtf? Microsoft is lying
Microsoft is a piece a liar.
I don't blame you, that's why I switched to Ubuntu officially.
Sometimes using SteamOS from my Steam Deck.

Resume: To make more money, indirectly seeling more OEMs keys and directly by people buying more "traditional" keys.
It's all about the Benjamins.
My old 12 core dual xeon workstation with 128g ddr4 and 2 nvmes is going to Linux ville.
I used to have a skylake processor which had tmp, and MS still wouldn't support it!

They did it already...3 years ago.

No it's fine

I think it's a corrupt action to boost hardware sales of their fellow large corporations that sell hardware.

Truth: They require more money. Totally understandable. I always thow an overload of it in the trash can anyway.
I have to turn TPM and Secure Boot off to run my Linux drive. Mind explaining that MS?
0Patch software will do the job from October 2025 for at least 5 years to maintain Windows 10 and PC stays in my study rather than going to crusher.

The average user won't do a clean install of Windows or Linux, so all these security features make it harder to change anything.
Microsoft wants to make Windows more safe and secure and I think one of the US government agencies also requires it
It's as simple as this, to make more money to sell more windows computers
Really? I'll be using a virtual copy of Windows 10 for the rest of time. Windows 7 is cool too.
I'll be on Win10 until my current computers fail. I see no need to go to 11 for any reason

Even my old alienware 17 r4 has tpm. Most users have it.
Also my 2014 hp laptop have tpm 2.0
yes while this is true not every computer has tmp 2.0
No they don't.
Yeah but their CPUs may not pass the test.
i would like a TPM which would stop Microsoft tampering with my PC.
