  • Getting back around to finishing up the transmission. I'll be installing all the shifter parts and sealing up the housing ready for it to be bolted to the bell housing and mated to the engine... whenever that happens. :)

I hope you tested the shift mechanism to make sure the selector rods and forks worked properly, before putting the gear cases together.

Just curious as to why not do a manual swap considering that the 3.0 is much more efficient paired with the 5spd?

when someone asks you how a gearbox works, just tell them its witchcraft, witchcraft powers the selection of the gears lol

How did you learn how to do this?

I've torn apart many gearboxes in my life. Anything from RC car gearboxes when I was a kid, to appliance gearboxes when things broke, to cement truck gearboxes for work. They are all basically the same thing. A few shafts, some bearings, a couple gears and maybe a shift assembly. Most of what I've learned comes from what already exists. I do know how to design a gear mesh to meet specific requirements, but I didn't learn about gearboxes by designing them. I learn to design them by taking others apart. If you're curious I recommend buying an AXIAL AX2 RC crawler 2 speed transmission for $60 and take it apart and put it back together. You'll learn good basic concepts of transmissions from a small expense. From there its all the same thing, just bigger.
