I honestly never knew that people hated/disliked this trilogy. Maybe as a kid you don't see the flaws of a game, but the story, and finally the coop, made me like this games even more than the og trilogy
Alot of people grew up with clasic Spyro, and didn't like the shift in tone, or the fact that the series was a reboot. Myself included.
@@agsilverradio2225 Yeah, i see not many Spyro fans like try new thinks. Like they hate everything new spyro related they get. Ok enter the dragonfly hate i get, but cmoon, tlos and skylanders series (even tought i dont call it spyro game) arent that bad as their own things.
I was one of the producers and writers on TLoS trilogy. Definitely took our fair share of criticism but it’s great to see so many people expressing appreciation for it so many years later. We had a tiny tiny budget but those of us involved poured our hearts into it. Thanks for the video!
Wow! This has got to be one of the coolest comments i've ever received! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment! The team did so well in crafting an incredible game, especially given budget limitations. Can absolutely see how passionate the team was behind this game, and you guys absolutely made my childhood/teen years with Spyro!
Thanks for all you guy's hard work. You made a great trilogy I love playing to this day because I still have my PS2.
I'm a little tired of hearing people compare these to the old games. Theyre pretty much a completely different games. The Legend of Spyro trilogy was an amazing experience for me as a kid. I'll always put these games up there with Battlefront 2 in terms of quality and impact on my childhood.
Fun fact GOW3 was made after DAWN OF THE DRAGON so some of the stuff in GOW3 was actually inspired by DOTD granted it was the other way around for the 1st 2 games but GOW3 changed its art style a bit to look like DOTD especially the architecture GOW4 also kinda reminds me of dante's freezar including the enemies
I loved this game. Gary Oldman as Ignitus and Elijah Wood as Spyro were perfect casting choices for a story that was meant to reach a maturing audience and bring us into a new era of gaming and storytelling for Spyro. And doing us dirty with Skylanders is putting is mildly. I wanted a prequel game that featured the Dragon Guardians, giving us a look at the mentors and showing us Malefor's descent into darkness. This series was rich with lore, good combat mechanics, solid character development, and just a dynamite performance from every voice actor credited. It was the game that along with Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, truly allowed me to embrace being a gamer after years of just tagging along with my brother and our friends. And I loved showing off the Valley of Avalar level to my mom, who at that point was just convinced that most video games were devolving into senseless gorefests, which gave me chances to hangout with her during a time in my life where my folks and I were becoming more distant. And that love of artful fantasy, good storytelling, and maturing themes and artwork served as the foundation for my relationship with my parents as an adult going forward after several complicated years.
God, that was a monologue. But yeah. This game is an underrated gem and I think it deserves a remastering!
Haha thank you for that monologue! Really appreciate it and your passion for the series!
So glad to hear that this game was able to be used to strengthen the bond with your family! So awesome to hear
@@PixelShaun, always happy to overshare the benefits that fiction in various media has brought to my life!
@@PixelShaun I’m gonna point out there’s a lot of plot armor in the game, especially at the ends of the catacombs level. Just no way he’d pull Cynder free not without help. It’s just plot armor at its finest XD I make a lot of arguments.
This was my second favorite spyro game. We use to play this with my little brother a lot. I have been thinking to play this game again.
(Those of wandering: my favorite is Spyro: Year of the dragon)
Dawn of the dragon is to this day my favorate game of all time, I know it might not be the "best" game, but it's still brilliant and I adore it. I had this game on my PS2 when I was young and would play it with my father, I didn't really understand what was happenning, but I loved it. Sadly though, I got stuck on the burned lands because I couldn't overcome the two grublin generals even with my father's help. I got stuck on that segmant for so long that my PS2 broke, and for a long time, that was that. It must have been nine or more years before I found the game again and learned it was on PS3. I ended up paying £80 for it and finally playing it again, I got stuck on that same section for a little while, before finally overcoming it. And that same day, I finally defeated Malefor in a battle 10 years in the making. Since then I've 100% the game on every save file, including once in five hours, not exactly a speedrun leaderboard but impressive for me. I adore this game with everything I have and it is truly an underrated gem.
I Love this game since I'm a HUGE Fan of the LEgend of spyro trilogy. and I Ship Spyro and Cynder. Also I Love Cynder's Design/Voice in that game
I still after all these years feel like this game deserves another chance. It gave me the most of what I loved about the series in the first place, everything I wanted from it, and things I didn't even know I wanted. For something that was both underfunded and undercooked it is really impressive how far they managed to get in this regard. And I know it's flawed, but it has a premise I want to breathe.
I hope that this franchise (or even a spiritual successor) would ditch the old goofy platforming formula and charge boldly ahead. I'm not talking M-rated like some OG fanboys would think me saying (Though it could also be good depending on execution). I'm talking about a dragon power fantasy for the history books (preferably teen rated for narrative balance purposes). True free flight and freeflow combat both with speed, power, and verticality. Something that can be compared to getting off a tricycle and mounting a flying motorbike.
I also feel like the elemental powers though fun to use and mix already could still take it a leap further. Organizing between charged/quick breath projectiles to RB/R1 and continuous ones slotted in RT/R2. Also, various sub-abilities could be applied by either holding or tapping the face buttons while using the basic breath abilities. For example, while breathing continuous fire normally, holding circle could turn the fire into a sentient serpent that could fight by your side (inspired off the concept art). Using abilities such as remote detonated fire traps or electric orbs could also open up new opportunities. For example, if a mage enemy was charging up a lightning ball in their hands, you could detonate it for an advantage and a good laugh. And if you wanted the coating abilities such as the boulder armour and shadow cloak to stay, again, still possible. You could have RB/R2 be held while shielding, and still be able to use sub-abilities. Blocking would not interrupt the charging of a projectile as that can be launched post-defence. The list goes on.
The list of possibilities gets longer when you consider more melee options too (as if having an ability that would be Arkham City's beatdown before even Arkham Asylum). for example, pressing circle to grab could lead into many lead-up possibilities. Imagine pressing circle again to quickly throw enemies (People will say 'yeet' a lot). And what if you could disarm enemies of their weapons and shields after a grab (Circle, triangle) and even steal their weapons for your own use (Circle, hold triangle), even pick them off the ground (Square and X), and use them until they break, or even straight-up break their weapons with your teeth Saitama style (Hold circle while being attacked), or break off their armour and helmets. Then there is parrying to think about. A perfect triple parry could deflect projectiles back at enemies using your wings in a smooth movement that looks like a graceful dance. The list goes on.
As for traversal, I think it would be safe to use fast-paced traversal in this day and age (and especially welcome since vast open worlds are the new norm). A speed boosting ability to get you where you need to go fast both in the air and on the ground, automatic wall-running to prevent interruptions via collision, floating islands to visit, that high speed ability mixed in with jumping and diving to reach new heights and depths. Again, the list of possibilities goes on. I remember that supercharge was a thing in the original games but it was limited to certain segments and met with its share of inconveniences. Imagine if you could do it on command with more versatility and speed than previously imagined, then you could have entire new combat encounter types such as dogfights and road rages. Again, the list goes on.
I know this sounds very ambitious, but I've had years to think about this and look at various inspiration material. And I could go on and on about these. These games despite their flaws have people with and without rose-tinted glasses (Though mostly without) still remember these fondly for good reasons. It lacked resource and time, but it evidently had vision and passion.
Great video subbed. just wanted to point out God of war didn't invent its combat it was inspired by devil may cry. I love spyro and it is one of the best ps2 games that I have played
I really like The Legend of Spyto trilogy and specially this one.
If this one had to be the last, Im really glad that they made it the way it is, huge, fresh, cinematic and unforgetable.
Hopefully the new Gen 4 Spyro could be a combination of both
Reignited Spyro and Dawn Of The Dragon Spyro
Where Gen 4 Spyro Design reflects from Reignited Spyro
But Gen 4 Spyro has his wings to be as large as Dawn Of The Dragon Spyro
So Spyro can keep His Ability To Fly
Anytime Any Level Without Limitations
But with New Rewarding Challenges
Boss Battles & Upgradeable Qualities
That should be Researched Invented
& Hopefully in the new
SPYRO 4
Dawn Of The Dragon Spyro looked sloppy
On how he was moving his body while flying
so it shows more results why New but effective
Measures should take place in SPYRO 4 and to
Level Up Spyro’s Popularity as well
Agreed! There needs to be a bit of a mix and a real look into the franchise to solidify public interest back into the franchise for new audiences.
Being year of the dragon, hopefully we get something this year!
All the more reasons why we need the community to help us so we should show them that @@PixelShaun
Best way to describe cynder is...bestie:)
😮this channel is criminally underrated
Thanks so much! Really appreciate your comment !
This was my all time favorite Spyro game. It made good use of the Wii mechanics. I still get it out and play sometimes.
Haha that's so good to hear you still play it! It's a fantastic game
I'm more of a clasic Spyro fan. I personally find the combat in Legends tedious.
I like that DotD has co-op thoguh.
Why does everyone hate on one of the 3 games in the trilogy? I like all 3 of them. Also, Spyro was done dirty in Skylanders.
I am a fan of The legend of The Spyro games.
I mean regardless of the plot armor at the end of the catacombs level imo (arguably he wouldn’t have been able to pull Cynder free from the golems hand without help) the game was good, had many scenarios where malefor arguably would have won, that’s just my view and arguments.
I love spyro
i am VERY confused by this video title... and noticed YOU DIDN'T TALK ABOUT THE CLASSIC SPYRO GAMES or Spyro Reignited ya know the remake of the PS1 OG classic's thats not legend of spyro, when Reignited is the Last GREAT Spyro game at least for now
The remakes were fantastic....but they were remakes of older games. This was, in my opinion, the last great spyro game. As in the latest entry into thr spyro franchise that was fantastic, and also wasn't a remake of a previous older title.
Eternal night was the most enjoyable spyro game out of the 3 in my opinion. Specifically because you needed to mix up your moves/elements constantly to have an easy time with your enemies during combat, and could lead to insane combos, while also posing as a challenge. A new beginning and dawn of the dragon had more boring combat in my opinion where you just spammed to win.
Only reason why people thinks eternal night was so much more difficult is because they thought they could get away with the same stuff they did in new beginning and they paid for it.
Spamming basic attacks is the last thing you wanna do in eternal nights if you wanna have an easy time. Instead combine tons of different moves/elements together to blast away those enemies. That is what makes eternal night so much more fun than the others.
Dawn of the dragon had the enjoyable flight and puzzles that came with it, but in terms of combat eternal night is easily the best out of them all.
Just gonna correct something: The new beginning and dawn of the dragon was not really boring in combat, but Eternal night was just so much better.
Good video but I don't think you went into a lot of detail and got a few things wrong 👍
Good comment but you didn't go into a lot of detail about what was glossed over and what I got wrong 👍
The last great Spyro game? What about Skylanders?
Someone didn't watch the video...
my favourite spyro game is skylanders
😬😬 sorry to hear
(Just joking)
XD this games made my childhood
Sorry but SKYLANDER'S ISN'T A SPYRO GAME, it's not Spyro at all he was just a Name used to slap onto the title and sell the "Skylander's IP"
@@zoruathefoxyeah if we don't see all the references from skylanders to spyro and the spyro references to skylanders
@@machincort it's not a Spyro game... Just because He's in it doesn't mean it is, a Spyro game would focus and Centre around Spyro
I dislike DOD. The first two are brilliant while the third feels like a generic fantasy GOW clone. You had an entire playstyle refined throughout two games only to throw it all away and try to be like GOW. Before anyone says nostalgia, I only had that for A New Beginning. I replayed through all three recently(2 and 3 the first time all the way through) Eternal Night is the best followed by A New Beginning. For those who enjoyed this game while I wouldn't say I liked it, I'm glad for you, I appreciate the devs for trying to go in a different direction. It was a terrible idea as the combat and platforming were good in the first two games. The flight mechanics could have paired well with the system in place. The character designs look like an uncanny valley not looking right especially with Spyro. The combat becomes a mindless beat 'em up rather than having to work for victories. The abilities of Spyro feel weak and bland as well. I had high hopes for the final installment of the trilogy going straight into it after Eternal Night but was disappointed. I'm glad this community is still around to talk about these games and that there are fans of all three games. While negative I did like Malefor, flying(while being janky), and the giant boss was a nice setpiece.
At least DOTD Cynder looks better than TEN Cynder
I love spyro
