  • This is MAPPA's anime adaptation of "Shingeki no Kyojin".
Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season - Kanketsu-hen / Attack on Titan: Final Season - The Final Chapters
In the wake of Eren Yeager's cataclysmic actions, his friends and former enemies form an alliance against his genocidal rampage. Though once bitter foes, Armin Arlert, Mikasa Ackerman, and the remaining members of the Scout Regiment join forces with Reiner Braun and the survivors of the Marleyan military. Their meager united front sets out on a mission to stop Eren's wrath and-if possible-save their old comrade in the process.
As Eren pushes forward at any cost, he battles his own internal turmoil. Although he feels immense remorse over his horrific invasion, Eren believes he harbors noble intentions: he believes the path ahead is the only way to save his friends and, to a greater extent, his people.
The opposing battalions spiral toward an inevitable final clash that may claim the lives of millions. Though they face an army of monsters beyond anything they could have previously imagined, Mikasa, Armin, and their allies stand brave in the face of certain doom.

@@YellowJacketC Its not Jean its Armin, well to be fair its not easy to tell. In the manga for example its heavily indicated that Mikasa ended up dying as pure/virgin and she never had biological kids. Isayama the author of attack on titan showed a lot of his signature sings/foreshadowings of this being probably the truth. I mean her just wearing that dirty and smelly scarf still even after her death, is somewhat of a big proof that she never got over Eren.

For anyone curious about the manga’s version of the ending, it mostly plays out the same way. The key differences are the dialogues which have been extended and refine more in the anime, starting with the conversation between Eren and Armin in the path, and then there’s the visual difference that changes the meaning of the epilogue. In the manga, the future setting was close to ours, with modern skyscrapers and all. Since AOT technically takes place in the WW1 era, pretty much only a century has passed. Readers hated this because it shows that Eren and everyone else’s effort were in vain in protecting Paradise Island, and that the prejudice against them still exists and was the reason why the island was blown to bits.
In the anime, the future setting is far more futuristic, creating a sense that the destruction of the island has nothing to do with Eldians’ history, for it was too long in the past that the modern day people don’t feel attached to it any longer. So this makes it feel like Eren did succeed in protecting his love ones, and proved his point about the human condition. The only thing he could do was to delay the inevitable so far into the future that it was worth it.

I frankly would have preferred if they went with the manga’s modern day ending.
In history, time and again great sacrifices ultimately amount to nothing. People die noblest of death only to achieve virtually nothing in the end.
      That would be realistic.

It’s the only ending it could have given. The author made it that way. Eren was never a freedom fighter. He never analyzed who were being oppressed and who were the oppressors. Eren had a child understanding of revenge and was a genocidal maniac. Eren never went to go change the system to create a better world. The system that has created the violence was never changed though out the story. It was only changed from whom is doing the violence. It’s a very stupid and simplistic way of looking at the world. He never teamed up with the oppressed and fought for a better future. The author truly on gave one solution to the readers. A solution that was doomed to fail. With the authors political analysis I can understand why it’s written like that tho. Terrible anime/story. It had potential in the beginning but got worse.

@@GAME-HAZIQ I don’t think you read my comment properly then if you think I wanted eren to talk his way into world peace. But eren was not fighting for freedom. He was fighting to rewind the clock. Rewinding the clock does not change anything the clock will just repeat the same movement. He didn’t push for systemic change. When he saw eldians being used as weapons of war he didn’t try to free them he saw them as traitors. He didn’t analyze why they were pushed to do certain actions. Eren had an “us vs them” attitude where anybody outside of Eldia was an enemy. He didn’t push to liberate his fellow oppressed people but instead become the new oppressor by genocide groups everyone else. Eren had this mindset throughout the entire story. Very one dimensional in my opinion. I would even say through erens actions the world was left in a worse state than before. Violence happens a lot. It’s important to know that humans aren’t built for violence either. We as humans are easily physically/mentally hurt. Even the smallest of conflicts leave deep scares into people.
Human nature cannot be simplified down to one word. We are not just greedy, violent, selfish beings. That’s a very static way of looking at life. Humans aren’t one dimensional. I don’t have a problem with sad endings or sad stories. I don’t care if the ending was 100 times worse or better. I don’t like stories say one thing but do another. It was just a bad story that had potential but only got worse as it went along.

As Even after all Titans are Dead, Humanity still continued to Go at War at another... when Eren fought to Gain their Freedom back of "No longer being in a Cage"

    A few fun facts:
    1) Eren didn't open his eyes during rumbling, he opened his eyes in his last breath just to see Mikasa
    2) Mikasa wrote “Here forever rest peacefully, my most beloved, my dear. 854” on Eren’s grave. The first two times Mikasa visits Eren’s grave she put four roses which means nothing will come between two people who love each other but cannot be together / tragic love. The last time she put one rose which means “you are still THE one".
3)A white flower was placed during her death, which symbolizes purity and virginity. So, taken together, Mikasa's flowers send the message that she won't forget Eren, she still loves him (but believes he can no longer love her back), she will remain devoted to him, and she is waiting.
4)They spent 4 years living together in Paths (ch. 138) And only when he “passed away” there, was she able to kill him in the real world. (it was a gift to them from Ymir)
5)In the ending credits where Eren and Mikasa were buried, an old man Armin still visiting their graves. He was the last to die from the trio, just like when they were kids running to the tree, he was the last one who reaches the tree.

Could the ending have been better? Yeah, but it's not terrible and has some value.
I like this part in particular because it shows the endless cycle of conflict in life and puts things into perspective. No matter how big the catastrophe is and how hard you fight to change the world, you die in the end and life goes on.
Everyone who saw the horror of war and the rumbling are gone and forgotten and humanity continues the same mistakes. The boy at the end will gain the titans power no doubt and will probably start off with good intentions just like Eren did.... Just like in real life, there is truly nothing new under the sun.
I do wish that the ending of the series was different, but I would want this part to stay in. Attack on Titan's MAIN themes has always been about the horror of war and it's cycles. The series ending with Eren under the same tree from the beginning is also symbolic that theme.
I'd love to get a sequel to see how things play out for the kid in the post-apocalypse. Like how far will he fall trying to help humanity?

Uploader really put this one together beautifully - I'm not a huge AOT fan but the imagery in this scene really hits home
Especially replacing the original soundtrack with this minimalistic yet emotional piano piece does it for me, since to me it is somewhat reminiscent of something Joe Hisaishi would write - combine that with the visuals of the decaying remains of the city and nature taking back what was taken from it gives me that Nausicaa / Castle in the Sky Vibes

The fact that Eren went through all of this, went into the past/future multiple times to try and find a different solution. Knowing that if he didn’t strike first, then the Marleyans/the world would be the ones to go forward with the genocide of the Eldians and the destruction of his home on paradis. It really hits home, when he was begging and pleading with hange and armin to give him another solution that he couldn’t find himself. Either he runs away with mikasa and lets his people die or he saves his people and becomes the monster the entire world fears. Even then, he tells armin even after everything is said and done, this conflict will never end. Humanity’s want for power will never end, but atleast he can give his friends/people a chance to live longer lives.

At 01:53 you can see the parasite at the bottom left as the boy goes inside EREN'S TREE
I think the post credit scenes delicts a new cycle of attack on titan. The boy walking into the tree must be similar to the founder Ymir. This scene is almost identical to the scene of Ymir walking into the tree and getting the power of titans from that parasite.
If that is true, there must have been someone similar to Eren before Ymir in the past, who tried to change the world but failed to do so and got buried by a loved one like Mikasa.
After that, that someone must have been morphed into a parasite (the original powerful form of titan) and Ymir must have gained her powers by the parasite.
This shows that humanity can never live by without fighting and decimating each other, and how insignificant their (Eren's) efforts are.

will never understand the hate over this ending it perfectly captures the reality of the world we live in. Makes it so obvious that people hate it when reality is shoved into their faces like this. I mean I must agree it was a bit rushed and full of plot holes yet it was an overall amazing message.
wars will happen, people will discriminate one another over “beliefs” and everyone will fight for their own freedom, they will reach their own happy ending in a way, fulfill their own desires in life in the peace they have earned through hard work and, die. But humanity does not stay still and is in constant state of progress, the lives of those who have achieved their own peace and their ideal free world will be pursued in that peace and come to an end eventually. new people will come and progress and along with those new conflicts, new wars, new views, new ideal worlds.
Achieving complete peace in world is impossible because humanity never has and will never learn, greed, selfishness and their desire to exterminate anything and anyone who does not fit with their world view will always win over the good of their hearts, they will try erasing history and spreading false information about a certain group of people they don’t like to spread hate for them thus resulting in wars and battles. That’s why every human and each era is responsible of their own freedom, their own happiness and their own peace since our history and our current state clearly says that peace is not a permanent thing, one day everyone who has seen first hand how that peace was so hard earned will die and new people will come. This is the sad truth of our world and its my first time seeing it being told with such honesty in a media. Thats what makes AOT so beautiful. Also what Eren has done wasn’t in vain considering he wanted his friends to live happy long lives free of the threat of titans, and he succeeded in the end

How can a simple talk add so much depth to the series. "Promise me you'll throw the scarf away when I'm gone". She never threw it away. She kept it with her forever, she remembered him for her whole life. She still kind of a slave to her love for Eren. However, she's different from Ymir. Ymir's love was a nightmare. Mikasa, on the other hand, ended her own nightmare - and her lover's nightmare - and went to live a calm and normal life, even if she never really found thorough peace with it...
Is the bird trying to remove the scarf, or set the scar properly around her neck?

At least Eren made sure his friends live a long and peaceful life, and the world maintained peace long enough to develop into 22nd century. Although humans will always find reasons to kill each other, he broke, or at least halted, the cycle for maybe 200 years, long enough for several generations to enjoy peace. Ironically, he achieved this by sacrificing 80% of humanity population, an extremely cruel but effective measure.

I'm only 2 years into Attack on Titan, yet I can't explain how much I'm gonna miss this. Thank you Hajime Isayama, Wit, MAPPA and Everyone who gave us this masterpiece of an anime. The void that ending had left in my heart can never be filled. I wish it never ended. It will always be my favourite anime. SHINZO WO SASAGEYO ✊.

Same... i also started it 2 years age during covid and since then it has remained my favourite, at first i thought its similar to other shonen anime, but no this anime is so deep, and the best part is that this anime didnt take any sides, there's no good and evil, every character here had different motives and opinions shown beautifully and each one of them was fighting for it..... the creative presentation, the attention to details, the clever foreshadowing --- everything was done so perfectly by Isayama..... i will definitely binge watch this series atleast once every year

    Such a bittersweet moment.
One last night with the whole fandom together.
No other story has impacted me the way AoT did. It changed my view in storytelling.
Its world, its characters & the journey they went through will be forever engraved in my soul.
    I'll cherish this forever.
See you later, Shingeki No Kyojin.

I got into this series back in 2013 I think? Hard to believe that its over. Ngl I legit thought this was going to be up there with like One piece and Naruto and just keep going. I'm satisfied with this ending. Its realistic, bittersweet and satisfying. Its def the end of a era for me. Thanks for all the memories. Even tho I didn't keep up with this series consistently, it'll always have a special place in my heart.

Remember Eren said to Mikasa in season 2 ?? He will wrap that scarf around her as many as she want. Forever as much as she want. He always kept her promise till he die. He wrap the scarf around her once last moment just like he did when they met each other while they were kids. The scarf that he gave her, make sure that she feel safe and always be with her till the end. That hit me so hard 😢😢
