POV snow storm photography | is the Sigma 24 - 70mm weather proof?

  • Collingwood Part III. In this episode I'm headed out for a walk around the neighborhood to capture some photos in a snow storm! I get a little fixated on the street lamps that resemble the one from Narnia.
This also gives me a good opportunity to test the weather proofing in both the Sony a7iv and the sigma 24 - 70mm.
I definitely suggest using a UV filter in situations like this to protect the lens element... from the elements.
Hope you enjoy this chill episode, leave a like comment and subscribe if you enjoyed! Thanks for watching.

Congrats on hitting an even 500 subscribers.
We got a little bit of snow overnight, but not nearly as much as you have, and work prevents me from getting out with the camera anyway. I think it was about 11 years ago that I went out at night to get some photos of the snow in the neighborhood and nearby. It was an interesting outing since the snow really made it brighter out with just the street lights.

      Thank you!
I was thinking it would be awesome to go back out in the snow once it was dark... then I realized it was 40 minutes after sunset already at the end of this video but just like you said, the snow really helped brighten everything up with the city lights around!

I'm running with that exact setup. Good to know it handles the snow. I'd still like to get the 200-600 or even the 70-200. I've always done more video stuff than photos over the last few years but have always been interested in shooting more pics.

I started with photos, now I’ve been fully addicted to learning all about video!
The 70-200 would be amazing. I find myself wanting a little more zoom and compression for my style of landscape photography.

@@CurtisSnapshot yeah the editing has been fun learning about for sure. DaVinci took a bit to get the hang of but once you get the basics it all starts making sense lol I’m thinking of the new Sigma 60-600mm too but I might want a faster lens in the wider spectrum

@@VincentGilligan aside from that lens being a little slower at the wide end, I’m super interested!

@@CurtisSnapshot I’ll get a chance tomorrow to have one in hand. Sigma has a rep with a few of their new lenses at one of the local stores. Should give me an idea if I like the feel.

Does moisture get trapped inside when you extend and contract the lens

That’s something I was very worried about. I have taken this lens out in similar conditions plenty of times now, no moisture has became trapped in the lens yet.
I dry the barrel as much as I can then leave it out to dry with the barrel fully extended.
