    Thank you, David, this is very helpful. Please, In addition to your take on grounded theory and phenomenology, can you advise what methodology best suits mental health research concerning its effects on children? I intend to use a constructivist paradigm. My initial choice for methodology is Phenonemnlogy(Transadental) using IPA for data analysis, but I am sceptical about what best suits this kind of research. To be clear, my possible research questions would be, " What is the school performance of children raised by parents with mental disorders in Nigeria? OR
    (2) What are the developmental (School Performance)and health outcomes (hospital visit, health intervention routines) of children who experienced being raised by parents with mental disorders in Nigeria? I would be delighted to read your views and great opinion. Thank you, Sir.

      I'd encourage you to become familiar with all the literature on children raised by parents with mental disorders. This will help you better formulate a research strategy. Since you're looking at school-related outcomes, you might want to consider a quantitative approach.

    I watched your video and I found it very helpful for me. May I pls ask what a cross analysis is in a phenomenological study?

    • @DavidDunaetz
      @DavidDunaetz  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with the expression "cross analysis." Perhaps you mean "cross-case analysis"? Or "cross-cultural analysis"?

    Case study and phenomenology explanation sound the same. Can u further explain the difference?

    • @DavidDunaetz

      In the case study, you're getting all your data from a single occurrence of a phenomenon. In a phenomenological study, you're studying many different instances of the phenomenon to draw out general principles.

    I study a small company, and their knowledge sharing with downstream partners. Would it be possible to mix a case study with phenomenology. My idea is that i want to understand the specific experience that this company has with knowledge sharing with partners. If that makes sense?

    • @DavidDunaetz
      @DavidDunaetz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's definitely possible to mix approaches, especially in a professional setting. In academic settings, it might be discouraged because of sacrifices in quality that might be made. If you're in an academic setting, be sure to check with your professor or advisor.

    Hi! Good day! My teacher ask us to do a research about "Challenges,profits and experiences of small enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic " what type of qualitative research is applicable to it? Phenomenological?

    • @DavidDunaetz
      @DavidDunaetz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before you the choose the research method, you need to clarify your research question. What is the goal of your research? What question are you trying to answer? Then you can choose an appropriate research approach (which will probably be phenomenological).

    Hi. Thank you for a detailed information. I want to ask one thing. I am working on investigating the role of Human Resource (HR) practices in employment of disabled people in UK. I aim to get data from multiple organizations in terms of in-depth interviews and semi-structured interviews. I am confused. Is it a case study (collective case study) or what? Can u please guide me?

    • @DavidDunaetz
      @DavidDunaetz  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what the purpose of the study is.
      Are you trying to develop a theory to explain a phenomenon that you've observed? => Grounded theory.
      Are you trying to describe the employment experiences of disabled people in the UK? => Phenomenology
      Do you want to be able to compare what happens in the UK to other countries? => Case study.

    Hi sir, I'm working on my research paper right now which is the lived experience of non essential business amidst this pandemic, is it right to use phenomenology as a research design and an IPA for data analysis? Hope I can get an answer, new subscriber here, thank you!

    • @DavidDunaetz
      @DavidDunaetz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jane, Phenomenology and IPA sound good. You're basically looking at how people with non-essential businesses experienced the phenomenon of the pandemic.

    can i mix grounded theory with a case study?

    • @DavidDunaetz
      @DavidDunaetz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can, if you have a very strong reason for doing so. Generally, developing a general theory from just one case study isn't as credible as covering a number of occurrences of the phenomena.
