  • A lecture on case studies as a research strategy taken from a series on research methods and research design given to masters (graduate) students by Graham R Gibbs at the University of Huddersfield. This is part 1 of three, and deals with the different kinds of case studies and looks at some key examples from the social sciences such as single cases, community studies and organizations, institutions, events, roles and relationships as cases.

It is so great to hear this kind of presentation because of one simple thing: he remembers every article on the screen by heart and can summarize them in short sentences without effort. That shows you how much he reads and how much he has been able to transformed into his own knowledge. This kind of professor is true scholar.

Thank you for this explanation! I am a communication undergraduate student and was doing a semiotics thesis until my prof told me to change my whole research--including my method--into case study. I need to learn about this method asap and this kinda open my mind to know where to start my thesis. If it's possible, I'd love to know if you (or anybody here) could give me some good reference books especially when it comes to case study in media business/marketing strategy or just case study in general... All I have in the library is written by K. Yin and Creswell but I think I need to read more.. Thanks again and have a great day!
