I personally think Starkiller had to have the potential comparable to Sidious in order to even survive fighting him, even if it was briefer than the game made it seem. Starkiller seems to be far more skilled with force lightning, and under Sidious's guidance, probably could have become even more skilled using force lightning. Now, it was probably also a manipulation tactic, because we do see Palpatine, especially in Force Unleashed is very manipulative to the point he doesn't even hide the fact that his apprentices are just pawns to him.

Starkiller's strength was that he had no limits. Everything he did was always 100%, and he was trained to have the stamina to handle this. Strength in the force comes from a combination of potential, training, and how heavily and often it's used, and Starkiller had a massive advantage in the last category. Despite not necessarily having the same natural potential as is peers, his quirk meant his potency would grow faster and unendingly. In short, I think Sidious was implying that Starkiller was a prodigy like himself and could've been a worthy hier.

he's an interesting character because of his power, skill, struggle, and the wisdom he has gained from his experiences.
he is a Je'daii. the Je'daii of old used the Force without restriction, abilities that the Jedi and Sith claimed that only they could use many years later, were accessible to the Je'daii. this power had to be earned, however. the various experiences they had, reflecting on said experiences would bring them wisdom, that wisdom becoming a whetstone for their power.
Galen "Starkiller" Marek, and Luke Skywalker became Je'daii because of these things.

Okay but when he mentioned that out load to Galen/SK/Sith Stalker in that alternate darkside ending there was no need to lie at that point it is not like he was using Juno or his family against him in that line all he said was that he had such promise defiantly much greater then Suited Anakin/Vader did which few did it is just like how when Sidious said Darth Vader would become more powerful then Yoda And himself he clearly meant in force power and potential before the Mustafar hang ups Galen as a child was noted by Vader to be currently more powerful then his much older father much more powerful even so if that is how powerful Galen was as a child even enough to snatch with telekenesis Vaders lightsaber out of his grip which had never been done before until that point just imagine what he would of been like as he grew and gained his full potential plus Sidious wanted Galen to kill Vader once Vader was beaten there just like he wanted Anakin to do to Dooku after being bested and what he wanted Luke to do to Vader once gaining the victory lap over his Father so clearly Galen had the same midichlorian count as Sidious it was heavily implied if not outright stated yeah.

Great video! Yes, without any doubt in my mind, Sidious was telling Starkiller the truth. You can HEAR the utter disappointment in the Sith Lord's voice when he says, "You had...such promise." as well as, "But now...", turning his head in disgust. The Emperor RARELY lies. He construes the truth sometimes, but after ROTS, he never really outright lies. He's just 5 steps ahead of everyone. Sidious HAD to sense the raw Force power that Starkiller displayed. Once he found out Vader was harboring a secret apprentice, I think that's when he decided that he would have them fight in the throne room (like Dooku and Anakin in ROTS, or Luke and Darth Vader in ROTJ) and see if Starkiller would make a suitable apprentice capable of defeating his former master.

I think Sidious was just being a dick to Galen in the Dark Side ending. Mocking him for standing up to him and getting his ass handed to him, his allies crushed before his eyes and his love literally brought crashing down on him. Did Sidious feel anything approaching respect for him? No. He was never a man to give compliments lightly, and here he just seemed to be baiting him, rubbing in just how much he'd lost.

I'm inclined to think Palpatine's words were a ruse, and intended to get Galen to kill Vader and take his place as a strong hand but not a true successor. Another video you did discussing why Galen was so powerful talked a fair bit about his ability likely being due to a lack of idealistic dogma in any direction. He was simply a weapon, strong with the living force, and under the tutelage of someone who only ever taught him to fight and kill with it. No limitations, no moral compass, Vader pointed, Galen killed.
Palpatine may have been impressed by Galen's power, but I don't think he'd truly be interested in handing the empire to another attack dog. I think he would have treated Starkiller the same way he ultimately regarded Darth Maul.

I've always been a bit iffy on Starkiller. On the one hand, watching him beer can-crush walkers, and TIE fighters, with the Force, or pull down literally a Star Destroyer, or channel his power through the main gun of a capital ship is amazing. Watching him toss Stormtroopers into the air, and assuming that they must have nounced off of a ship's view port, because they never came back down, is funny, but then watching him fight Vader, and seeing the Sith Lord's health chip off by the PIXEL, is insulting. I've never totally understood the nuances of Force combat between two powerful practitioners; what the rules are for what works, and what flops, that makes just falling back on the classic lightsaber the easier plan, but it just seems that if Galen could move the Devastator, while Yoda DID slightly struggle to move a fighter, it would seem that neither the Emperor, nor Vader, should have been able to put up such a protective mantle as it would take to thwart the Force Unleashed. When would either have ever expected it, nor had the time to then practice for it? I get that, in part, it's a game, and the end needs to be dramatic; these are iconic characters, so it will take more than the stray glance of a saber, or jolt of Force lightning, to best them, even though on the films, they are both totally mortal, but it just usually got annoying, and even FELT like a video game. I love the Expanded Universe, but there were definitely moments when I felt that theyvwanted it to be like D&D, and each new weird Force tradition was just trying to be it's own flavor of Wizard, turning invisible, phasing through walls, etc.; things I don't believe even Luke, or Vader, could usually have done, so this, while it made foe a great pair of games, usually felt, too me, too much like video games, and it was weird the sheet magnitude of things Starkiller could seemingly do, and yet how little it worried two Sith who couldn't hope to duplicate it, without inventing a silly dyad, or something.
I think Palpatine might have believed Galen Marek COULD be those things, bit I still think, especially way back then, before the Disney times, that he never intended to die, or fork over power, so NO successor was needed. He always planned to have powerful pawns, but to remain the king, above them. Anything he said was a goad; a jab, or a misdirect, to get out of him what the Emperor wanted.

Starkiller is a power fantasy, he just can’t be canon. For some of the reasons you pointed out and many others. Outside of the movies, in legends, EU, Kenobi etc Vader and Palpatine are capable of everything Starkiller does and more. But in the movies they are little more than old men with political power and dangerous parlor tricks. This has been attempted to be explained away many times but I think the truth is George never thought of the force as we think of it today, levitation, telekenis, choking, lightning and physical feats were pretty much all that came from mastery of the force.
And yes Palpatine had no intention of actually finding or training somebody stronger than him, he would kill anyone that could actually became more powerful than him. He would not allow a true potential rival to exist. He had no intention of carrying on the rule of 2 after he attained power either.
Anything he said to the contrary was just a lie, a gaslight or manipulation to some end.

In Legends Palpatines thoughts he truly wanted people like Pre Suited Anakin/Vader to surpass him since he had the potential too then Galen came along who had equal potential to Sidious and higher then Suited Anakin/Vader which not many had then a even bigger prize years later caught his attention in Luke And Leia who have the same force potentials as there pre battered and shattered Daddy yeah.

I feel like, if Starkiller had the pure evil inside him that Palpatine did, he'd have easily toppled him and started an entirely new era.
But alas, he was just an assassin whose power wasn't held back by ideologies like the Jedi or Sith are controlled by.

I’ve said it a million times, Starkiller can never be canon. He is way too OP, the entire franchise is a power fantasy. Besides if he did show up in live action it would be a complete disappointment if anyone stood even the remotest of chances against him, he’s absolutely busted both with his force powers and intuition and his saber play.
As a toddler he force pulled vaders lightsaber while he was in the middle of a massacre, he was swimming in the dark side and yet with all his power his weapon was ripped away by a child. Obviously once Vader realized the childs potential his force barriers were redoubled, but the power on display in that moment that began everything he is still busted.

no. i've commented in the past of my defence of Galen but in this instance i do not think he could have. simply put Galen was a warrior, not a sith. while he could well have surpassed (and arguably did) Sidious combatively he lacked the coldness to manipulate people to the level that the emperor did. beyond that he had a "pure" darkside connection. he was more of a jedi that used the dark side than a true dark lord. his moral compass, while it had been actively suppressed by vader, had always been present. his compassion and respect for Proxy shows this. due to this moral draw towards the light side principles he could NEVER have achieved the same level of power and mastery of the force as sidious. in fact the only reason he uses the dark side at all is because of the fact he hasn't been taught otherwise. its all he knows. if you put a boxer in a martial arts match they would only have their boxing skills to lean on. they may be able to beat their opponent but they would still be out classed and lack the skills to maintain their place. Galen is a Dark Jedi. he is the dark side counterpart to Ashoka. where she has learned to hear and follow her emotions without letting them take over Galen has learned to channel them to his advantage. She flirts with the dark side while never falling (which i believe she is physically incapable of actually tapping into the dark side since The Daughter resurrected her) while Galen is too acustomed to the spontanious nature of the dark side and so could never truely dwell in the light. they are physically close to being "grey jedi" as can be from their respective alignments.
so no. Galen is fundimentally too "Good" to ever surpass Sidious' power in the force.

I personally don't think this is the case,as while Starkiller was supremely powerful in the Force and it's combative abilities I believe personally that has to do with the fact he was raised from a small child to be a Sith Warrior by Vader this is why he's skilled enough to hold his own against Vader and Palpatine but struggled to do something as simple as clairvoyance in the force or using a mind trick as shown in the force unleashed when he attempted to do a mind trick on a imperial officer while rescuing Leia for Bail,so I firmly believe Palpatine was just putting salt on the wound when he said that as a means to get under Darth Starkiller's skin

Love the SW fandom. This is the part where people say but he was indirectly trained by Darth Vader (he trains with a robot 🥱) yet still can't understand obi wan directly trained Anakin in 1000s of hours of direct sparring sessions and fighting an entire war

I think Starkiller could have bested Sidious if trained correctly/more, but my question is why is he unpopular? For the first time we saw the power of the force and not just some dirty wizard magic tricks. Blah blah, read the books, blah blah…I don’t care. I want to see power, not imagine it. We never saw anyone pull a cruiser down into the dirt. We never saw a force repulse disintegrate an entire squad in the blink of an eye. He was tortured and abused his entire life and pushed to the limits of his mortal shell, and through that he ascended. Just thinking about that makes me hate Rey a little more. He earned his power, he wasn’t given it by a tyrant that has crapped on this property that is currently on life support by fans that hold the franchise higher than anything. Am I one of those fans? No, but I am fascinated by the fans ability to love something so much. OP? Maybe, but he earned it and those abilities drew me closer to being one of those fans just like when I played KOTOR 1&2. Vader, Revan, and Starkiller were extremely complicated and tragic characters and those are characters I can get attached to.

Starkiller could overcome both Fart Shittous as "VAnakider".
    With ease.
He got erased for the same idiotic reason as the Borg were murdered: "the sake of the story", and nothing else.
    Despicable in every way.

OMG, Starkiller could wipe his arse with "VAnakider" full power, Fart Shittious in last form (tied to the World Machine that powered him in the last film), Luke and his alter evil Luke simultaeously.
First TFU, both Vader and Fart Shittious had SERIOUS issues killing Marek.
Well, Vader failed miserably, I had worse fights in that game with regular opponents.
I took out Vader in less than 20 seconds.
Farth Palpafail would have been neutered with a hammer, if Marek had one, but nooooo:
Fart Foolpatine had to cheat, programmed, there was no alternative option to erase dickface.
And so, Marek had to die, "for the sake of the story".
The makers pulled a "Borg" on Marek.
The same fuckin' happening ALL-OVER in the Sequel.
But beyond anything it was proven, seeing how Marek and Starkiller erased entire LEGIONS of enemies, and not break a sweat.
Come on, when will you get real for a second, @The_Stupendous_Wave?

Even Marek just MIGHT have been an equal for Abeloth.
      THAT DAMN STRONG was he.
      Come on:
He was The Force Unleashed, no one ever had these powers afore, this guy was THE GUY.
Marek, the original, already virtually was the Force.
      What he did, unseen afore.
He had the potential, literally, to move solar systems, if he focused.
This guy was "The Force Superman", with as only possible Kryptonite Abeloth.
      POSSIBLE!!!! Kryptonite.
      Stop being so frakkin Disney.
      It's horrendous.

"What if it was a game?"
Yeah yeah, the whole SW shit is a bloody, horrendously erroneous, crashing game.
Each "update" on a bad, rotten base (the first three movies made), causing more destruction per update.
      Why a rotten base?
Because all lore already established in these being ignored, corrupted, falsified, as they went along.
      TPM:
Maul was VASTLY superior to Vader.
Only got killed of, and HOW, for the fuckin' sake of the story?
      Fuck that.
      Not like that.
Had him given a heart attack, or a planet crashing into his head, that I could accept, but a miserable Padafuck halving a Battle Master?
      Nuh-huuh.
      Nevah.
My GOD what an insult to Maul.
And it keeps going on like this, the whole damn time.
      Sad.
