Disney (ABC/ESPN) could have Mike Breen do opening monologues like he’s doing here on NBC. But they choose not to for selling ads. I hate this era of broadcasting!!
Man…. I’ve got goosebumps watching this. If there was ever a doctorate degree for basketball knowledge on TH-cam…. This channel gets is! MDBBall indeed!
I'm a Knicks fan and had the opportunity to meet Jamal Mashburn in April and we talked a little about this rivalry. I miss these times. The Knicks gave me something fun to look forward to during a tough time in my life.
Whats really noticeable to me about the NBA pre-2010, especially in the 1990s, is how muscular players were. Its like post 2010, every NBA player is a stick
Second most heated Rivalry behind Knicks vs Pacers. Suspensions effected the outcome of the first two installments of it in 97 and 98. After that? The Knicks barely inched by in 99 and 2000. Good rivalry no less.
For all the drama and hatred between the Heat and Knicks in this series, I feel like whoever reached the 2nd round would've lost to Indiana either way.
Knicks defeated the Pacers in 1999 though. So technically we don't know how it really would've gone knowing Ewing didn't return until game 2 of the series and had to be worked back into the main rotation again after a long six month layoff due to injury. Had he not been injured there's no way the Knicks finish as the seventh seed. The Pacers were good, but they were beatable.
@@MEANDMYDAD2023 I'm strictly talking about the circumstances as they were entering the 1998 playoffs. The Knicks were running on fumes playing without Ewing since December had little to no chance against the Pacers even with a rusty Ewing returning for that series. Miami just didn't feel quite as good or dangerous as they were in 96-97, I've got a hunch Indiana probably would've beaten them as well.
Yes hopefully i'll be able to get to them. I've uploaded two here: th-cam.com/video/IBVzvgJoiO8/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ggVvJgDQmiY/w-d-xo.html
They would've advanced to the ECF in 1999 and possibly the NBA Finals. But in all honesty, I don't see how they would've beaten either the Spurs or the Lakers in those two years.
@@KWCline91 they played the Spurs in The 99 finals. Ewing was out and they lost 4-1 and they should have one game 5 but the Spurs were healthy and a better team.
Good to hear Mike Breen on NBC
Hope he gets to be the lead announcer when the NBA comes back to NBC after next season.

To say that there was no love lost between these teams would be an understatement
Man, These are as much fun to watch now as they were back then live. Great job of editing and blending the highlights too.
👍

This give me early Sunday afternoon vibes. I'm watching this on a Sunday morning as we speak

Knicks sure had many hated rivals back in the Ewing era (Bulls, Pacers, Heat)

A young Mike Breen on the call 🐐
Allan Houston with the tech? Never seen him get one. He must've been mad lol
Amazing how Miami Arena only lasted for 10 years while Kaseya (formerly American Airlines Arena) Center is entering its 26th year.
Can You More 1997-1998 New York Knicks Basketball Games MDBball
Is that Mike Breen?!
Yep
Mike was doing games on NBC in the late 90s until NBC lost the TV rights in 2002. He called the 2002 East Finals on NBC.
The Knicks totally owned the Heat for three straight years despite all of their series went the full route.
It would have been 4 straight if it wasn't for those suspensions.
@RooseveltDarbey facts and I bet they're a better opponent in ECF for the Bulls than the Heat.

The Knicks vs Bulls playoff rivalry was up there for a few years too.

Can You Upload Bulls Vs. Knicks Basketball From 1994 NBA Playoffs

No Patrick Ewing and the Knicks still won, that shows that those suspensions the year before helped Miami.
LJ!!!
The Heat should have been making long playoff runs in 1999 and 2000 but the Knicks were always in their way.
I can't find games 3 or 4 of this series??
