Any thoughts on any of these items?
That top 50 graded list is horrifying 😂 A deceased patients medical chart…and the patient is the junk slab era… poorly stated, but hopefully the point is made.
Hey Mike, Tavis here. Great recap and appreciate you gathering all this material for us! I thought the HOF sign getting inked by hofers was a really dope idea too. When I was working the Boston Card Show at the Shriner's back in April, I saw another "original" HOF sign. However, it was like 8ft by 6ft and made out of some kind of metal. Multiple people had to bring it up for Gary Payton to sign. Perhaps it was the original one by the road at the current location. I think I'd much rather have this one though, obviously much easier to move around. Either way incredible idea and such a unique item.
@@tavpaquette great meeting you at the show, Tavis!
The Harper card reminds me of a newer phenomenon of people posting cards on eBay with terms like “eBay 1/1” lol
Another great vid! Have a great week!!
I avoid sellers like that with a 50ft pole. The dumbest cliche on eBay 💯

Welcome back and thank you for sharing videos of the National 2024!
Nicely balanced and nuanced review of the show. Your opinions and comments and thoughts also conveyed very gently and honest. I've been in the hobby three times: as a kid when one "collected baseball cards", in the mid 90's to early 2000's and now as an old guy. I am drawn to the ultra modern by virtue of the easy flip or buying baseball prospects on the cheap. I'm starting to develop a nostalgia for acquiring late 90's Flair Showcase Legacy and PMG's. I think at some point but it will take a while the utter frenzy that is ultra modern will moderate while an appreciation for the fact that cards go back 100+ years will continue to develop. There's way too much ultra modern produced and imo too many folks trying to buy and sell graded PSA 10's of cards with staggeringly large print runs. A lot of money gets burned that way with not enough emphasis on the joy of collecting.
@@stueystuey1962 100%. Well said
I didn’t see that large Piedmont ad. Wow. How didn’t miss that.
I have never put anything down on a display case even when I was 12 years old , so happy upon that topic. Even my 15-year-old son knows better and I never mentioned it.
Yeah it’s a pet peeve of mine
That 1962 wax box sold!
Crazy!
After watching several National videos, here are my thoughts: 1) the ultra-modern / ultra-expensive market is is poised for major losses once prices top out (how many people are interested in paying thousands of dollars for mediocre current day players?) and 2) vintage appears to be strong and 80s / 90s cards looks good.
@@johnrambo7630 agreed!

@@brianwisz9006 it’s up another $50!
@@JunkWaxHero We're getting there man!!
The eBay search function barely works for me when it’s supposedly doing fine! 😅 I should make a video, to shame the developers 😮
When I set up at local shows, if I even get a suspicion that zion case is about to hit my glass, I nip it in the bud instantly..”hey, let’s not lay that on the glass, thank you” … people are shocked but then realize they were the ass holes in that situation.
I saw a video on TikTok where they sold the 1962 sealed box. The one you showed for $395,000. Pretty crazy. Love the video as always.
@@tractorguy207 yeah that’s crazy. I wonder how much it sold for, if close to their asking price
I've been to like 8 Nationals (Cleveland, Chicago, Jersey, and LA), although it's been a while, and while I would love to go to another one, every new video that gets posted about it makes me want to go anywhere but there. It looks like it has turned soooo corporate. It's seems to be all about the companies and breakers. Don't get me wrong, the companies always had booths and did special things, but it wasn't like it is today. As far as the dealers go, I would obviously see things I wouldn't see anywhere else, but the thing was, dealers wanted to sell. Prices were fair and they would work to make a sale. Doesn't seem like that is the case anymore. I am on the West Coast, so no idea how shows like Dallas are, but I would much rather go to smaller shows where I know I can get deals than go to the National at this point. I saw a video yesterday, I think 502's, where some dealer at the NSCC wanted above a PSA 10 price for a raw card and wouldn't budged. Ridiculous.
@@championship_sports-vv9dm I get that, but it’s easy to avoid the corporate booths. I know because I did.
No it was set up really nice, the breakers were all tucked away in their own corner lol
Thanks Mike for this wrap up video of your experiences at the National. I followed you all week & learned a lot watching your reviews, very enjoyable & entertaining.
It’s hard to believe people would stand in line for so long to go to the bathroom. Especially since there was the “hanger” area or the left-side entrance, which you showed in your photo. I’m older now, so when I gotta go, I gotta go now!
Yeah they said to get in line before you need to go 🤷🏻♂️
Was great to meet you at the National. It was hard to miss the person walking around with the basketball HOF sign. I definitely noticed that there were a lot fewer modern dealers at the National this year. I think this is an issue with the National and the long time dealers that get first dibs at locations. If the people going to the show want modern and the people that run the National don’t listen, then fewer young people will go to the show. Chicago is a better location with the number of hotels, but the venue is not as nice.
What is with the young kids who put their cases on the tables. Annoying!
@@kenscardboard great meeting you too, Ken!
Always enjoy your take. We hope to meet you next National in Chicago with our guy Keating.
For sure!
Great seeing you in Cleveland! Wish we had a chance to chat more. Next time!
Yes! I should be back next year!
The fact that Wemby has so many different cards produced only reinforces that the card companies care more about making money than they do for collectors,
Greatly informative video! I hope that since you didn't seem to get to as many card shops as you thought, that you will still make some videos in the future based on your card shop visit format. Have a great day!
I hope so!
Superman's X-Ray vision was blocked by lead. I can see the headlines now: CT machine will now force card manufacturers to line each pack with lead, causing more price increases!
@@basbalking ugh lol
Mike it was great to finally meet you. My biggest complaint like yours is all the "peli boys" as they call them, literally taking over the food court area. You're in every corner of the place trading and whatever else, let the rest of us eat and rest in peace.
@@collegehoopsguy thanks so much for introducing yourself! It was great talking for a few minutes at the get together.
Might want to sell your vintage while you still can, because Millennials and Gen Z'ers don't care about anything that happened before they were born. That's been my experience at least.
You are so right.
Trade night in the basement was fun. I know I’m in the minority here but I just walked past all the booths that had all graded cards. I’m a low end 90’s basketball collector so none of my search cards would be in their cases. The reason I walked by was with thousands of 1-2-$5 boxes to search through I didn’t have enough time to hunt my cards
@@tomkelley1100 I get that!
It was great getting to meet you and shake your hand! I really enjoyed our conversation at the Dick Perez Movie screening! Thanks Mike!
@@warrendinCLE me too, Warren!
I would buy more vintage but my guy is Nolan Ryan and his cards arent cheap. My other PC guy is Kobe so I'd appreciate the winning Powerball numbers so I can remain in this hobby 😂 The ebay search thing is a farce. Other day it was giving me Pokemon and appliances when I typed in Kobe Bryant cards. 🤦♂️

@@JunkWaxHero I just like to smile at Yankees blunders like any self-respecting non-Yankee fan should. I feel your pain though, the Guards got smoked by the Phillies. Hoping for a rubber match win today.
@@JunkWaxHerolet's go Phillies even though I like Jose Ramirez
I was hoping for the Topps now card when Trent Grisham lazily misplaced that single turning it into a double against the Reds three weeks ago, but sadly this wasn't commemorated as well.😢
@6:30 I don't know if it's rigged or if I just have bad luck? Probably both!
I have seen several videos highlighting many of the vintage cards offered, and the prices were at the VERY top end of comps to 120% over. There is about a 1% chance I’d buy a card there unless it’s was just a rarity that you don’t see on ebay or something. I can’t tell how many times I would be watching and yelling at the dealer in my phone, usually obscenities.
I found amazing deals!
I had my back pack and I’m middle age… but I had my work laptop and needed to finish a print package lol
@@tomkelley1100 lol that’s real life
Welcome home indeed...appreciate your content as always Mike
Send you case or boxes in to get scanned. How will you know if they find something great that they won’t switch your box with another and keep your potential big hits?
Great great question!
In Canada, thanks to socialized medicine, you can get your packs scanned for free! Unfortunately it's an 18 month wait, I hear.
"It's hard to flip vintage when nobody buys it." 🤣 Oh man, that person lives in his ultra-modern silo and has this attitude toward a facet of the hobby he doesn't understand. Now, I have nothing to do with ultra-modern, I think it's absurd that a card printed this year with some sparkly foil and a "1/25" stamped on it sells for more than a high-grade 1950s Mickey Mantle. But I am not so isolated from that side of the hobby as to say nobody buys ultra-modern. Indeed, PSA is swamped by ultra-modern submissions, more than a million a month, which get cracked and submitted again if they don't get a 10. It would be less silly to say everybody buys ultra-modern.
@@cryptonite8495 yeah it’s a pretty crazy thing to say. Those vintage booths were busy!
My collection begs to differ lol. I LOVE vintage
Oh I managed to get a 68 Bench for 60 at a local small show from a guy that had ONLY ultra modern in his case. I believe his dad gave him the bench or it was part of a trade in. It came back an SGC 4
@@ObsessedCollector score!!
@@ObsessedCollector No offense intended to anyone who collects both. I was responding solely to the person JWH quoted about nobody buying vintage. Obviously you buy vintage! 👍
BBCE posted a video... they sold that '62 Topps box.
@@nabzy28 wow!!
The Wacky Packages box was 45K too. That 69 box was already gone by the time I saw their booth.😢
Dude talking about vintage cards, need to watch auctions of 50, and 60 cards and CARs. Serious money for both.
To be fair, that Bryce Harper card would be pretty ugly no matter what puffy sticker they put in it. It might be time to turn away from manufactured patches, decals, and the like. 🤷
@@ThePennysleever I did a few years ago
Is fanatics selling commission less than Ebay? Id move to if it was and Burbanks SC size. Ebay neeeeds competition for sure. On the CT scan company GEEEZ. The card companies are going to have to start producing inside box sleeves are the packs that are CT scan proof like the wallets that keep your credit cards safe. Just start packing them in Lead Containers ha.
Yeah their fees are much lower for smaller value cards
Id tell burbank to just add fanatics, why remove platforms when you can have more working for you to sell over less.
@@richardbianco9674 I’m guessing they were incentivized by fanatics to sell there exclusively
@JunkWaxHero that has to be it because business wise that doesn't make much sense. Most buyers tend to stick to their favorite platform to buy and the overlap between the big ones isn't really as much as some people think.
How much does it cost Topps to make that card and get it auto'd? That's some seriously cheap advertising in the best way, they know what they are doing.
On a different note, Fanatics are highly dependent on breakers and the way they drive up the hobby prices any blip in that is going to affect their stock value and breaking does seem to be going down in the last six months. They have increased print runs, increased prices even on retail and there are virtually infinite parallels and less of a chance to hit them in retail, all this has pushed the average collector away. In a way we are in a new junk wax era with base cards, really illustrated by the disregard breakers give them. This is good for set builders but there are not that many modern card set builders.
Good comment
Thanks for sharing your fantastic trip!
I know I shouldn't be like this, but I find it so hard to interact with the Topps twitter account now that Whiteback is running it.
