  • The Fujifilm GFX 50R is the 2nd camera edition of their medium format line-up at a more affordable price point. It has the same sensor as the GFX 50S in a new form factor. Evelyn and Dave had the chance to test a pre-production unit from the Fujiguys for this hands-on review with special guest Mark Unrau from Rocky Mountain Photography Adventures.

    Hey, I think this is the first video I’ve noticed where you both started to look relaxed and more comfortable with having a camera pointed at you. Keep at it and have fun with your quirks. You can definitely grow into this. Really enjoyed the relaxed style of this video. Now wanting one of these cameras, dammit!

      @@TheCameraStoreTV Always tempted. And if i didn't live in the UK with the dreaded B word happening next year, with all my finances up in the air as a result... well, It's just going to have to wait. That really was fun to watch. I especially enjoy that calm and friendly presentation you do. There are more than enough people doing reviews on youtube that leave you grasping for air because of the insane presentation speed and machine-gun video cuts but do lack actual information. But in the end, a product review should focus on the product and give the viewer a useful summary of how it may suit his photography needs. Keep it up!

    Yep, you're getting better at this. I like how you get out and about too, and put the cameras through their paces. Too many reviews have a shrugged-shoulder shoot of outside the office, but you really tested this one with a nice mix of subjects. The GFX50R sure does look nice, but for what I shoot I'm happy sticking with the X-Pro2 for now. Can't deny its tempting though, and somewhat like Fuji's old Texas Leica range.

    • @TheCameraStoreTV
      @TheCameraStoreTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. We put quite a bit of time into testing this one. That might not always be realistic for all our camera reviews. But, Fujifilm was generous in giving us a decent amount of time to put it through a variety of test scenarios. I agree with you Peter, I am happy with my X-series camera for what I normally shoot too. But, this camera is very, very tempting. - Evelyn

    This was a relaxed, thorough review. It is one of the best overall summaries I have seen for either of the GFX cameras. I recently bought the GFX 50S (because it fits my needs better than the GFX 50R) and am still in the getting-to-know-it phase. As you mentioned, you do have to slow down and concentrate on shutter speed and other parameters in order to get the best results. If you are off a bit, it certainly shows! I love the logic behind the design of the camera as well as the solid build quality. In my estimation, both the camera and the lenses are well worth what Fuji charges for them, and I am excited about where Fuji will take this series in the next few years. Again, thanks for the beautiful and informative video!

    I appreciate the thorough and serious consideration and testing you guys did. As for my $0.02 (American or Canadian!), I can hardly find a justification for the cost versus my Canon gear for my event and headshot photography. And for landscape work (which I don't do professionally) I would question as to whether the care one has to take to get the best images from this system wouldn't also result in very similar images from full-frame, high-megapixel DSLRs. So I wonder if Fujifilm is going to sell very many of these.

    Nice review, but doubling the pixels from 24 to 50 does not double the resolution. Resolution is determined by the factor of the vertical and horizontal pixels. Thus, to double the resolution, you need to double the number of pixels both horizontally and vertically which is results in quadrupalling the number of total pixels. Therefore, to double the resolution of 24 pixels would require a 96 pixel sensor.

    • @123Coffs

      Chris Fuller not exactly. The term resolution is often considered equivalent to pixel count in digital imaging, though international standards in the digital camera field specify it should instead be called "Number of Total Pixels" in relation to image sensors, and as "Number of Recorded Pixels" for what is fully captured. Hence, JCIA & CIPA suggest notation such as "Number of Recorded Pixels 1000 × 1500".[1][2] According to the same standards, the "Number of Effective Pixels" that an image sensor or digital camera has is the count of pixel sensors that contribute to the final image (including pixels not in said image but nevertheless support the image filtering process), as opposed to the number of total pixels, which includes unused or light-shielded pixels around the edges.
      An image of N pixels height by M pixels wide can have any resolution less than N lines per picture height, or N TV lines. But when the pixel counts are referred to as "resolution", the convention is to describe the pixel resolution with the set of two positive integer numbers, where the first number is the number of pixel columns (width) and the second is the number of pixel rows (height), for example as 7680 × 6876. Another popular convention is to cite resolution as the total number of pixels in the image, typically given as number of megapixels, which can be calculated by multiplying pixel columns by pixel rows and dividing by one million. Other conventions include describing pixels per length unit or pixels per area unit, such as pixels per inch or per square inch. None of these pixel resolutions are true resolutions[clarification needed], but they are widely referred to as such; they serve as upper bounds on image resolution.

    • @TechnoBabble
      @TechnoBabble 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not directly, but the indirect effect sensor size has on the focal length lenses you choose and how far you are from your subject do effect the DoF. Unfortunately Fuji doesn't really make any wide aperture lenses for the G mount meaning you actually get better low light and DoF out of full frame cameras with faster lenses.

    This a FIFTEEN minute video and yet you could not spend 15 seconds to talk about the image ratio. I get it that camera nerds may not care but for those landscape photographers who print their work , aspect ratio is a key factor, especially since the Fuji GX50R allows a lot of classic MF films ratio in addition to the native 4:3 ratio , like 5:4 and 7:6. A camera with twice the mega-pixels is not twice the resolution. Example, a six mega-pixel is not.doublef until it 24 mega-pixel. So 24 would be 100.

    • @robiulahmed
      @robiulahmed 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would argue it is double. If you used an actual unit of area, rather than MP, you would say e.g. 48cm^2 is double 24cm^2. 96cm^2 is 4x the area. Just because 50MP doesn't look twice as big, doesn't mean it isn't.
