Finally , a review which mentions the aspect ratio (at 7.10mm) . Anyone who shoots a lot of verticals knows how bad the 3.2 ratio is for vertical shots . This camera is a great compliment for M43 shooters where one can get great ratios options for the images , including 4.3 (but also 5.4)

Exactly! Major selling point in terms of composition that no one mentions.

Nice review. You put it well that you feel good when you shoot with a Fujifilm camera. Honestly I feel the same, I get this joy with GFX which I don't get with my Sony FF.

Great review. Thank you for mentioning the unimportant lack of 4K video, I'm one of those that wants this camera for the landscape & stills image quality and access to GF lenses. I would like to see a stills only MF camera from Fujifilm someday. I think this camera kit would be an excellent pairing with an X-T3 kit.

This camera is amazing! Yeah it sucks compared to the 100 or 100s but they cost 2x-3x as much. It’s great compared to the original 50 and the 50R. And has ibis! This will be an excellent “entry point” for many first time medium format cameras.

Another great review from CameraStore. I've not yet handled this camera/lens but the image quality from the bigger format is always a plus. If you pay more you usually get more. I have the impression that there is the capability to capture high quality and exciting images with this combo. I would like to add the GF 110mm F/2 R LM WR lens. Such a package seems likely to meet many of my requirements and right now in Nov 2022 the price point is better than before. But still a lot of cash....needed. Thanks.

I love how your reviews are so positive. You find joyful little pockets on almost everything you review including this one. Overall it seems like a few too many corners were cut off of the 100s version but all of your logic is still sound. It’s a great entry point.
One thing I’d like to see you do, since you are in Canada and have access to more frequent aurora views and lower light pollution than a lot of areas in the world, Is some Astro photography. How does this camera/sensor, and it’s 100 megapixel sibling, perform in Astro photography? I know it’s a niche use, but it’s an niche camera too, and I think astro could offer a useful perspective.

As Canadians, I think it's impossible for you not to be polite. This is a very good review that does mention some issues that an Aussie reviewer addressed more directly. He felt that it was overpriced for all the reasons you mentioned. It is really hard to believe they are using a sensor that old in a new camera. It should be priced at 1/2 the price of the GFS 100s.
I always enjoy your reviews and I'm looking forward to the X-H2 review when the camera is released.

I do have the 50r the 100 and the 100s. With the 50sII coming out I am thinking of swapping the 50R and the 100 and going with the 100s and the 50SII. Main reasons for the latter: IBIS, lesser resolution will probably works best with a lot of adaptive lenses, and the possibility that it will be a better low light performer. In addition the lower megapixel count may make an easier and better performer for astrophotography. I know there is a bit of controversy about the sensor in this camera, but I believe (and correct me if I am wrong) there isn’t a 50MP sensor at this time that could substitute for this one.

Sadly it takes 14bit raw photos instead of the common 16bit raw photos of nearly all digital medium format cameras. This is serious with the raw photo processing of highlights and shadows.
Nevertheless the 4000$ for a brand new digital medium format camera is impressive and after some years it will certainly fall to 3000$ close to many full frame digital cameras.

Good question. For me personally, I'd honestly go with the 50S II over the 100s because I prefer the more manageable file sizes, and I love working with the image files that come from the 50S II sensor. However, I think Dave would go with the 100s because he loves having the extra resolution and flexibility for cropping etc. - Evelyn

Not until they release lenses that actually make any sense. Right now, Canon and Sony offer lenses that defeat the extra DOF control of the MF since they are faster lenses and their sensors make it very hard to see any IQ differences to the FUJI MF. On top of that, both new Sony and Canon cameras are far superior in video and AF so that makes the Fujis a bad option. Plus many more features that make shooting a much better experience so you can focus (no pun intended)on the shoot as the camera basically disappears.
And lets not forget is not REALLY MF..just not a good overall option unless you just want ton say I shoot "MF"

    • @bobby350z

I have the original GFX50s and Sony latest A7rIV. That 7 yr old sensor is still better than any recent FF for picture quality. AF is much slower but for life of things that doesn't matter.

    • @hrannarhauksson655
      @hrannarhauksson655 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Landscape photographers don't only shoot in landscape orientation. The 3:2 not working as well for portrait shots so for most of us who occasionally rotate the camera the 4:3 ratio strikes a good balance for both. There is not rule that a landscape shot has to be "slim".

Its not really medium format so you can't compare the price to the older real medium format cameras. and how much image quality are you getting over a high mp full frame camera that it is worth the sacrifice of so so auto focus, low frames per second and so so view finder and limited pricey lenses. and because its a bigger sensor, to keep the lenses smaller the lenses aren't as fast as allot full frame lenses. so you are not even getting a more shallow Depth of field from the bigger sensor. so personally even though its a nice camera, its hard to sell me on this camera system.
