    Another informative entertaining video👍 Get my seal of approval❣️👏 👏 Thanks to your videos, my prime collection will be completed with arrival of the 20mm lens this week. Can't wait to hit the road with my GX7 and a pocketful of primes (Laowa 7.5mm, 14mm, 20mm, 42.5mm)and. Great work, Gary!🙏

    I love this lens. I bought it for its wide aperture and small size. It is a bit slow to focus sometimes but most of my pictures are of something static or slow moving so it's not a big problem for me. I do wish that it had a closer minimum focus because I sometimes have to back off before it will focus and then crop the result, but there are aways compromises. Overall it's excellent

      It's a really good lens! Although I'm leaning more toward my Pan 15 1.7 these days, the Pan 20 is still is a great lens and the one that I really like for street photography

    I had the version 1. I love its size, its focal length, and its bright f/1.7. But I really didn’t like the auto focus speed. When the version 2 came out, I read and watched review saying the autofocus speed remain the same. I moved on to other lens. But I still love this lens.

      HI Ryan, thank you for the comment! Yes I agree with the autofocus speed, it definitely improved since I am now using Panasonic bodies (GX8 and G85) instead of my older PEN E-PL6. Nevertheless I still enjoy the lens :) Happy shooting and take care

      Gary W yes, I put a couple of older lens on my EM1 II, the autofocus have improved a little bit too. Happy shooting and take care.

    I'm thinking about picking up a 25mm 1.7 for shooting b-rolls and street photography

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a good lens for both video B rolls as well as for street photography, as long as you don't have to use continuous autofocus. Happy shooting :)

    Why did you cover your lens in black gaff tape?

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello Erik, I want to make the lens look ugly and kind of like put together, to reduce the chance of thieves or pick pockets getting interested with it 😅😅😅. Hope this explains :)

    saw your review about different lenses then came to this because this lens peaked my interest. I don't really plan on doing videos too much and my subjects wouldn't be that fast-moving so basically mostly portraits or landscapes. Which one would you suggest without keeping budget in mind? The options I have narrowed it down to are this 20mm f/1.7 II, Panasonic LUMIX G Lens 25mm F1.7, and Panasonic LUMIX G Leica DG SUMMILUX Lens 15MM 1.7.

      Hello, sorry for the late reply. I much prefer the 15 1.7 because it is wider thus more versatile, but the 20 1.7 can make your subject more prominent in the frame, and potentially also give you better background blur if you want. Hope this helps! 😊

    Thanks for your very informative video ! I'm struggling in choosing my first 2 lenses for my GX85 : I'm hesistating between (17mm 1.8 + 25mm 1.7) or between (20mm 1.7 + 45mm 1.8) BUT I mainly shoot videos and my first bet was on the 25mm 1.7 to make B-Roll and cinematic videos... Could you help me ? I can't decide :(

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Benjamin, thank you for the comment! If I may suggest, if you mainly shoot video then 25mm would be a better choice, since the 20mm autofocus during video could potentially cause either speed issue or sound issue. It really depends on what focal lengths that you are comfortable shooting with, but I personally prefer something in the 12-20mm range for normal focal length combined with 25-45mm for zoomed in focal length. Hope this helps, cheers :)

    I'm debating whether to get this lens for my em5 mark ii or just save for something else...
    It looks like a really nice lens. I love the size and focal length.

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this could be a great choice for em5 II. Just be aware that autofocus might be a little bit slower, but not by much.

    I just bought mine second hand, but it bothers me that it makes slight noise, when focusing. Does yours?

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does make some noise when it focus, it is an older autofocus mechanism design. Mine also makes slight noise.

    Is it good for close ups?

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately not so good, it is a bit limited when it comes to close focusing distance. It can still do food photography if the object isn't too small.
