I was a little girl in the 50’s and remember all these dresses on my aunt and grandma. My mom not as much as she was a stay at home mom and wore more casual things like what we call capris and tops mainly. My grandmother managed a dept in a big dept store something like kohl’s and dressed in dresses like these every day. She had beautiful clothes and shoes, hats and bags to go with everything. I used to love looking at her beautiful hat collection that she kept in hat boxes that were as pretty as the hats. Women back then always wore little white gloves to church on Sunday’s. I think the reason you don’t find as much lavender in women’s clothing is it was mainly used in little girls clothing during the 50’s. It was not as popular a color in fashion of the 50’s. You know how colors trend even today.

Ahh thanks so much for sharing those memories! I love some of the more casual 50’s styles as well. Pants have been a lot harder for me to find, especially in my size! I’m going to have to find a good vintage pattern and make some. Your grandma sounds fabulous!! That’s awesome.

Laci Fay The Vintage Girl Next Door My grandmother was a beautiful woman and took care of her looks, drove a car and took care of herself up until she was 90. Oh and the shirtwaist dresses you have in the pastel colors I remember that the teens mostly wore those colors. I don’t recall women wearing pants much until the 60’s. I do remember capris or dungarees in the summer but dresses the rest of the time. I had to wear dresses or skirts all through my school years. My area did not allow girls to wear pants to school until 4-5 years after I graduated. It was torture in cold Ohio winters to walk home from school with bear legs or panty hose in snow drifts. Not many got rides home in those days. I believe I grew up in the best time in America. A child in the 50’s, a teen in the 60’s and then the disco, bell bottom, platform shoe era of the 70’s. Really fun times. You have brought back a lot of good memories today. Thanks for sharing your fun, beautiful life with us on TH-cam.

Of course you have to buy certain super special dresses! If you've notice the prices of conventional, contemporary clothing, you are still saving a ton of money. You would spend so much more at department stores, or boutiques. You have a true appreciation of this clothing, and you need to honor that when you find something special. You seem pretty thrifty for the most part. You don't have justify your spending. Your husband is a lucky man, and I bet he would be the first to agree. Keep on saving those gems, please.

A lady who lived a few doors down from our house ran the Mode-O-Day Shop in our town back in the 1960's. We always went there to buy
"house dresses" for my grandma on her birthday and Mother's Day. I wish we'd kept some of them! I have a weakness for plaid! I really liked the orange,brown,and... dress you modeled. I loved the lavender and yellow shirtwaist dresses too! Keep wearing those white gloves !!

What a beautiful collection!! You're lucky to have found so much vintage clothing. I'm a modern day size 14 and rarely find clothes that will fit me. What do you wear when you hang out at home or exercising? Do you always dress vintage style? I feel you about the quarantine weight gain! It was just so easy to do! I'm doing the Weight Watchers plan from the 70's and it's helping get the weight off but it's slow.

Again, thank you for bringing so much joy. Several of the dresses you've shown...I have that are very similar. Yet, they weren't 'thrifted'. They were handed down ❤. Three of them are made of Taffeta, two are layed chiffon. I hadn't worn them in a long time. Yet, a friend's daughter borrowed them. She wanted to wear them to have photographs taken. Oh my, she looked lovely. I'll be back to the hospital again tomorrow & will be eager to catch up on whatever I miss. Laci, you are a joy ❤

I have just recently found your channel, while searching for retro/vintage knitting patterns. As a knitter, when I run up against a scratchy wool, I soak in cool water with a natural hair conditioner (avoid anything with sulfates, silicones, etc - natural is the key word here) and then lay flat to dry without rinsing. This generally helps, and occasionally resolves the issue. Dry cleaning (depending on the cleaner and their process) can actually damage the fibers and this will cause the itch factor to go up. I have NOT tried this on any vintage wool fabric, but a quick internet search found this trick recommended for vintage wool sweaters. Just an idea :)

Love the details, a woman in a dress is just wow! I do have 25-28 dresses, but some of them look vintage, some not. Very interested I will definitely following your work. I'm from
Canada. The sophisticated look I always love, I'm not a fan of cotton ouatté, jeans, and hooded. No for me.
My grandmother was very stylish, I remember her shoes and she likes to wear pleated skirts...

while watching this I had to ask myself...".why do I LOVE this style? What is it that defines this style over others?" Alas, my mind was blank. I LOVE all these. re purple/ purple WAS rare as I do not remember any purple or mauve dresses. So when purple reentered the fashion scene, my wardrobe has bee full of it.

Hi from Indonesia Laci ! I am imagining you are the winner for the "Tweed Run", where everybody will wear their vintage clothing or inspired by it at least, back to the 50's cycling all over London. I really loved your collection.

Love all these dresses, it’s amazing how good they look on even though they don’t always look good on the hanger. I am going to start paying more attention to all the dresses at the thrift store. 😊

Thirteen to fifteen years ago I went to an estate sale and bought Russel Wright china, and some 1950's name brand very well made costume jewelry. This whole house was a house of the 1950's. Complete with Tiki Bar. I could also find Russell Wright China in thrift stores and it's gorgeous. You can not find any of that in a thrift store now. It's all dollar store and TJMaxx home decor that people have tired of. And here in the east of the US thrift stores are higher than retail brand new, so I only go to look at cookbooks and leave the rest of that stuff for them to keep as it's way too high. I can go to Kohl's and buy things brand new for cheaper than the thrift stores here on the East Coast. I've hit the point that I am not buying anything unless I really really need it or want it that bad as I'm downsizing and trying to keep the hoarding at bay. I've already done 5 hauls to thrift stores and I need to do about 150 more hauls. It is fun to thrift but this stuff takes up space and your peace of mind so try to parcel out the things you are tired of and don't want. Really really it's for your zen mindset. If you don't you will need to rent a storage space and then this is something your kids have to deal with.
