    Definitely needs a shorter shock after fitting the Caltracs. That shock would be screwed from bottoming out in no time!

    Nice video. I have Calvert split monos, caltracs, viking DA shocks, funkhouser shock plates and sliders for the rear of mine. I'm going to start on it soon as I finish this interior up. I'm debating on cutting out the factory cross member at the rear and welding a tubular in with upper shock mounts to have the shocks more vertical.

    • @SS10guy012
      @SS10guy012  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I appreciate the compliment. My video editing skills aren't that great but I was able to show what I wanted. I'm planning on installing sliders on the back of my leafs at some point. And was also thinking about adding a box tube cross member to make the shocks more vertical as well. One project at a time.

      @@SS10guy012 It's better than what I can do now, it's new for me. I hope to start on my rear suspension in the next week or 2. My 2nd gen has a lot more weight to remove from a big spare tire mount too that's connected to the top shock mounts.

    I like the comparison and caltracs definitely work but the stock set up was far from ideal and needed a lot of improvement. Removing the lowering block and adding a spring clamp or two to the front of the leaf pack would have improved the launch significantly for a lot less money.

    Did you have to do something with driveshaft length, when changing to the split mono-leaf springs?
    I have an '82 S10 , drag racing with stock springs, no lowering blocks, Cal-Traks, and Calvert Racing, single-adjustable shocks.
    I'm debating getting a pair of 3" lowered split mono-leafs, and perhaps a pair of QA1 double-adjustable shocks.
    Some racers in the Drag Race Results forum I frequent are not really impressed with the mono-leafs.
    I must install a camera like you did, to review what my suspension is doing; I have noone to video my launches otherwise.
    Thank you.

  • @N-Lee
    @N-Lee ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well I guess. But there is also another way. Look at the video on the LEFT at 0:10 and see the bottom Load Spring. You can loosen the U Bolts and move that forward until it just about touches the frame. Re-Tighten the U-Bolts. It will prevent axle wrap, provide traction, and can be adjusted forward or back as needed to tune it. I have the one Lowering spring as shown in the video at the RIGHT, but instead of a Caltrac I use the Load Spring method. Cheap, Easy and it works and is still barely slightly flexible. PLUS it's extremely low profile for a lowered vehicle.

  • @vela07
    @vela07 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome, now I know why people the split leafs and caltracs so much for the track. Did you have lowering blocks with the leafs? How'd those work for you?

    • @SS10guy012
      @SS10guy012  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the stock leafs I did. They worked fine. When I went to the bars, I got the 3" drop split leaf springs so I didn't need the blocks. I had to get new u bolts then and the shocks were almost too long as you can see in the video. I plan on moving the upper shock mount so they're at a more vertical position and will most likely have to get different shocks. Thanks for watching!

      @@SS10guy012 my problem for buying and running caltracs on my s10 is that I’m 90% a driver still yet and I’m lowered so idk if I can clear a 26” tire with the brackets

    • @SS10guy012
      @SS10guy012  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you do sacrifice some ground clearance with these. They do make a "low profile" set that only has 1 hole location at the front leaf spring mounting position instead of the two that I have. That would be better for street use but I would maybe look at going to a taller rear tire to get you some more clearance.

      Hello and sorry for the late response. These are the QA1 TS804 shocks. The are only single adjustable. The double adjustable version is TD804. Beware though, as you can see in the video, the shocks are almost completely compressed and dont leave alot of room for traveling with my lowered ride height. I would recommend looking for shorter shocks for street use. Thanks for watching!

    Not exactly a direct comparison here, with the non-Caltrac view showing old multi-leaf spring pack and lifting blocks. Look at the difference in length of the shock strut - this exaggerates axle tramp and twist.

    • @SS10guy012
      @SS10guy012  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its a comparison of one setup to another. Take one off, put the other on and compare the results. I don't care what "exaggerates" what. You can see in the video with your own eyes how much axle wrap there was with the stock setup (with lowering blocks) and completely gone with the Caltracs setup. I think you're just arguing to argue.

    • @jamesc4527
      @jamesc4527 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SS10guy012 @SS10guy012 I'm definitely not arguing with anyone. There is no denying that the Caltrac system works really well, you can see that very clearly. However in this video the "stock" suspension is not actually truly "stock" suspension (lifting blocks, stretched shock absorber etc.).
