The most frustrating part of the anime is that we all know, in real life, someone netdecking Kaiba's worst deck card-for-card would obliterate someone netdecking Yugi's best deck 9 times out of 10. The one loss is because the Yugi wanna-be is threatening to jump off a castle if he loses another one.

The Thundra remarks are a bit surprising to me because it has seen a lot of play in various Chaos decks, and particularly OCG lists of the mid 2000s; it was popular as deck thinning, a light monster, and a free discard for Graceful and Tribe.
Alternative was probably a honorable mention because it was only played once in the Dark Side of Dimensions movie. Most people that saw yugioh in their childhood probably never saw the card, so it makes sense to put it as a honorable mention.
Vorse Raider was really powerful back then. lvl 4's with 1900 ATK were considerably rare and a staple for Beatdown Decks. I think the only other 1900 ATK, lvl 4 monster around at that time was Archfiend Soldier.
Back when we were swinging mostly Dark Armed Dragon & Chaos Sorcerer type decks, Thunder Dragon was amazing. It provided card advantage, graveyard material for Chaos Sorcerer, and hella deck thinning. This was during about the same time we were running 3 Toon Table of Contents into one Toon Gemini Elf, the Gadget monsters and Destiny Hero Malicious all for the same reason. They didn't mess with Dark Armed Dragon, kept your deck of mostly limited spells running, emptied the deck of slow cards and critically set up Pot of Avarice. I miss you DAD meta.
I mean, I don't know if you're counting "historic" formats, but in contemporary Goat Thunder Dragon is considered a staple in Chaos decks, ie decks that run Chaos Sorcerer on top of BLS. It loads up the gy and it works as amazing discard fodder if you don't have sinister serpent in hand, and even then, thunder dragon does wonders with graceful charity, giving you two cards you're fine with discarding, which sinister serpent doesn't even do. Plus it lets you get more cards off of card destruction. It's not an every deck staple like the trinity(Graceful, Pot and Delinquent), but it's a significant part of one of the two decks that really gives the eponymous Goat control a run for its money.

Haven’t seen the WatchMojo video, but I’m guessing the reason why Alternative wasn’t on it was because it was only in the movie, not the show itself. Also, with Chaos Emperor Dragon, it was used in the duel vs Ziegfried where it just had its original effect and didn’t even kill him by itself, it wasn’t until Kaiba used DIMENSION FUSION to bring it back that he won.
As far I remember, in the anime, Chaos Emperor Dragon didn't have much impact. It used only against Seig, and only Kaiba did is to suicide it it so Seig's monster attack will go down due to Seig's monster's effect (he did it with two other Blue Eyes so the third one will win the duel). So it makes sense that Watch Mojo didn't include it.
I'm gonna say this in short: Yes. Kaiba is good. He tried playing Counters against Yugi in pyramid of light, so we know he builds his decks to beat anything. I like the distinction about Kaiba owning a card and actually using it. Kaiba canonicaly owns all 3 Blue eyes cards in existence. It wouldn’t be far fetched to assume that he owns copies of every tournament legal card in existence, there are collectors who enjoy having binders of entire sets just to own and might never play with. He owns a custom private jet and has bought a sports car on a whim, so he probably has enough money to burn on his favorite game.
On the topic of whether Kaiba owning a card makes it count - Kaiba canonically owned almost every if not every card, so I think evaluating the cards he actually played is 100% the way to go.
CED was Konami in its early days deciding to make the name as literal as possible. It threw the world into chaos, and when it dropped it really was The End.
This could actually make for a fun series, looking at different characters and seeing what cards they played that were pretty competitive. I mean just of the top of my head Joey had Jinzo, and Jaden had Dandylion and aqua dolphin.
JWittz did a really good video kinda like this where he actually analyzed Yugi’s cards in the anime and determined which ones helped him the most and which ones made him lose.
Blue-Eyes is just a very flexible card whether it's on the field, hand, deck or graveyard. It makes many other engines work and when you do use it it's usually when your opponent has exhausted their options of getting rid of all your other problematic cards only to deal with Blue-Eyes in the end.
I’m pretty sure that Kaiba played cyber jar, that’s also a very good and scary card from old school uigioh due to being able to blow up the field and get a plus 4 in cars economy. Attacking a face down monster was quite scary back when the old jar flip monsters weren’t on the van list, and cyber jar was definitely a card to be scared of! Not completely sure if he played it in a duel or not but it was in his deck in the nightmare troubador DS game, so he may have played it in the show?

Most cards on the banlist before synchro era were from his deck. Dated or not he's top tier and could easily handle GX era and early 5d. You should had added Cyber Jar, Kaiba played it against Noah which is another card on the banlist.

Yeah, sadly the one duel where Chaos Emperor Dragon was used didn't really do it justice. From what I remember Kaiba used it to nuke a field of Valkyries and then bought it, alongside a bunch of his banished dragons back with Dimension fusion for a beat down victory. Still cool to see those 2 crazy op cards used in the anime though.

I don't know how/if Kaiba used Chaos Emperor Dragon, but in GX both CED and BLS Envoy were referred to as cards that were banned from being played for being too powerful (or rather, BLS Envoy would be banned if it were found and proved to have existed, as its existance was only a rumor. It was revealed in that same episode that Yugi had BLS Envoy in his deck.)

No it wasn't, Deep-Eyes White Dragon's burn effect says your opponent takes 600 damage for every dragon in your GY *with a different name,* Kaiba may have played several sacky one-of's, but because he played so many dragons whose name becomes Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the GY he was only able to burn Yugi 1800 points instead of OTKing him when his Chaos Max died.
5:00 Kaiba never played Alternative in the Anime. It was played by "him" in a scripted duel event in the 2016 world championship, but it didnt appear in either the anime nor the movies.

Chaos Emperor Dragon in the anime had the exact same effect as it's real life counterpart. Kaiba banishes a Light and a Dark from his Grave to bring it out, then uses its effect to clear the field and burn Zigfried.
I guess speed duels and Duel Links aren’t what you’re talking about here, but Lord of D was very dominant in early speed duels, and then, of course, Enemy Controller (I guess you aren’t doing spells, either)
Going by the anime, the reason Chaos emperor and alternative would have been left off (again only going by the anime) Kaiba only uses the emperor in one duel, which was a filler arc. He makes a comeback in the duel with it, but he only used it the one time. Alternative is summoned one time in the last movie and had zero impact. In fact I don't even think it uses it's popping a monster effect. So going by the anime, Emperor only makes one appearance (noteworthy of a mention or bottom of the list) but alternative does nothing in the movie. Lol
I'll be honest, I've watched every episode of the original anime and completely forgot that CED was even in the show. Like, I had to go look up what episode it was summoned in because that entire arc was just so forgettable. Although the fact that I thought the first half of season 5 was a fever dream for something like 11 years probably helped.

I can understand why WatchMojo had their list set up differently, as you said they were looking at things from the perspective of the anime not the TCG. There's no way Chaos Emperor Dragon was going to be a top contender when it only showed up once in a filler arc that most people didn't even like. It's about the impact that the card had on the animes fanbase. For instance, my top spot would have probably been the 3 Egyptian Gods even though I know competitively they aren't the best by a long shot but that's not the point. They were the driving force behind the Battle City arc (the most beloved arc in the show) and were responsible for some of the most intense, epic, and memorable moments in the show. I will say WatchMojo maybe should have made it more clear that they were going more so off the anime's impact and not the TCGs but once you know that everything about the list makes sense.

I like the distinction about Kaiba owning a card and actually using it. Kaiba canonicaly owns all 3 Blue eyes cards in existence. It wouldn’t be far fetched to assume that he owns copies of every tournament legal card in existence, there are collectors who enjoy having binders of entire sets just to own and might never play with. He owns a custom private jet and has bought a sports car on a whim, so he probably has enough money to burn on his favorite game.
On the topic of whether Kaiba owning a card makes it count - Kaiba canonically owned almost every if not every card, so I think evaluating the cards he actually played is 100% the way to go.
CED was Konami in its early days deciding to make the name as literal as possible.
It threw the world into chaos, and when it dropped it really was The End.
This could actually make for a fun series, looking at different characters and seeing what cards they played that were pretty competitive. I mean just of the top of my head Joey had Jinzo, and Jaden had Dandylion and aqua dolphin.
JWittz did a really good video kinda like this where he actually analyzed Yugi’s cards in the anime and determined which ones helped him the most and which ones made him lose.
Blue-Eyes is just a very flexible card whether it's on the field, hand, deck or graveyard. It makes many other engines work and when you do use it it's usually when your opponent has exhausted their options of getting rid of all your other problematic cards only to deal with Blue-Eyes in the end.
I’m pretty sure that Kaiba played cyber jar, that’s also a very good and scary card from old school uigioh due to being able to blow up the field and get a plus 4 in cars economy. Attacking a face down monster was quite scary back when the old jar flip monsters weren’t on the van list, and cyber jar was definitely a card to be scared of! Not completely sure if he played it in a duel or not but it was in his deck in the nightmare troubador DS game, so he may have played it in the show?

He was summoned twice in a same duel. First time his effect was used right after he was summoned, second time he was revived with dimension fusion.

the duel kaiva used chaos emperor in, he plays it in such a way that it only stalls for a turn, instead of taking game with it. it wasnt as high impact as it could have been
Alternative White Dragon only showed up in the anime in the "Dark Side of Dimensions" movie, which was a few years ago.
Thunder dragon also sees play in current year goat format in some of the tier 2 strats.
Thunder dragon was a good card in goat format because it thinned out your deck of 2 cards and have you extra cards to use for discard effects.
Most cards on the banlist before synchro era were from his deck. Dated or not he's top tier and could easily handle GX era and early 5d. You should had added Cyber Jar, Kaiba played it against Noah which is another card on the banlist.

Yeah, sadly the one duel where Chaos Emperor Dragon was used didn't really do it justice. From what I remember Kaiba used it to nuke a field of Valkyries and then bought it, alongside a bunch of his banished dragons back with Dimension fusion for a beat down victory. Still cool to see those 2 crazy op cards used in the anime though.

I don't know how/if Kaiba used Chaos Emperor Dragon, but in GX both CED and BLS Envoy were referred to as cards that were banned from being played for being too powerful (or rather, BLS Envoy would be banned if it were found and proved to have existed, as its existance was only a rumor. It was revealed in that same episode that Yugi had BLS Envoy in his deck.)

Kaiba's best card was the one that he used during the obelisk vs slifer duel. It made yugi discard half his hand, then kaiba got to draw a card for each one discarded. I forgot the name though.

This is totally beside the point, but I think it’s super cool that a card as ancient as Thunder Dragon suddenly became really competitive out of nowhere. Before ‘Thunder Dragons’ became a thing, the only time I ever thought of Thunder Dragon was in the context of YGO: Forbidden Memories, and it doesn’t even have its discard/search effect in that game.

No it wasn't, Deep-Eyes White Dragon's burn effect says your opponent takes 600 damage for every dragon in your GY *with a different name,* Kaiba may have played several sacky one-of's, but because he played so many dragons whose name becomes Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the GY he was only able to burn Yugi 1800 points instead of OTKing him when his Chaos Max died.

Chaos Emperor Dragon in the anime had the exact same effect as it's real life counterpart. Kaiba banishes a Light and a Dark from his Grave to bring it out, then uses its effect to clear the field and burn Zigfried.

I guess speed duels and Duel Links aren’t what you’re talking about here, but Lord of D was very dominant in early speed duels, and then, of course, Enemy Controller (I guess you aren’t doing spells, either)
Going by the anime, the reason Chaos emperor and alternative would have been left off (again only going by the anime) Kaiba only uses the emperor in one duel, which was a filler arc. He makes a comeback in the duel with it, but he only used it the one time. Alternative is summoned one time in the last movie and had zero impact. In fact I don't even think it uses it's popping a monster effect. So going by the anime, Emperor only makes one appearance (noteworthy of a mention or bottom of the list) but alternative does nothing in the movie. Lol

I'll be honest, I've watched every episode of the original anime and completely forgot that CED was even in the show. Like, I had to go look up what episode it was summoned in because that entire arc was just so forgettable.
Although the fact that I thought the first half of season 5 was a fever dream for something like 11 years probably helped.

I can understand why WatchMojo had their list set up differently, as you said they were looking at things from the perspective of the anime not the TCG. There's no way Chaos Emperor Dragon was going to be a top contender when it only showed up once in a filler arc that most people didn't even like. It's about the impact that the card had on the animes fanbase. For instance, my top spot would have probably been the 3 Egyptian Gods even though I know competitively they aren't the best by a long shot but that's not the point. They were the driving force behind the Battle City arc (the most beloved arc in the show) and were responsible for some of the most intense, epic, and memorable moments in the show. I will say WatchMojo maybe should have made it more clear that they were going more so off the anime's impact and not the TCGs but once you know that everything about the list makes sense.
You should just do this as a series with all the characters, no need to do it only if Watchmojo does a video.
