    First thing to consider is the graphics card . If you got a laptop with a decent graphics card every thing will come along. No need to worry about processor or RAM ,storage .So gaming laptop is cheap and faster than most of workstation laptops out there.

      True mate, dont ever think of buying a laptop without dedicated gpu for architecture, there are many popular ultra books out there,out of which many dont have a dedicated graphics, even many dell xps dont have that. I have seen many youtube channels promoting these laptops coz of lack of knowledge. some times last year laptop models with great gpu outperforms current gen by far.

    Tbh, it seems lots of people look at this kind of video to justify buying Macbook but forget the hardware aspect and importantly OS compatibility, it's understandable since people assume that expensive = fast.

Graphic card- Any 2000 series Nvidia or it competition from Radion graphic... Also... laptop are for presentation... still capable of running most of your needed programs... 🤓

      Very true, can't go wrong with the specs you just mentioned - although we think using an SSD as a boot drive is also needed these days, instead of solely relying on HDDs for storage. (Although, this is something you can modify yourself later on - just check out our 'how to upgrade your laptop's hard drive' vid for tips 😃👍).
      And of course, you are right, desktops will outperform laptops. Every time! Thanks for watching! 👌Laz

    So I'm confused. Every single article and list I've read has put MacBook pro at the top of interior design laptop lists. I despise Windows (have always had it), and was excited to try a Mac for the first time. Not even sure how to pick at this point

    • @dantierandbalogh
      @dantierandbalogh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have yet to test them, but have heard good things about this new line of Mac's with their own M1 chips. - they should get the job done!
      Although I will say that some 3D & architecture programs have been optimised for Windows systems - do a little research, and find out what your most used software packages recommend using!
      In this day & age you can get very capable computers using either systems, so some of it does boil down to personal taste & preference...hope this helps!👌Laz

    • @paulphoenix007
      @paulphoenix007 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, most architecture programs are "rooted" on windows such as revit and are not ported for m1, you will have to use parallels to use them, and won't be as fast as in an original windows..
      Also an windows laptop with a rtx card will be much faster for rendering..
      I would like to see some m1 running large autocad projects and rendering large and complex scenes, things that no one shows in TH-cam . It's easy to show m1 running basic house projects... Even my xeon workstation sometimes slows down with these kind of complex things.

    Hi, really enjoyed this video, it was quite informative. I am an interior design student and am unsure as to if my laptop is good enough to last me through this degree. It is an Acer Spin 5, 16GB RAM, has an Intel Core i7, and I believe it has an intel iris plus graphics card. Do you think this laptop would be strong enough? I have been told that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 graphics card would work, so is mine around the same in ability?

    Hello there! Is colour accuracy important for architecture?

    • @dantierandbalogh
      @dantierandbalogh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I would say so... Just like any design focussed career. Tbh the ThinkPad has a messed up colour calibrator (pantone) that doesn't work amazingly🤦‍♀️ But each computer (tailored for design work), usually has a colour spectrum & you can choose which is suitable for the type of work you are doing👍

    Very informative !! I’m an architect student searching for my first laptop,, is the HP omen 15 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD of storage, with a AMD RYZEN 7 processor an alternative that will last me long? The laptops are very expensive so I want one that will last me a couple of years at least

    • @dantierandbalogh
      @dantierandbalogh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, both of us are using similar configurations on our laptops to the one you have just mentioned, and we are both pretty happy with our 'workhorses' - been using them for a couple years now without any problems as well - so in that sense yes, it does sounds like a safe bet!
      Tbh, we are both on Intel (i7) processors, so we have yet to test out AMD's Ryzen line, but I'm hearing good things - and the HP omen sounds like great value for the money! One thing I would look up, if people have tested Ryzen 7 processors working with software you are using/will be using for your studies (eg. Rendering software, Adobe suite, etc.) Hope this helps 🙂 D+B

    Hello there! Me again 😊 I heard people saying that RTX 3050 4GB VRAM will not perform as well as an RTX 1660Ti with 6GB VRAM. Is that true? Can the 3050 work well for architecture?

    • @Manulajes
      @Manulajes 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same question here! Right now I’m leaning more towards the 3050 because of the ray tracing capabilities and DLSS. If ever I do go for it fingers-crossed that 4gb Vram will be enough.

      You will run out of RAM by loading heavy Revit or rhino programs, which is why everyone agrees that the 1660ti is better. Having ray tracing isn't a big deal year as most softwares haven't been updated to take advantage other than some render engines. I definitely would go for a 1660ti over the 3050
