  • In this video we sailed the 28 miles from Anegada to Jost Van Dyke. We arrived in Great Harbor and anchored near shore. We ventured ashore, had a chat with Foxy at his bar. We have know Foxy for 25 years and used to enjoy hearing him play guitar and make up songs for a crowd of sailors. He does not play anymore but he is still full of stories, jokes and is a proud Trump supporter. We then headed over to White Bay for some sun, fun and rum.
We spent the day at the Soggy Dollar Bar and Hendo's Hide Out. The Soggy Dollar is famous for the original Pain Killer drink. JJ mixes the best one in the BVIs. The Soggy Dollar got its name because the only way to get to the beach years ago was only by boat. Sailors had to wade to shore getting their dollars soggy on the way. Hence the name? The name of their featured drink the Pain Killer is self explanatory. Have a couple and you will feel no pain.
After a great day on the beach we headed back to the boat for supper on board. Lynn and Brenda drug me into Foxy's for some late night drinking and dancing.
What sets the BVIs apart are the many local beach bars that dot the islands. I have sailed throughout the Caribbean and have not found a more friendly and welcoming place for sailors than the British Virgin Islands.
    Another great day!

Thanks for bringing back some great memories of our own charter, and the day we spent at White Bay. Pure magic.

    Foxy is the best.
We took dingy ride to soggy dollar. Next time I'll taxi like you to see more of the island. Beautiful beach.

Glad you liked it. With all the crappy weather we have had I have finally got around to getting these done. A few months late but it is fun to look back on. Hope to make more memories soon if this Covid thing clears up. Cheers!

Long gone are the days when the soggy dollar earned it’s name because there was no road to there at all. You had to get out of the boat wade to the shore and pay for your drinks with,,,,,,,,,,,, you guessed it SOGGY DOLLARS!!! But alas those halcyon days are gone.

We first chartered in the BVI in the early 90s. Things have definitely changed but it is still a beautiful place for a sailing vacation.

Our Gang is going to Jost Van Dyke in February of 2022. How much to budget for the taxis?

The taxi was $3.00 per person one way, at that time. The walk is pretty but the hill is big going over.
