    I took care of 2 elderly women for 6 years. They both died around the same time. I heard them on the phone allllll the time telling their families how grateful they were for me, what an angel I was, and that they couldn't do it without me.
    When they passed, I wasnt informed until I showed up to clean and called their kids and found they had passed, and been buried.
    I treated those ladies like family, and their family treated me like I didnt even exist.
    It was a hard lesson to learn.

But they need to understand that investing in specialized knowledge is a business expense. They can either pay up front, and apply the knowledge now......or learn the lessons the hard way, and pay over years of making the same mistakes. Well done.

    Angela, I think you forgot a few valid points.
    1) if cleaners are leaving after training could the pay be too low for how hard the work physically is?
    2) cleaners are considered low skill when the work requires MANY skills and good health.
    3) poverty is often the reason for poor diet. Often a lifetime of poor nutrition and the inability to afford quality foods on cleaners salary is to blame for why house cleaners might lack energy.
    It is very important that employers become more aware of how THEY might contribute to the problems they may face with employees.

    I really enjoy cleaning my home, I see it as more of a hobby than a chore. I have a 4 bed, main bathroom, en-suite & downstairs WC. I mentioned to my mother about maybe starting a cleaning business of my own, a one woman show obviously, as right now I’m just a housewife. She would always support me but as she wisely said when you turn a hobby into a job, it comes with all new expectations and guidelines, it probably won’t be enjoyable for me much longer.

    Angela, we had a very different exchange on another one of your videos, but I'm a small business owner and I need to stand on a ladder for the standing ovation this video deserves!
    People love to say "I'm a business Owner." Great! But that's not success... In fact, you almost always start worse off than an employee. if years later you're still living paycheck to paycheck and working harder than any employee, WHY are you a business owner? Makes me nuts.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for sharing! And thank you for your kind words. You are 100% correct, being a business owner is no cakewalk. It takes a special kind of person to run a business through the grind and come out on the other side with a profitable and sellable enterprise. 👏👏👏

    • @charliehorse8686
      @charliehorse8686 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AskAngelaBrown "Sellable"... Ouch.
      My business is putting $4K per month into my retirement account (after my own living expenses and taxes) and it occupies about 10 hours of my time per week. Sounds sellable right?
      Problem is, any new owner has to be a very specific type of person, and I wonder if they exist. They must be mechanically inclined, highly computer savvy, and excel at teaching, communicating, judging character, listening, etc. And they must be emotionally stable enough to swallow their pride on occasion to maintain a reputation.
      Such rare people exist, but I have doubts they actually buy businesses. I think they would start their own instead.
      Now, I could "almost" take that $4K per month and use it to pay a Manager who would be "sold" as part of the business, but here in California $48K per year isn't quite enough to maintain a person worthy of such a position. Instead, the retirement account seems to be a better place to put those profits.

    Angela. Thank you for your video.
    Just a question. For cleaning I usually use old light coloured towels (so I can see any dirt) cut into pieces to clean. I've tried micro fibre towels but end up cleaning with cut up towels. What I would like to say is how often should I put them in the wash basket, can I wash my other laundry at the same time. Also tea towels to dry my dishes.
    I use a sponge to clean the dishes. Also the sponge I wash my dishes . Then I'm thinking the sponge could be contaminated. Sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to get things in order . Thank you in advance.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Patricia, If you are cleaning just for your home, do a load of laundry with just cloths and towels. If you are using microfiber towels put them in a mesh laundry bag. amzn.to/3rlngud you can wash the mesh laundry bag along with your regular laundry and the mesh bags will keep the microfiber towels from picking up lint from your other clothes.
      As for the kitchen sponges, you can toss the sponge in the dishwasher right along with your dishes. The hot water will sanitize the sponge along with your dishes.

    • @KatarinaS.
      @KatarinaS. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't wash cleaning rags with my other laundry, except pet cleanup towels, and especially not with personal or kitchen towels. Cleaning rags are full of nasty germs, cleaning chemicals, and usually extremely dirty, whereas the rest of my laundry is nowhere near that bad. Cleaning rags are done in very hot water (I actually turn up the hot water tank when I do them) with ample detergent and washed separately from everything else except for pet towels. Then I wash them a second time with bath mats. This might seem extreme to some people but I'm a bit of a germaphobe and the thought of casually throwing cleaning rags in with my kitchen towels turns my stomach. Actually, I boost the water temp on all towels, sheets, and socks and underwear in order to kill germs and clean thoroughly. Cold water doesn't clean nearly as well or kill germs, regardless what the detergent companies say. Would you use cold water when cleaning dishes?

    Hi Angela. I have a question: I have a trail of the tiniest little ants ever on my shelving cabinet over the toilet (I don't think they're sugar ants) what cleaning product can I use to stop this trail of little bitty ants? I thought maybe they were attracted to toothpaste that may have smeared on the cabinet, or maybe my makeup? But I've wiped it all down many times with an all purpose cleaning spray and they continue to come back! I don't know what they are attracted to.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm not a fan of killing critters and as long as they stay out side I let them live. Inside the house I have other rules. :-( The ant bait traps work really well. These are safe around children amzn.to/3dy5BZE and you can leave one or two near where the trail is. There is also a liquid version that is sweet. We've used these with great success amzn.to/2IuU4Po we had a trail of big ants that came in under the back door and made their way to the kitchen. By the time we discovered them they were through the house and under the fridge in the kitchen. A gigantic trail of them. These liquid ones you open and we set them right near the exit of the back door. The ants grab the sweet liquid and take it back to the colony and like a virus it infects them and they die. It takes a couple of days and you will be tempted to spray them with something - but don't. If you kill the existing ones, more will come. If you let them go back to their colony they will stop coming around. After about 3 days we've never seen another ant in the house.

    • @2Ryled
      @2Ryled 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watch to see where they are coming from.. U have to calk after they die or another colony will get in later. You can also spray outside your house in that area. After they die off. I just got rid of tiny ants. For yrs couldnt figure out where they were getting in. Found out they coming out from under the cover plate on a light switch! So we have to calk that and look for places outside like the siding.

" I think a different product needs to be used on glossy tile It's maintains a "smudgy film ". Not sure why. I cleaned them myself again Saturday with dish soap and water and same results. Not sure what is going on....🤷‍♀️" ... I am using a ph neutral cleaner with a twist mop, I already tried the spray mop with microfiber cloth and still looks bad. Can you please tell me the best way to clean glossy tile ?

      The key here is "new floor". It's possible that there is a coating or varnish on the floor (often in new floors it's baked into the floorboards themselves.) And the floors require nothing more than a damp microfiber cloth. It sounds like there is "too much product" soap or otherwise on the floor. She has warranty information for the flooring installed if it is a new floor. Ask if you can read the instructions or contact the manufacturer to find out what the culprit is. My guess - too much soap.

      Have you tried distilled water or homeowner should know what cleaner is recommended by floor manufacturer. It would say it in the directions. Or they can call where they got it. If not known, try the alcohol/vinegar/dish soap.(seen on utube) Use the smallest amount to wipe floor. Barely damp. Like 4 sprays for whole floor.You might need to go over it with a microfiber or dry microfiber mop after, to dry it to remove streaks. My pergo floors are streaky no matter if it's distilled or purified. U only need a small 5" spray bottle. So drying it is key. Ask if her water is softened that will leave oily film on floor. Good luck

    Big mistake is not listen gut feeling, when you come first time to customer and you "feel" that this person will be problematic. You can be 100 % sure this will not change. From my expirience better trust "it" . Better to quit sooner then to struggle with some madman...

      LOL. YES! THIS! And, I would like to add that the same rules apply when it comes to employees. Problematic employees often become madmen...

      It's great if they treat you this way - the key is to keep the professional boundaries in sight. Once those boundaries are crossed (it's SO HARD, if not impossible) to go back to professional boundaries. Time is money in the cleaning business, and the "family" clients will eat the most of your time for the least amount of pay.

      @@AskAngelaBrown Its funny you ask!!! I tend to get lonely customers that I feel sorry for and become too friendly. I have one now but, I do insisted on working my shift before I chat and I do let her know I'm on the clock and you will have to pay me extra if I stay longer😊😊😊. But, for the most part I've learned my lesson.. Thank you for your valuable information!!!

      @@AskAngelaBrown my husband is a teamster dump truck driver. I should have gotten a cdl and I would have had an amazing pension right now. I supported my family during the last downturn in2009 as a house cleaner when most men in construction weren’t working so I am glad I have good skills and didn’t loose my house when a lot of people did. I really appreciate the great benefits my husband has as a teamster.
