Northern Central 17: Steaming into Civil War History (Dynamo Productions Photo Charter)

  • On November 8, 2021 Dynamo Productions hosted a photo charter at the Northern Central Railroad starring locomotive 17 "York." The York is a replica of an 1860s locomotive design and with its string of period-matching coaches provided the perfect centerpiece for a Civil War themed photo shoot along the NCRR, the very rail line that carried Lincoln to Gettysburg. The event ran from sunup to sundown and covered the entire operational portion of the railroad, focusing on the newly reopened stretch north of Hanover Jct. through Seven Valleys to the Howard Tunnel. Huge thanks to Dynamo and the Northern Central crew for putting on a great event, I had a wonderful time and got some great shots of an era of railroading rarely depicted in preservation.

    Stellar video! Loved the closer, very unique, and very fitting. Perfectly captures the era the NCR and our charter hoped to present. We hope you'll join us again soon for another charter - perhaps another NCR event; we had many locations and scenes planned out that we simply could not cram into one day.

    How lovely to see a new build steam loco of the classic 440 wood burner locos of the 19th century.
    Steam is probably the closest thing to a living machine that there ever was and will be.
    What young child today would not be awestruck at the spectacle of a steam loco.

    This photo charter was great but the ending with the music and those lovely photos really made this feel like it was the Civil War times I especially loved it when they posed with the locomotive as railroad and soldiers of that time did. The music I loved as well. Its events like these that show us time travel is possible even for brief or short moments.

    Is the york based on any loco in particular

    • @SmokyMtnSteam
      @SmokyMtnSteam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not strictly, the original NCRR had a York but it was an earlier design. This one was, if I'm remembering right, built to the plans of the UP 119 at Golden Spike NHP.
