  • In this video I go through the process of changing the HVAC blend door actuator, If you have a Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep mace in the past 20 or so years, chances are you have heard that clicking. It is a clicking noise behind the dash on Jeep Patriot and Dodge Nitro in particular. Its not a very hard job but you are working blind, everything is by feel.

      THANK YOU VERY MUCH. SOME PEOPLE THING I TALK AND RAMBLE TOO MUCH, I TRY TO MAKE IT FUN AND ENTERTAINING PLUS SHOW THINGS FROM THE PROSPECTIVE OF A NOVICE, I'M NOT A MECHANIC, I HAVE NO TRAINING, I'M SELF TAUGHT, ANYONE WHO IS PROFICIENT IN THEIR CRAFT AND DOES IT EVERY DAY CAN MAKE IT LOOK EASY AND GLOSS OVER IMPORTANT DETAILS THAT PEOPLE WHO ARE NEW TO IT DOESN'T JUST KNOW. ALSO I SHOW WORKING THROUGH A PROBLEM SUCH AS SELECTING THE TOOL SO OTHERS KNOW THE WHAT WHY AND MAYBE HELP THEM WITH THEIR OWN DECISIONS. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND SUPPORT

    I’ve had mine for a few months and have had this issue since day 2; so glad to know it’s easy! I’ll be doing this tonight and I appreciate this video! If you do any other work on your wife’s Patriot please be sure to upload it!

      FORTUNATELY FOR US ITS BEEN A PRETTY GOOD VEHICLE, THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAS NOT FALLEN UNDER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, OIL CHANGES, BRAKE PADS ARE LITERALLY ALL ITS NEEDED, WHICH I HAVE VIDEOS OUT FOR. IF SOMETHING COMES UP THOUGH I WILL SHARE IT.

      @@2LabsGarage so far we had rear control arms and front shocks; plus the actuator which isn’t too bad at 150k. Wasn’t able to pick it up yesterday but will be today haha

    If you pull the carpet down that connects to the dash and remove the glove box it gives you much easier access to feel for the screw and use either a ratcheting right angle tool or nubby screwdriver with both hands in there. Going thru just the glove box is much more difficult.

    I had to do this exact fix on my wife's Patriot. Luckily I didn't have to actually replace the actuator, I was able to clean it and lubricate it and put it right back in. My latest fixes for it have been replacing the bad ground terminals under the hood. It's an Ohio car and they just rot away, throwing every dash light and code, killing parking lights, etc. Fun times.

      this one had a broken shaft holding in the gear, Pretty crappy design I think I plan to take the old one and replace it with steel shafts. In VA we don't have salted roads to deal with often but being on the coast we get salt spray in the air. I appreciate the info and will start keeping an eye on the ground terminals. Overall its been a pretty good vehicle. Nice Hornet by the way!

    I have a 2015 Patriot making a noise on the left side, under the steering wheel. Is that a another actuator? Does a 2015 have one on each side(one under steering, one under glove box)?

      there is one in that area for the heater ac blend door, I have not had to change that one yet, I've heard its easier but I haven't had problems with it.... yet

    what if (buddies) jeep patriot only has heat coming out of far drivers side vent? vents switch as normal from defrost to dash to floor but only far left side has heat

    I just replaced the actuator and I still have the clicking noise. Do you know if there would be another cause for the noise? I’m hoping I did not get a faulty replacement part

      I understand there's another actuator in the dash behind the console but i don't know its function or exact location as i have not had issue with it. The gear the actuator drives may be damaged. Also you might have gotten a bad part. Last week I was changing the water pump in my Evinrude outboard, the new pump housing was warped and I ended up cannibalizing the gaskets from the new one to rebuild the old one. It happens. I took my old actuator apart to try to understand what went wrong, I was not at all impressed with the build quality.

    hello! i have a 07 patriot and the wire that is supposed to control the gear when you want to switch from defrost to vent is broken from the hook. how do i go about replacing it? thanks!

    • @2LabsGarage
      @2LabsGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am not familiar with that specific wire, I can only speak in generalities of splicing wires, The most important thing is disconnect the battery while messing with wires, you don't want to mess with energized wires My method would probably if there's enough slack in the wires to just insert a but connector and heat shrink. if you need more legnth, add in a section of the same gauge wire. I have a video where on my Thunderbird I have to repair some broken wires, while a different vehicle, the concepts, principals and practices are the same, th-cam.com/video/ZeB18xO406E/w-d-xo.html

      @@2LabsGarage thank you for the tip. i was wrong it wasn’t a wire it was a cord that connects to a hook that moved the gears to allow you to change the direction of the air. now i have to manually move the gear with my hands if i want to change the air flow

      Honestly I'd have to see it for myself , I'm thinking it mat be a part you have to order, bicycle brake cable may work, idk
