What people need to realise is that the seven dwarves were main protagonists in Snow White. They were heroes who protected Snow White. They never lived in caves but in a cottage which Snow White dutifully looked after as these little people went off to do a hard days work every day in the mines. It was a very co-operative relationship and nothing demeaning towards little people.
They also were not midgets. Dwarves were a particular race, as in the Lord of the Rings, where they were portrayed as brave, strong, and heroic. The Woke just hate everything.

Peter Dinklage was right. It is stupid to cater to wokism to turn the title character whose name is Snow White because she is so beautiful because her skin is as white as snow into a brown skinned latino. That is sooo progressive but at the same time they stick to the offensive old stereotypes of dwarfs. Dwarfs are depicted as cute little men that the beautiful woman stays with and is protected by but they are not any thing a beautiful woman wants and she falls in love with the normal sized man she never saw before. Dwarfs are depicted as not even human. So of course she wouldn't fall in love with one of them. They should scrap the remake. The whole idea is outdated. The animated film would never be made today.

This is not 'Progressive,' this is 'Regressive.' Most of the things I have seen people call 'progressive' are not progressing us towards a better world at all. Dwarfs not being able to play the role of dwarfs and men competing in women sports would be two obvious examples.

He was making the point that Disney changed the race of snow white just to be "more progressive", because we all know white is bad and evil and needs to be erased or rewritten using someone from the coveted POC community as a social token so they can go around and say "look... look how inclusive and progressive we are". I think what peter said was a dig at Disney for changing the race of snow white not for casting dwarfs.
Especially since little people formed a union in Hollywood after Wizard of Oz, and many other studios joined in to be able to offer folks parts in films that 'avaerage' size could never do. Especially in light of Dinklage becomming a star because of his 'stature', this is almost a sick gate keeping.

I don’t understand Peter’s issue. I don’t view the dwarves as disrespectful characters at all. They are the heart and soul of the story and ultimately the heroes.
I think his point is more of the fact that the whole story is not woke appropriate and it has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the lead actress.

I think it depends on the movie and the company. When it comes to Tolkien stuff, it has been established what kinds of Dwarfs they are in that universe and it would be difficult to have actual dwarf actors play them. But here we have Disney, the most woke company on the planet, casting a Latina actress as Snow White and going on a crusade about how "dated" the original movie is. I can understand where both Hornswoggle and Dinklage are coming from. It's not dissimilar from debates that have and continue to occur within the black community, for example, about the types of roles that black actors should play versus being in the movies at all. Hattie McDaniel was the first black person to win an oscar and she was criticized by the black community for taking roles where she plays a maid since this was one of view few types of roles available to black actors at the time.
I think part of the issue Dinklage has here is that there need to be more types of roles for little people, not just fantasy dwarves or comedic punchlines. Little people should not be only seen playing the same types of roles all the time. more writers should be free to tell more kinds of stories that can portray more types of roles where little people get cast, not because they are little, but because of the personality of the role and the little person's acting ability to match it.
And Hornswoggle is arguing we need to get more little people in more roles period. the type of role is irrelevant. Additionally, to some people, those roles are great opportunities for various reasons and a dream. There are obviously a limited number of roles designed to be able to be filled by little people and any role that can, needs to be made as big as possible to bring more visibility in the mainstream culture.
regardless, Disney is pandering no matter what they do. to believe any company whose number one objective is to make money cares about diversity or portraying a diverse array of stories is absurd. if Disney actually cared, they would not advertise their latest projects based on the ethnicity of the casts, they would advertise based on the actual interesting premise of the stories and personality traits of the characters.
at the end of the day, I don't care who I'm watching or what they look like. if the story and/or characters are entertaining or intriguing, you have me.

They were also rich and had a great work ethic, not to mention a caring attitude taking in Snow White. They were also mythical creatures, dwarfs in fantasy are a race not a condition. Best I can assume is that his role in GOT was based on a real character, a man who had a birth defect. The 7 Dwarves on the other hand are not real men, they are 7 creatures from a fairytale based off the fear they had of the unknown back then. They don't even have real names. I would agree that would be petty, but they didn't even let him explain his full position. Tyrion was a fully developed character who happened to be small. @@dishonoredundead Except major companies, especially Disney, usually sides with the self-proclaimed victims out of fear of offending anybody-even if there are other short people who believe it would be a good idea. So it’s not really a free dialogue.
