  • Runway Centre Line viewpoint. Saturday 5th December 2020. Earlier this week and building on the success of the #SaveLandor campaign; British Airways officially announced that the Landor livery747, G-BNLY would be preserved at Dunsfold Aerodrome, the home of fellow 747 G-CIVW which flew here on 22nd October 2020. (See film on my channel).
Today G-BNLY left Cardiff airport where it has been in store since June and took the 40 minute flight to Dunsfold as flight BA 9154. The aircraft flew around the airport before making the approach and landing into the prevailing wind, landing on Runway 07. I've captured these moments in this film standing at the dead centreline viewpoint from Runway 07/25.
This aircraft began life in the Landor scheme, so it is especially fitting that it should have been preserved, representing perhaps the finest period in BAs aviation history:- "The world's favourite airline".
At the end we hear Dunsfold Tower welcoming the crew and giving a fitting testimony to this beautiful aircraft. Enjoy this short film capturing this historic occasion.

Great footage! Since all three retro 747s, and one Chatham Dockyard 747 are going to be preserved for future generations to see, I think we can call that a win.

Time will tell. I distinctly remember reading somewhere the owners of Dunsfold saying they wanted to sell the land for housing as aviation wasnt important so I'm hoping they've changed their minds or its liable to be another Bruntingthorpe situation.

@Raj Nirvan Yes good plan Raj. Access is quite restricted to Dunsfold but I'm sure once Covid is on its way out and the aircraft are opened up as a museum piece, it will be much easier to visit. The airfield is being re-developed for housing over the next year or so, with plans to create a purpose built museum where I understand these aircraft will then be stored- so you may be best waiting a couple of years until they are indoors and on display!! @Paul Palmtree Hi Paul, no I don't think it is now possible - G-CIVW is now safely at Dunsfold with G-BNLY. G-BYGC is going to Bro Tathan Business Park at St Athan Wales, where it will be maintained as a heritage piece by e-Cube solutions; and G-CIVB is at Kemble Cotswolds where it will be used for a variety of purposes including business, conferencing and private hire venue as well as a cinema and educational facility for local schools. @Sterlingjob. Yes that would be right. Most of the BA 747s had exceeded 100,000 hours - and BNLY was one of the oldest. G-CIVA had flown a similar number. One of the “youngest” in terms of hours was G-CIVW (also at Dunsfold - see my film on my channel for the go-around and final landing!) which had flown around 90,000 hours from memory and was in v good condition....
