I acquired a jacket like this in the Coast Guard back in the 70s, but it was listed as an arctic jacket. Loved it. Don't remember how I got it, but I put a Coast Guard tag over the USN. Don't know how I lost it. Sigh.
Recently got a black N1 repro from ATF for only $50 total with shipping (closeout). It's incredibly warm, comfortable, and looks + fits great. Only issue is that it's so warm that I probably won't be able to wear it much since the area where I live has mild winters, usually hovering around the 30s to mid 40s.
Nice video, enjoyed it. The Buzz jacket is pretty nice although for the price I would expect numerical sizing. I've seen other manufactures do this and something seems to get lost in the transition. Is the Buzz jacket made in the U.S.?
If I would have known that these were going to be such a hot commodity, I would have acquired one when I was on active duty. They were great jackets on the ship.
Could you advise how the N1 jacket should fit - snug or room for thick sweater underneath? My fit seems slightly trim allowing for a thin sweater. Wondering if this is how it is supposed to look / feel? Thanks.
Hi it really depends on what you want to wear under it. If you’re fine with a lighter sweater then it sounds like a nice fit. These jackets are pretty warm as-is so unless it’s super cold I think you’ll be fine.
Just bought an original one in great condition, what do you recommend for care and maintenance? I don’t want to risk ruining a great jacket when I need to wash it.
Great you found one! I'd really not do much to it. Don't Wash It! If it's smelly, just leave it in the sun for a little. I think washing will ruin it. I'd add a little bees wax to the zipper to help it work better, but besides that, patch up any holes and wear it!
One thing is that N-1s were never khaki. They were issued in olive drab only. The reason why people think they are in khaki, is because they faded to khaki, due to salt air mainly. Sun also faded the jacket.
Really nice jacket Derek, I had a Buzz Ricksons N1 but it was more of a tan colour - I prefer yours as its more Olive Green. Is this just the lighting or do they have Olive Green ones as well?
Thanks. When I bought it they had 3 versions I think. This one, the Demotex and the William Gibson. I think there was only one color for the standard. It's super close to the original too.
I have the “ Real McCoy “ in this colour and an “ Eat Dust “ in blue , the cut of the eat dust feels better on my body and was half the price of the real McCoy I wear it most every day in winter.
The video is solid. However, he does not wear Buzz jacket. Nor does he show if the zipper is metal. This is very unhelpful. Asian modals tend to be tighter than vintage original. This prevents sweater etc. Look at photo of Paul Newman in the original. All the best! I recommend SM Wholesale USA for a decent coat for practical use/
That jacket looks too big on you. I don't know why modern Americans like oversized clothing. Even the not overweight Americans wear a few sizes too big.
I had two of these. I have trouble because I have wide shoulders and need to find a jacket that fits, but the downside is they're too wide for me in the middle. These are not fashion jackets but made for Wartime use. The WWII original is slightly smaller and fits better.
Thank you. You have warmed this old mans heart.
Thank you!

They really are great winter jackets.
Fantastic jackets. The Buzz looks really good. The original, even better. 👍🍻
Thanks! I 100% agree

What a fantastic deal! Just leave it unzipped with a T-shirt! Shame to not wear it.
What is ATF Please am european
@@antoniobranco8005 AFT is At The Front. They make and sell reproduction WWII clothing.
@@derekdoeschannel thanks pal
Great video and I’ve subscribed- I’ve had a couple of N1 myself. Love it. Great jackets.
Thank you! It's one of my favorites.
Just bought a Bronson. I have to say I'm impressed.
They make a great jacket I have to admit.
Great video! I've been wanting the Real Mccoy N-1 but decided on the more affordable Bronson one.
Thanks! Bronson isn’t bad till you can find an affordable Real McCoy.
Nice! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!

Thanks I’ve seen them both ways. Buzz is made in Japan I believe. I think the originals are my size and not by numerical.

So many things I wish I knew then. They're jacket jackets on and off ships!
i have an original ww2 n1 but it is very stiff canvas which i like.
i would like to buy a repro
There are a lot of choices today on a repro.

I just ordered a A2 deck jacket my local surplus doesn’t carry them they hard to find
There are a few repro's out there that make them if you got one through them or did you get an original?
What's considered the more traditional N1 deck jacket color - olive or navy?
The Khaki Olive color is more traditional.
Thanks.
Where did you find the original?
I bought it in a group of jackets
One thing is that N-1s were never khaki. They were issued in olive drab only. The reason why people think they are in khaki, is because they faded to khaki, due to salt air mainly. Sun also faded the jacket.
Thanks I didn't know that.
How does the A-2 jacket compare to this one?
I really don't know as I've never worn the Navy A-2 to compair the two.
Both great but original definitely has the edge. Drape is way better. Not sure if that's just a closer size match explanation though.
Totally agree. But the Buzz might get there in a few decades.
that's a great looking jacket and now I want to find one that's not so expensive
Keep looking. I paid less for the original than the reproduction!

Sorry I don’t have one. Do a search for a shop that Carrie’s them.
How tall are you if you have an XL size I am 1.80 meters tall if you are shorter I will have to order a larger size.
I'm 5'10" or 1.79 meters tall. You should be pretty close to me and sizing then.
@@derekdoeschannel oke great thanks.
how tall are you and which size did you wear?
I'm 5'10. and went with the Buzz X-Large (44) but have the original in a 42.

Hi it depends on the year and color. Anywhere between $40-$300
FYI: I was in Underwater Salvage;
That is quite exciting. Pretty dangerous work for sure.

Thanks! I wear both the original and Buzz in the video. Both have metal zippers.
外国の方もバズを着るのですね?少し驚いたのと嬉しく思いました。
Those that us that know about Buzz seek it out. It's a great reproduction company.
私もバズのB-15とL-2を持ってます。バズ仲間ですね!

Nice group you have. I think there might be one or two places, but I ordered my N-1 Directly from Japan and had it shipped in.
