I replaced the stock on my SGL20 a couple of days ago. I like it much better now. You'll see it in a "Short" before too long.
random suggestion for a future episode ... "Tommy guns" / Thompson submachine guns. That would be full on rock'n roll when on auto ... PLEASE ?!
Unc you should look into a Palmetto State Armory AK just to have something American made from a gun company that actually supports the 2A community just my 2 cents
@hickok45 what kind of steel target is that?
Hopefully ya added the AK 100 rear trunnion with the 5.5mm OG 103 stock like our good lord intended 🤷
The trigger in your SAM7 is made by the FIME group, and although it feels very good while shooting, the US-made trigger hammer will beat the hell out of the stem of your Bulgarian-made bolt. This is due to a mismatch in the hardness of the US- and Bulgarian-made parts. I'm willing to bet there is some peening on the stem of your bolt already. Thankfully, you can replace the FIME group trigger with an Arsenal trigger for about $30, and the peening will stop. How do I know? I've put 1,000s of rounds through my SAM7R-62.
Inaccurate rifle they said. Hickock hits target every time!
Never zeroes the rifle they do
was probably vietnam era propaganda, here on youtube you can watch ww2 military propaganda where they talk about american guns being vastly superior to german guns which was mostly not true.
@@KrikZ32 hearing that one video say the american 30 cal was superior to the mg42 was just hilarious
People who say AKs are inaccurate never used one before, or they're adapted to AR platform. It's also just idiotic to compare 7.62 out of an AK to 5.56 out of an AR. The ballistics have nothing in common, nor the rounds themselves.
@@MightyElsioR3"The MG42 needs a 10 man crew to serve it!!!"
I feel for ya Hickock. Even having to speculate selling any of those beauties would make me cry.
My father told me in the late 70’s you could buy a barrel of Chinese AK’s for $800. I just want to go back in time, specifically for the imports
Still should be, you know what they say about a fool and his money
Your father lying because chinese AK47 didn't came into U.S until 1983-1993. And an Chinese AK47 cost around $300 in 1983, so no way he can buy a whole barrel full of chinese AK47 for 800$ in the 70's

The barrel was a 5 gallon bucket so he got one and 3 parts kits@@Glockaholic91
Try some from Indian factories they sell them in USA I don’t know they are producing ak203 (it is same ak103 but with optics etc they got Russian ak technology)
Correct answer: Never sell ANY AK!
No truer words have ever been spoken
If I only knew in my youth… I have sold many great rifles I can never get back. SLR 104, VEPR, MAK90. Can I ever make amends for my wayward youth?

@@BNatoAk oh right and the I.O. akm
Before you even began talking about them, I knew it would be the SAM7, I have one and love it. Fine weapon.
It's the Bulgarian one and it has forged and milled receiver, instead of stamped.
That's why it's more expensive too.
What, no Kragujevac Zastavas? That would be my choice.
Nice selection of Chinese AK's! 🙂
I was disappointed man, I expected at least one.
The SAM7 was a solid choice to keep. One of its benefits isn't much talked about: It uses the newer AK style gas block with the 90° port angle. The older AKMs like those Norincos use a 45° port. Having it tapped at a right angle reduces barrel wear around the port, although realistically you're not going to shoot out either barrel.
Excellent info.
worth noting this is only true with 5.45, 45 degree block is 100% fine with 7.62 but when they switched to 5.45 they had problems with bullet shear and the barrel wear you're talking about.
I feel the 45 degree gas block is easier to clean
45° gas blocks were only problem with 5.45 mm AKs. The reason newer 7.62 mm AKs use a 90° gas block is because those countries were also making 5.45 mm guns and that simplifies the production process because they only have to make one.
I was never much of an AK- 47 guy, but 7-8 years ago I decided I needed to have one, so I went with the best I could grab a hold of the Arsenal Sam 7sf ( milled receiver, cold Hammer forged barrel , and importantly Mr K , the extra safety selector on the left hand of the pistol grip . I'm surprised you did not mention it 🙂 back then paid only 1300, no tax, free shipping on Sportsman's Guide. I wish I could go back in time and add four more to that order 🤣🤣
AK is one of my favorite platforms, don't think I could choose between mine
There is no zastava ak on the table. This is absolutely wrong.
As good as they are that's where they lay in a AK lineup....good...
I have two myself. That's the first thing I looked for. Great call.
It’s all preference
Cause that's not even up for debate. Everything else can go! The pap isn't even up for consideration!
You’re the only one that’s wrong. Who are you to judge someone’s own personal preferences
Love hearing the sounds of spring. Thanks, Mr Hickok.
You should try out a Zastava ZPAPM70. The Yugo M70 is honestly, much the same, but almost entirely different at the same time. The stock is bolted in like a shotgun on the M70 as opposed to the way most Kalashnikovs have the stock pressed in and just screwed into the top of the rear trunion. Also, the LoP on the M70 is about 14" inches! A bit longer than a typical AK as well!
zpap derp wbp>>>
Nailed it!
You are long overdue to try a Zastava ZPAP - if it’s a favorite of Robski, you know it’s good
I bought my WASR for $350 in 2008. Wish I got 10 back then!
I bought a WASR-3 in 2006. Paid $425. Insanity on the used market now.

@@vikingsoftpawI saw a Yugo Sks at the pawn shop for 1000 bucks last summer..
Really good AK. Only complaint with it is it has trigger slap wich is very annoying. 😊
I bought my Yugo N-PAP for $500 in 2017 or so, and I remember lamenting how much more expensive they had become at that time. Zastava makes some great guns that are still fairly priced though. You can find them for $800 for a gun that will never break.
I completely agree. The Sam7SF is my favorite. That galil style safety is super nice too.
Just ordered myself a ZPAP M70 from Buds!
Great gun
Awesome gun
Love mine. You’re gonna love it. Built like a brick shithouse.
Great choice brother, enjoy it!
How are you enjoying it?
Mr Hickok is a great shot, & no doubt has great awareness/understanding of servicing & adjusting his guns
Would never sell my 2002 Arsonal SAM7. Fully made in Los Vegas with A milled receiver that has been x rayed and magnetic particle tested. Purchased it for 560.00. Have 23 thousand rounds through it with no part's replacements. Gone are the days of 1000 rounds of wolf ammo for 60.00.😢
Might be time for new springs. Wolff sells good replacements. Might be preaching to the choir
We had it made and didn't know it.
Got one too never fired lol. Safe queen I guess.
Sixty dollars? That's insane.
That would be a tough choice for all these! I only have one. It;s a Norinco. Learned a lot watching! Thank you sir!
You know it's a great day when the legend uploads a new video
SAM7 and SGl20 would be were I got stuck. Awesome AK's
I have an Arsenal SLR - 95 with a milled receiver and I love it, so my opinion on the one you should keep is a given. Arsenal’s are good and made in Bulgaria.
Yugo M70 is a good AK
was shocked to see he didn't own a zastava
@@willharm6143as much as I like Zastava, everything he has on the table is either higher quality or more collectible (or both).
@@Joe-hz1nw agreed, those were rare / top shelf heaters
I bet he remembers the time where zastavas were seen much like the VSKAs are today. They used to and still do have some problems with fitments and metallurgy
@Joe-hz1nw Give 1 reason they are "higher quality" than a M70.
What a fabulous collection !!!
I'm jealous....
Best regards to the Beautiful Hills of Tennessee !!!
It always works in snow, sand, mud, water, no matter where the mission is carried out, the AK always works - apart from the fact that the bullet is very heavy, it destroys everything it hits.
Hickok, try a drill press for removing the rear site on your SAM7. I use a brass rod in my drill press, and an old mag...clamp the mag in the table vice and use the mechanical leverage of the drill press to press down the brass rod into the spring. The drill press isn't running, it's just helping to get in there and hold the site spring down. You can hold the press lever down with one hand, and slide out the site forward to remove it. You can use a rubber mallet to tap out a stubborn one. Then just reverse the process to install the new site. This process really helps.
Sounds good. I don't have a drill press. I thought about getting a bigger, better C-clamp of some sort and figure out a way to put enough pressure on the spring to release it without damaging it.
I 100% agree. I have some really nice AKs but something about the SAM7SF in particular just does it for me. It definitely has one of the smoothest actions out on the market
5.45x39 is really hard and expensive to come by these days. Limited access to handloading components also.
Its so deadly though have you seen ballistic gel wound channels that stuff rips things apart brutally
5,45х39, sorry for nerding
@@off6848Its a nasty little round very flat shooting
Rooshin 5.45 x 45 cases used Berdan style no anvil primers and not readily found. Import/export firms occasionally have them. Tedious process to refill expended primer cups with DIY home brewed compound but is DOABLE.
@off6848 Its no different than any other round. Stop glazing it being "more deadly" that's not a thing LMAO
what i like about Americans in the arms and guns society in social media is that most of you guys are honest and unbiased RESPECT
I passed on all the import rifles back in the days when they were about free because of the short length of pull.
Aggravating, but you can't predict the future.
Lol, same here, I'm 63 but I remember those days, I hated anything communist and still do to an extent !! But I have changed a little, I guess you could call me a Glock fanboy these days and I hated Glocks back in the 80s when thay came out.
So I guess I'm getting soft in my later year's 🤣
Thanks for sharing, brother!
God bless all here. 😊
Great AK’s ! I think some of the most underrated AK’s ,”just to name a couple”, are the Chinese MAK90, and Chinese Type 1 Milled Receiver Norinco Hunter from the 386 Polytech Arsenal which are very accurate, as well have never had a single issue out of any of them or other Chinese AK’s. I have a Polytechnic Legend still in the box, I don’t have more than $400 in any of mine because I got them years ago,or made good trades. Also as far as AK-74’s go ,the Romanian SAR-3 5.56 NATO is a great little rifle . They do usually require quality mags, like the (SGT-940 Weiger,East German mags. They are pricey now,and glad I stocked up on them. I have two Arsenal’s that are great, but I don’t think they are worth what they cost now. JMHO, Thanks!
I remember those poly techs back in the days. They had the milled receiver legend model
The most iconic weapon in history, the best weapon in the world from the AK family, all CHEAP TO PRODUCE AND THE ONE THAT CAUSES THE MOST DEATHS IN THE WORLD
I really like Zastava AK's. The ZPAP92 Tactical Pistol is especially fun!
That Poly Tech “Galil” side folder is one of the most desirable AK’s there is. Super rare and that stock is longer than most Chinese AK stocks. Less than 600 ever imported.
Yes, I really like it. It's like new and a great shooter.
We can learn a lot from you, oldman! Thank you for the video
Hickok has an erudite philosophy when it comes to weapons collecting: he already collects edged weapons in addition to firearms, so he doesn't necessarily need an AK with a bayonet! Heck, he probably has a saber or a fine Bowie knife already in mind to carry with that SAM7!😁

This is the video I have been waiting for! THANKS!
Nice choice. I love my SAM7-SF also. Damn nice AK
Mr Hickok, It was pleasantly painful watching this one. I also have 2 beautiful Norinco's, a Romanian, aPSL and a SLR 95 Arsenal that I put a tube stock and Grip on. I would do whatever necessary to keep all of them but the way you put it I would also keep my Arsenal. The grain in the milled reciever is just magic. Thanks Again! Show the new Stock on yourSGL20? Tomorrow I should get my new East German Pebble Stock I'm putting on my Childers Hungarian Marked WASR 10. The bolt carrier got sideways a while back and bulged the stock reciever so now 1.5 thick with a new forged carrier. Fun Fun Fun!

Yes Norinco Type 56 (Chinese) we can by them brand new in South Africa. I recently bought one band new and love it. For the price no AK can beat it. Paid only $452 (South African Rands 8500) new what a bargain. We can't buy them automatic that is illegal in South Africa but semi auto. I love you Americans with all the accessories. I imported the ATI AK kit (Folds the adjustable stock to the left can shoot them with stock folded) (Strikeforce Gen 2) what a hassle 9000 miles away but yea installed it on my type 56 and she looks great with the stock (and shoots much better for me nearly 2meters tall 6'7''), hand guard and pistol grip. ($250 with import tax and shipping)
I own 4 AKs two norincos, one Vepr and an FEG. The FEG is probably the best out of the bunch. With that said, they're all pretty darn good fighters
Best channel on TH-cam ❤
I own two myself, one is a Bulgarian made the other one is an Arsenal USA made SAM7 underflowing. I love them both.
I would not sell any AK. The most reliable platform is meant to be kept for generations.
Naturally.
An AR is just as reliable
@@smokedem333 id rather take a rusty AK over a rusty AR. If no replacement parts or maintenance kits are available (SHTF), youre better off with an AK.

I picked up a WASR-10 from 2011 about a month ago and actually just got back from shooting it. It is a joy to sling lead with, more than an AR IMO. And despite all the bad crap people say about them, the open sights were letting me ping steel at 300 yards. So I think that would sum up what I think about the WASR. Now to Invest in more.
There is a new production of type 56‘s from Norinco. I bought a type 56-2 sidefolder yesterday here in switzerland, a really good AK!
Congrats on that buy! I know you'll enjoy it.
My 56-1 is a tack driver. Absolute beast of a weapon.
Type 56-2 is super nice, best AK stock in my opinion.

I agree with John on the AR style stock. Every time I see that gun, that's what I'm thinking.
I replaced it almost the next day after filming this video. I like the replacement much better. I'll get it out for a Sunday Morning Shoot-a-Round soon. Also, you'll see it in a Short video I just did.
Love your choices for AK's, im AK guy all the way and can attest that the Chinese AK's are some of the best!
Id taken that PolyTech side folder that made it to runner up. However, any AK on that table wouldve been a solid choice.
You would never need 27, when just 1 can run forever 😂
I’ll buy that full auto… I’m also a crazy dreamer and you do make great points on the limits of full auto
Damn i wish my state still let people buy AKs. (They banned any rifle capable of "accepting a detachable magazine over 10 rounds" AKA any rifle with an external magazine. The law was approved by the highest level court judges (the 2 highest of which accepted "campaign donations" of 2 million dollars each from the guy who wrote the ban, never mind that judges aren't elected, he personally appointed them to their current positions, and it's judge's discretion in they have conflict of interest. (TLDR the state governor appointed Judges that already agreed with him then paid them multiple millions of dollars each to make sure they always agree with him and never decide they have a biased oppinion on anything he does).
Sounds like you live in a dangerous state. The most murders and the worst mass murders seem to occur in states and cities where the most guns are "banned." For some reason, mentally ill people and other various killers don't seem to care about what silly laws are passed for us law-abiding citizens.
Just have to shout out Zastava! They make an incredible gun and their factory is old, with quite the interesting history.
For the true experience of what an AK really is, I would want one with select fire. Over 20 years ago I paid on average under $400 for my AK's: two Maadi's, a Romanian SAR-1, and a 56S-1. Despite today's prices, to me these are still $350 guns (in year-2001 money).
I have a Kalashnikov USA KR103SF, side folding for an unbelievable price - new. I mounted a Kalashnikov quick release scope mount and added a red dot. I went with the quick release so I could remove it and use the side folding feature. It's chambered in 7.62X39. Sure is fun to shoot. I have not been deer hunting in several years as I had no place to go, other than public hunting grounds. This year I have a place and might use the AK as the range is less than 100 yards.
You know you made it in life when you buy a $3500 gun for parts for your $15,000 gun 👊💪
I cannot deny that one bit. I've been very lucky and very fortunate to be able to purchase almost any firearm I want. I try to atone by sharing them with you all, probably more often and in more detail than some care about. :-)
And by the way, if you find any select-fire AK's like this one for 15K, better get a second mortgage and buy 10 of them as quickly as you can. :-)
More like 25-30k gun
hickok45, This is so fun! I'm happy I found your channel!
How do you have 300K+ subs and no videos?
@keith1291 they bought their account, or it's a bot
I'd keep the Sam7. I'd love to have the select fire also.
You should try out the new Pioneer Arms 5.56 AKs. They’re now forged barrel, and for $900, it’s probably the best i’ve seen on the market in 5.56.
Just staring at those Circle 10 magazines. 😉
An AK without full auto is like a beer bottle without an opening...

I'll take your word for it. Never shot one. Great information to have before buying. I believe I can trust a man of your experience.
Hickok45 to find you do not have a Valmet of any kind is a shocker
Talon grips gave away your choice, however, every person has a favorite. If it fits you and you shoot it well, that's all you need. Stay safe.
AKs… such a cool gun!
One good thing about not having multiple guns of a certain type is not having to pick a keeper. (Not sure why that is necessary anyway.) I'm keeping the one and only AK in my collection and I did build it. It's a Polish under folder. That steel stock is brutal but the gun shoots like it should and it is in 7.62x39. I like that round also and have an AR in the same caliber that I shoot more often than my ARs in 5.56.
Great choice Bill! 😅
Does Silencer Central make suppressors for the cars in your area?
