Death Match also seems good (even if it's risky) in a token-producing deck. You have twelve creatures come down and wipe the board, seems pretty solid. And, even if your opponents can easily kill your little 1/1s or whatever with the effect on the crackback, you're still making them rebuild their board and all you're losing is tiny tokens. And I'd love to see an Inalla pingers tribal deck with Death Pits of Rath and a few other similar effects! Grixis seems perfect for that.
Dense Foliage, my man how have i NEVER heard of that card in my life! it's actually perfect for my Varolz, the Scar-striped deck, where i'm rarely targeting my creatures with spells, but all the time with abilities, and also want to keep my commander safe. it's awesome!
defiler is good in a cast multicoloured creatures to get an effect i could see it in a go wide mardu list with ehro and the new boros commander. also highly agree about hating on popular colours its quite necessary to include a few effects like that in every deck. desolation should deffo be played more effects like that really do keep the control and combo players in check from my experience
I think both Death Match and Death Pits of Rath would both do well in a token deck. For Death March, if you’re using something like Endrek Sahr you will probably be able to wipe the board each turn if you want while your opponents will never be able to kill all you tokens. For Death Pits of Rath, 1/1s now kill 7/7s and I don’t think anyone will ever need to explain why that’s pretty cool
Death Pits of Rath combos pretty nicely with Dry Spell, Famine, Dakmor Plague, Evincar's Justice, Sickening Dreams, Psychotic Haze, Rancid Earth, and Wail of the NIm. There's also some targeted damage spells in black as well, with Agonizing Siphon, Consume Spirit, Corrupt, Covenant of Blood, Dark Nourishment, Dead Reckoning, Douse in Gloom, Drain Life, Essence Drain, Essence Extraction, Infernal Harvest, Kor Dirge, Last Kiss, Midnight Charm, Morbid Hunger, Pharika's Cure, Sorin's Thirst, Swallowing Plague, Tendrils of Corruption, Vampiric Feast, and Vicious Hunger. As long as the instant or sorcery is doing damage itself, Pestilent Spirit can also go in for some necessary redundancy.
There's an artifact version of foliage called Hanna's custody. Also staff of nin is good with Deathpits of rath, I added it to my Shauku end bringer deck at one point.
Can confirm, Deathmatch works great with big creatures. Play some 6/6 demons and your opponents will struggle with removing them. However you will be destroying their engines. Plus if you're creating a bunch of 0/1 tokens to feed your demons, they end up impacting the board too.
another thing worth mentioning about dense foliage is that your opponents cant target creatures with spells either. most types of removal? cant use em. combat tricks? cant use em. auras of any kind? cant use em!
Not sure this card has come up in this series, but I just saw the card Chain of Acid and think it would be a great spotlight feature. If multiple opponents have combo pieces out you can target one and let them destroy the other. It also benefits you if you're running creatures as mana sources to make hitting your lands less lucrative.
I absolutely love combining Death Pits of Rath with Aether Flash in my Ghen deck. Got Desolation in there too, since I can sacrifice it when I want to play something, then bring it back at instant speed on opponents turn using artifacts. Defiler of Souls would be good in a couple of my decks too. Great video as always. Keep up the great work!!
A good commander for a multicoloured tribal deck (for Defiler of Souls and Supply/Demand) is Ramos; it cares about the number of colours a spell is. Supply/Demand can also be used in a tricky way here, casting Supply where X=0 still counts as a 3-coloured spell, so Ramos will add 3 counters for only 2 mana (similar to Trace of Abundance). Defiler of Souls is also good in Korvold, since it wants to sacrifice things anyway.
I stumbled on Death Match a couple months ago. I haven’t figured out what Mardu deck it will go in yet, but there’s definitely a theme forming in my brain. Same with Deathrender. I’ve always loved Death Grip (and it’s green counterpart Lifeforce) from the first time I started playing. Desolation is really interesting, especially considering how much support treasure has been getting lately. I’m legitimately shocked that I haven’t discovered Devoted Caretaker before this video. Odyssey has been a massive boon of interesting cards that aren’t played much. Many are still cheap despite never being reprinted either. The most interesting one is Dense Foliage though. While it doesn’t protect against abilities, that actually makes it better. Most of the cards with similar effects were errata to just shroud, which can be stripped away with Arcane Lighthouse. This doesn’t though and can’t be gotten around. It is the same way Shielding Plax and Canopy Cover work. Also, if you can put an aura on to the battlefield (not cast), you can then attach it to a creature because targeting only happens on the stack.
I have found “Verity Circle” to be quite good. It is cheap card draw and often goes under the radar. It will do way more than it should in a game of commander where multiple players have different kinds of tap abilities.
I never see anybody playing with the sweet bounce enchantments. Whip Silk, Shimmering Wings, etc. One mana to play, one mana to return to your hand. Pretty much essential in any Enchantress decks, and there's one for each color. Check them out guys.

I have a Veavictus Asmadi, the Dire deck that is 99 permanents (and no auras), so there are lots of abilities that target creatures but no spells that directly target. He generates so much value for me that the play group has a bullseye painted on his head.
Death Match is an all star in Ghave Decks. I've had people just straight up concede after reading what it does. I've played Death Render is sooo many decks because it sounds really good, but it's almost always underwhelming. The only deck I still have it in is my Shattergang Brothers deck because you can reliably sac your creatures for it, you have lots of creatures you want to sac, and you can also pitch it to kill artifacts in a pinch.
I recently added Horobi, Death's Wail to my superfriends deck, and Death Pits of Rath is definitely another awesome source of removal to find out about!
I'm brewing a Chainer, Nightmare Adept deck, one that could reasonably play Defiler and it didn't make the cut, as Sheolodred is just so much better, so I can see why it ends up being cut from every list you make as I'm in the same boat. Best hope it would have of seeing play is just in a deck that maybe stacks sacrifice effects and wants to sac both its own creatures and keep the enemies creatures off the board.
The death pits of rath is great in my Kazarov, Sengir Pureblood deck, it turns all my 1-3 cost "deal damage to every creature" effects into board wipes

For Defiler of Souls, I'd throw it with Kresh Blood Braided since he's also multicolored and that's a lot of turns where Kresh just gets stronger real fast.

Minions' Murmurs is an underrated card. 4 mana draw cards and lose life equal to the number of creatures you control.
It's a black shamanic revelation, I own like 20 copies and use it in a lot of decks

I’ve played with dense foliage for years 👍. Great card.
Death pits of wrath is in my kelsein hidden plague deck along with goblin sharpshooter. With a blood artist effect, it just keeps the board clear.

I play Death Match in my Marrow-Gnawer deck. It's pretty good when you're churning out a dozen tokens a turn.
Devoted Caretaker goes in almost all my white decks allong with Mother of Runes, Giver of Runes and Benevelont Bodyguard.
Just last Thursday had a game where I got early Death Pits of Rath on the battlefield and it decided the whole game.
