    What made you stop there? I've definitely been accidentally pushing too long with my 3 y.o. How did you decide that it was enough for today?

    • @toddlerscanread
      @toddlerscanread  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +49

      In this case, he definitely could have done more. He were having fun, still fully engaged, enjoying the lesson. But I stopped at 5 minutes to show how much could be done in a short period of time without pushing further. Generally though, I try to go as long as every individual kid can go, but make sure to stop while the kid is still having fun and doing well to end it on a good note.

    I would do anything to see a video of this wonderful teaching similar skills to children with autism/adhd/ODD…. Or any other combination of disabilities . I work in public school as a para and I have a lot of the harder cases that can become violent with me and I’m trying soooooo hard to make this work and to make real connections while trying to sneak some learning in there , but it end ups so often with complete refusal to do anything or worse with some sort act of violence against me . Public schools don’t provide teaching at all for us , and I can’t even find anything on TH-cam to help paras teach special ed kids that can be violent towards you … we need help .. anyone that can direct me towards somewhere to get the knowledge I need to be able to do this ? I want to be that soft safe space for these kids .. but I refuse to be anyone’s punching bag …. I’m afraid I’m gonna burn out and leave …. But I think I’m such a positive spot in these kids days … but I come home n all the frustration pours out of me to the point it feels like poison .. I hate it 😖.. somebody help a sista out , lol, please !

    You're a remarkable teacher. I have 3yo twin boys and two older kids. I'm here to learn! Question: at 2:48 you asked, "Ready to do a bit of blending?" - I just watched your video about how to keep children focused. What if he wasn't ready to do blending?

    • @toddlerscanread
      @toddlerscanread  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's a good question. And yes, that would be a non-example in terms of when to use questions vs. directions. In this case, it's about adjusting your teaching for the kid in front of you and this little one gets really excited about and is motivated by moving to the next skill. So the question was more about motivation and transition vs. a real question.

      I started teaching my autistic son to read when he was 3 years old, even though he wasn't talking, but I get up every day religiously and apply these concepts and by the time he was 5 years old he said his 1st word and everything I was teaching he was actually learning but just couldn't respond.
      Now my son is 8 years old in 2nd grade and reading at the 4th grade level.

    • @meemtong5589
      @meemtong5589 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, cursive comes after getting the letters written correctly. Reading comes first then writing. When they can remember the letter names and sounds, then them write the letters, upper and lower case.

    Awesome !!!
    I have though one question:
    Why do you have in English the same sound (a) for both: for "u" and for "o" ???
    Probably you'll tell me there's a difference in the way you're expelling the air... Correct, but... Huff, English is both beautiful and hard to learn, and the German language is even harder! 😅

      Phonics. Start with the letter sounds and then when they've grasped it, you teach them to blend the sounds.Honestly, with children I realize you need consistency( most importantly) and then time with them ( keep it short and sweet as much as possible). Check out his other videos though, I learned so much from them. I'm sure you would too.

      I think its important to see individually what she can handle and to teach that, just one step at the time, not trying too much, but just step bij step what she can handle
      And you also may want to consider if its important to you that she grows up with peers or not. If so, you might want to wait, so she can learn at school and also develop social skils with peers and make friends (but that depends on how far ahead she is/will be of her peers
