  • Kent and Claire moved to the UK with the dream of opening their own hotel/ They purchased Stunton Hall, a beautiful Midland mansion. However, their dreams of a beautiful and successful hotel are burning a hole in their pockets. Already sinking $5.8 into purchasing the Hall, the building costs a minimum of $29,000 a week. With no history in running hotels, the couple are way over their heads. Can Ruth Watson save this couple from bankruptcy? Find out, o Hotel Rescue!

I looked up the current state of Stubton Hall. It is a great success still. From their website, "When my late husband Kent and I first walked up the drive, Stubton looked sad and forlorn." They are educated in art history and music but don’ have any education or experience to be hoteliers. They made many mistakes. The walkway for the brides should have been indoors. The main kitchen should have been finished. The exterior of the new additions should look like the original building’s exterior. Taxidermy is distasteful and should not belong in this type of venue. Their fees are too low. Too much money was spent on decorating the rooms but they left the chapel and dining room bare. These two rooms are the most important rooms in the building.

Something about spending my very last penny on a lavish gamble like Stubton Hall would keep me up nights too. Absolutely, a professional or two on hand would have avoided all sorts of mistakes. The green, Chinese wallpaper was hung wrong, the decorated, scenic part should have been at chair rail height, not at ankle height, where it's hidden by the furniture and too low to focus on. The building(s) from the outside now resembles a somewhat incoherent street in an old town more than a house. Also, very sad to hear that Kent has died, but glad that he saw it finished

Pardon the pun but she's dead wrong about the taxidermy. Weddings aren't just for a bride you want to create an interesting environment for the guests who wander around the building before and in between the ceremony and reception, the animals make for an interesting conversation piece and harken back to the Era in which these country houses are from. It lends the historical authenticity one looks for in choosing this type of country house venue.

I would agree with her regarding the taxidermy. It is not simply a question of taste. Taste is about liking or not. When it comes to taxidermy, it goes much deeper than that. I find the idea really repulsive and I am not even vegan or vegetarian, I was born on a farm yet I hate the idea of eating a meal under the stuffed cadaver of an animal with dead glass eyes. They just remind me of death. I would understand having them in a library for example so that people who manage to see them as something else can enjoy looking at them but I don't think they should be in a place where people who want to enjoy themselves can not avoid them .

I’ve watched a lot of these episodes and I honestly think they don’t offer the best kind of help. Why not offer them an architect to help them? Visiting the finished hotels was nice but they needed resources.

This is a prime example, why buying a hotel franchise, would be beneficial. Best Western as an example, has many historical properties, like this one, throughout Europe. They would help with the design, renovation, brand standards, and even educate the owners, on how to run the property. This is a very complex business, which the owners have no formal training; yet feel it is a simple thing to run: how is this possible?

I cannot take in the naivity and arrogance of people like this. It shows exactly why creativity alone is not sufficient for a large project. Why did a music producer think he could be an architect? Even to build a house you need professionals alongside you who can anticipate the problems and give guidance before you spend huge amounts of money.

the prices now are well over that and go up to 5,000+ pounds, and this does not include an additional fee of 100+ pounds per guest for catering etc. Plus, that doesn't include the cost of bedrooms, should the party stay overnight; the minimum cost of a bedroom is over 150 pounds per night and they require that you book at least 15 of the 20+ rooms if you are overnighting. Weddings can also be held almost every day so theoretically, I think as long as they remain a popular venue, they'll continue to do alright.

The squealing about taxidermy in grand homes of eccentric people is becoming tedious. But you have to listen to what the customers tell you. If it doesn't service the business' needs well, remove and continue on. It's not a big thing to fix. Well done to the exhausted couple. It turned out very well indeed. Much better than expected. You have to admire their tenacity.

The dead animals, yuck. If Kent really likes them then make a man cave. I think in high places they call t a cigar room. I wouldn't want to get married near them or even eat a meal near them and I am just an ordinary woman. Cover the walk way. I do not want the rain even misting on my expensive wedding dress, make up and hair....even after the ceremony. Beautiful what you have done! All blessings!
