As down the glen one Easter morn
To a city fair rode I
There armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by
No pipe did hum
No battle drum did sound its loud tattoo
But the Angelus Bells o'er the Liffey swells
Rang out in the foggy dew
Right proudly high in Dublin town
Hung they out a flag of war
'Twas better to die 'neath that Irish sky
Than at Sulva or Sud-El-Bar
And from the plains of Royal Meath
Strong men came hurrying through
While Brittania's Huns with their long range guns
Sailed in through the foggy dew
Their bravest fell and the requiem bell
Rang mournfully and clear
For those who died that Eastertide in the
Springing of the year
While the world did gaze with deep amaze
At those fearless men but few
Who bore the fight that freedom's light
Might shine through the foggy dew
And back through the glen, I rode again
And my heart with grief was sore
For I parted then with valiant men
Whom I never shall see n'more
But to and fro in my dreams I go
And I kneel and pray for you
For slavery fled, O glorious dead
When you fell in the foggy dew

@@oldfrittenfett1276 Like the most humans.
@@rene_falk But still.
@@oldfrittenfett1276 you are never wrong about your feelings....and, politically, Sinead has been proven correct in retrospect
@@bogeybichon7000 So if you, for example, would feel that your neighbour is less human because of the colour of his skin, by this logic, you would not be wrong about it. Come on. The statement "you are never wrong about your feelings" is as empty as "you can't change the past, but you could change the future".
I can't get over how beautiful her voice is singing this song. Makes me shiver.🇦🇺♥️🇮🇪
She is one of the singers you'll never forget. Bit of tears and I am not even Irish but Dutch
Rest in peace, Sinead. What a voice.
Incredible, otherworldly talent she was. Rest peacefully with your loved ones, Sinead. Thank you for gracing us with your passion, beautiful songbird.
That flute and Sinead together is a combo that noone can hate!
God bless Irish people in their fight for freedom and justice! Greetings from Serbia! I love Irish music 🍀🇨🇮 RIP Sinead O Connor. I drink now one beer🍺for your soul.
Gracias por tu arte y sobre todo por tu valentía. Descansa en paz querida Sinéad. Se te extrañara siempre.
R.I.P. Sinead O’ Connor. She was so talented with a powerful and passionate voice. This performance is haunting, may she rest in peace.
Sinead was born of this earth to sing this song. Her voice comes from a place deep in her soul and thus touches mine in a way mere words cannot define.
Quite possibly one of the best singing of songs . Great respect Sinead
I don't know why I relate, or feel deeply, for Irish music. I can feel it in my bones and heart.
Tears of stone. I come back for that crystal voice.
God bless the tenderhearted
Here was a bold Irish woman who said things that others didn’t feel they could say, and she said them loudly...
Slàn Abhaile Sinéad
Is é mo chroí briste... ❤
I was in Ireland on vacation and bought The long black veil cassette and we played it on the bus. Everyone was thrilled and loved it, our irish guide too. Sinèad and the Chieftains put their magic spell on these days.❤
How proud I am to be THE IRISHMAN.
A black american male thats a Conor mcgregor fan. Just want to say RIP, and this song and Conor got me through a tough patch in my life. Rest in peace 🇮🇪 🙏
I feel you bro. Look at how universal it is! I'm Turkish and both Conor and this song helped me through dark times. We're lucky to have inspiration from these people and I'm so glad we have this opportunity

Check out the people of Emeril Island, off the coast of Jamaica you will enjoy the documentary
Mcgregor is scum
Um you do realise Ireland is more than just some drunken violent mma fighter
You know a singer has real talent when they sound good live and Sinead certainly does!
Unlike no other singer her voice was so strong yet so clear without screaming the words.
Sinead and Judith Durham, power, power and beauty in a clear tone.
This is an incredibly powerful song, rich in feeling and imagery of those who died in the Easter Uprising, and Sinead O'Connor sang it best. May heaven know the wonders of her vocals now.
Rest in power SInéad, thank you for all you did for music and for Ireland. You were one of the very best of them
What this beautiful person does to songs is astounding
Probably the best vocal performance I’ve ever heard!
A unique talent... A sublime timeless Voice... In song and activism... A warrior... A champion for change... Rest In Power
As an Irish-American, I feel the call of my Irish ancestors in this song. It lights a fire in my blood like nothing else. Amazing song by Sinead O’Connor and the Chieftains.
Holy shit what a perfect performance by Sinead & the Chieftains, and what an amazing song representing the fight/struggle for Irish independence. Love the Irish (I'm not Irish). Sinead killed it with her heavenly voice; of course she did. RIP Sinead/Shuhada, legend of Ireland and a beautiful misunderstood soul. This and her performance of Danny Boy are 2 of my favorites. Nobody did them better! Love from Canada, a lifelong fan.
Ireland still awaits her freedom TaL

RIP, heard of the news today, remember growing up and hearing your voice being played in the 90s then I also remembered how beautifully you sung this particular song, I don't live in Ireland but I have some Irish roots and so I came back here, great voice. thank you for this performance.
My Sinéad... OUR Sinéad... we love you, and we mourn our loss... How proud you still make us...
An amazing singer, who could sing any style.Totally ahead of her time. Controversial, articulate, strong. A legend that will be sorely missed. Your songs have comforted me on many occasions. Sleep well. No one to fill the gap.
Rip lady from 🇺🇸🇺🇸 my irish ancestors are so proud of you and so is my family ☘️
A moment in time preserved for all those who follow. May you all prosper.
The passion in Sinead's voice OMG ...Best ever version of the Foggy Dew...UTR
Her live performances were just as uplifting as her recorded tracks. Thank you for the music, the raw courage in your voice & the bravery in your beliefs. Condolences to all who loved her. Rest in the spirit of love always Sinéad. 💔🪽🪽🇮🇪
I love listening to Sinead singing. It's as if she is the voice from the soul of every irish person. She will always be the voice of our nation. R.I.P lovely Sinead

What a truly beautiful person, inside and out . Her voice is iconic . Her style is beautiful. I love Ireland more because of Sinead
Hello 👋, how are you doing??
Her voice is so beautiful and divine.
I like the sound of freedom and honoring the memories of ancestors it goes well with the pipes, violins, and hurrahs
From DR Congo in Africa, but I feel myself Irish about the words on this sound!
Rest in peace Sinead 😥.
What a beautiful voice and a beautiful and powerful song.
