He's pretty reasonable. I've heard him in a Mondo Cane interview say that he just doesn't like journalists. Depends who's interviewing him and why. Probably the approach and candor make the difference. That's pretty normal, not crazy at all.
I've only recently got into this guy (Faith No More) and he seems so different from all the other musicians i admire. The name slips my mind, but the italian language band (Mondo Cane?) i heard on the radio last night was incredibly cool! I look forward to delving into his huuuge back catalogue!
It's almost like a fact of life. Some of the most creative and high achieving musicians also have "personality flaws" It's not enough to just be nice. Unless it is.
if there's anyone out there who doesnt understand why patton does what he does...this is the perfect interview to answer any questions you may have about the many projects he takes on. really explains the mindset he takes with him when he goes about his business. good stuff.
@@vrod2144 Yes back in the day around 1991-2 i guess, Patton was talking about the ' i'm too sexy ' video during an interview for Angel Dust recording...
i know what u mean, saw fantomas in dublin, front row!most unique gig i've ever seen and the best. Just seeing the size of the drum kit/mega rig was awesome. Patton without a doubt is the greatest vocalist ever in terms of technique & range.shame MR. BUNGLE are no more,Love that band too.
confidence and arrogance are seperated by a fine line. Mike P has been successful, he owes nothing to anyone. most fans don't get it, they think there are these unwritten rules that all musicians are buddies and are very humble, peaceful, however you want to describe it. It's a business, people! Musicians do what they gotta do to get paid, and a lot of people in the industry are simply hire guns for talented composers like Mike P who shuffle from band to band.
I like watching Patton in foreign interviews. He seems pretty honest compared to his american interviews where they seem to show his passive-aggresive frustration with american media culture! Awesome voice though, I wonder when he's going to sing a duet with Diamanda Galas. I'll go to whatever sleazy junked out lounge they are billing.
the cd cover that comes up is the self titled debut fantomas album (though some people assume that it's called "Amenaza Al Mundo" because of the words on the front, but it's not) the song playing underneath is 'cape fear' from fantomas' the director's cut album
he was in mr. bungle some time before faith no more.. and like he says, we don't need million bands which are completely the same and make the same record all the time. i like his work ;)
I liked the Darkness. Sure, it wasn't the best game around, but I enjoyed what I played of it. But maybe it was the Mike Patton aspect that made me like it more :D
AMEN! OVER & OVER & OVER never ending!! I love artists who challenge themselves to move & explore new pathways. FNM (& Patton-natch!), Talk Talk (check them out if you've never heard them-started out great popish new wave, ended up acid jazz), Joe Jackson, Kate Bush, Kat Powers, Bowie, John Hiatt. Fuck the industry standard making the same record 16times, find new places to explore & play in! Leave boring bullshit for the mtv/corporate crowd; I'll take the interesting artists every day! Peace!
Ahahaa at Fantomas concert (in Torino, Italy) years ago, Patton talking in Italian said that he saw A. Del Piero among the public. He told him smth that I was glad to hear. i saw taraf de haidouks on saturday, saw fantomas on the sunday "simply beautiful" was the icing on the cake. rumour says the new fantomas album is coming june/july 2009. reality suggests that it will get delayed for a year or two

It's good that Fantomas it's the first project of Patton that it's going to stay in it instead of leaving and going to other band, and lots of things that Patton says here I agree, like the vocals in normal rock overpasses the instrument and people always fucks with the vocals, and the guitar drums bass, keys? Well it's cool he noted that. and the thing that losts of bands sounds equally its absolutley right, lots of people think that they have talent, c'mon, stop daydreaming.
if you're referring to the "true musicians play for themselves" comment i think he/she meant they write make music for themselves not for popular opinion.
he kinda reminds me of danny elfman in that he comes in with the studio and he has certain ideas but is also willing to experiment and improvise with the large amount of styles that is represented withing the music. sorry for probably stating what he said or the obvious. you don't find alot of this now a days.
Last I heard there's a new fantomas album commin out in june or sometime during the summer... That'll probably change though what with the whole faith no more reunion though
it was released in 2007 mate & i suppose ur right in the traditional sense but i feel its one of the better consoles fps games out there 4 the action & story elements,it was a bit short and had lots of annoying running around parts but the ww1 sections is where the 'Classic' comes in. MGS4 was released last year and that game is already considered a 'Classic'by me,critics and developers so The Darkness shouldn't have too long to wait.
Give the poor guy a break, he already revolutionized the music industry. IMOA he wasn't that great in Firecracker, he was very Pattonesque (and we all love him for it), but he is clearly not an actor. Great (but wierd) movie though and he was perfect for the part.
i dunno, i think fantomas + electronic could equal VERY FUCKING CRAZY. but yeah suspended animation is possibly my favourite fantomas album and fantomas are one of my favourite bands... you do the math
everyone thinks their own recorda sound different from each other, buzzo too but they all sound like melvins records no matter what they sound like verite
It be better if people looked both inside and outside the box. You cant ignore the norm and you cant ignore the extreme, its all opinion and judgement. You should try to treat all things as the same and see what it really is
i don't think that's actually true, it was posted on wikipedia or imdb or something but it got taken down which suggests it was unsubstantiated. patton also BSs about his heritage, at one point he even said he was chinese!
so good to hear him actually enjoying to talk in a interview
+Isabela Ferreira Belo if you like hearing Patton do interviews you should look up the entrevista ones, that guy keeps him talking nearly an hour!

Mike Patton is one of a kind, truly amazing.
I love him!
I admire this man & his art so much. Great interview \m/
Smart and interesting guy. Cocky, smug, arrogant, cynical and difficult but he's certainly one of the foremost frontmen in Rock.

Patton, Buzzo and Dave Lombardo. If that's not a supergroup, I don't know what is.
This is the same guy that did the sounds for the zombies in Left 4 Dead.
This is an excellent interview.
Maybe he just can't help it. I see a humbleness in him as well. He could just be a tad conflicted, you know....
A tad conflicted, but overall he seems quite confident in his own skin.

I was just talking to Right Said Fred, Mike was a big fan they were going to do a track together but management got in the way!

He looks like Dracula!
Bungle was one of the least noisy bands he has been in, are you crazy? Have you heard the album California? It's a masterpiece.
my bad, i meant to say it'd be nice if people looked outside the box (ie at what patton is doing) the guy deserves a bit more recognition
