The sandwich interview is so legendary - Mike was recently interviewed and the interviewer actually asked Mike what kind of sandwich he was eating during this. Mike just laughed and said "f*** I don't know that was forever ago!"
I love how the part about being inspired by L Ron Hubbard personality tests and fortune cookies sounds like obvious trolling, but Land of Sunshine tells us it was actually one of the completely true lines.
This interview is actually much longer and if my memory serves me he’s holding the burger pretty much the hold time. I remember watching this high as balls with my buddies back in the day and I thought it was the funniest thing ever. Became a lifelong Mike Patton fan after that lol
3:00 Patton's Spirit explains itself, in a nutshell ❤ Dunn said in an interview that in the early days of Bungle, when he was just beginning to study Music Theory in highschool, they were writing a song, and Patton's vocal melody had a few notes that weren't "correct" according to traditional Music Theory. He said to Patton that he couldn't do that, because of those rules, basically, and Patton asked, "Why not?" Dunn said that it immediately reminded him, "Oh yeah, why not?"🤦 and they continued on as if nothing happened, bassically. That's how Bungle does what they do, and it's beautiful.
I waited and and a half minutes just to see him actually bite the sandwich. That being said, I saw him tour with dillinger and shook his hand, so I consider myself lucky.
I can imagine Warner Bros executives watching this interview after investing in Mike Patton with signing Mr. Bungle because Epic was a hit, just going *oh god what did we do*
Yes, but the inverse effect/prediction is taking place. He's speaking on an aspect of Truth, but his interpretation is muddied by his (and Bungle admittedly, at least Dunn admits to it) misguided misanthropy. Music is a Spiritual endeavor, wether anybody recognizes it or not. It is an incontrovertible fact, and unable to be separated from that fact. Music comes from HUMAN interpretation of messages/signals/melodies/harmonies out in the aether/inspired by the Divine/The Muse, etc. Computers are incapable of True Original Composition. This is exclusively relegated to Human Pursuits. Computers just regurgitate/parrot/reconfigure previously available data/information, and express it through every "logically possible" permutation. AI is definitively, by nature, incapable of producing the effects that Patton refers to. Those innovations will come from HUMAN endeavors interacting with technology/"AI" perhaps, but the technology WILL NOT be the SOURCE of the innovation/ideas.
Let me put it this way, are you happy, satisfied, and fulfilled at the current ranking of the Billboard Top 100? That's a perfect description of Mike lol
Put a baseball cap on and anyone will immediately look like a dork
He doesn't make much sense but who cares
Trolling before trolling was invented. A true innovator
The Beatles were doing it 50 years ago and much funnier too.
It's because Patton, Dunn, and Spruance are Machine Elves. The OG Jesters of the Universe. The Infinite Jest.

And now we have AI music. Kind of called it.

Jim Morrison predicted this long before
Or he was jut talking smack cause that is not happening.

I have a feeling "A Small Victory" might be the fortune cookies song, RV is definitely the redneck character sketch.
Does life seem worthwhile to you?
Do you feel sometimes that age is against you?
Do you often seem to whistle just for fun?
Some people say Mike Patton is still eating that sandwich to this day.😂
