Used to be 8 hour days Monday through Friday, plus half-days on Saturdays, usually until noon. And that was just standard, even Union, stuff - especially in the 50s. I've seen quite a few late 40s-50s movies (i.e., "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House," as just one example) where this was just everyday, normal stuff. And that half-day on Saturday was NOT on overtime, either! But, one minute after noon sure was!
My employees didn't "have to" work more than 8 and 40. But in seasonal construction work just about everyone wants as many hrs as possible. My crews worked 72 hours a week every week and I had over 100 hrs every single week. That's why there's almost no old guys in new construction.
While I admit to not being a Tik Tok user or understanding all of the nuances , one of the things I hear about the Tik Tok issue is that politicians are saying that the owners of Tik Tok are spying on users. So instead they are contemplating having it sold to some maggots who surely would never ever think of using the app for the same exact purposes. 😒
Well, they raise some interesting problems. Social media absolutely "spies" on every user, and that definitely includes TH-cam. Most algorithms in use can easily manipulate a target demographic or audience in specific ways; most people will either click on what they're told to, or will click on it to rage out about the topic in the comments. And then highlight the thing driving them nuts on other forms of social media. Instead of tackling any of that, they want to ban Tik Tok because the Chinese government could use it to spread their own misinformation. We're absolutely fine using ours and other social media to distribute our own misinformation, we just take issue with China doing it to Americans. They could make it harder to spread misinformation. They could put strict controls for user data in place to prevent things like this from ever becoming these massive problems in the future. There are a million different things they could do that could help not only us, but future generations. And the best idea they could come up with is to ban what seems to be the world's most popular app. It's like pissing against the ride with these people.
The issue seemed to be that when TikTok put out a message asking people to call their senators, the senators suddenly got flooded with an absolute ton of calls from children, and then the realisation that TikTok can very easily exert a lot of pressure on the politicians.
Something that is massively underreported and very interesting is China's space program. Most people don't even know they currently have a space station and are seemingly still on track to get to the moon in the 30ies
According to the comments of some Texans on YT, if they were going to evacuate Dallas, Texas infrastructure is so bad that would also have to be on foot. As far as Gaza goes, though, to be serious, that’s both insane snd horrifying.

Re moving Rafa: When your intent is to “Kill all off the Filthy Animals”, it makes perfect sense. “Kill off the Filthy Animals”, is a quote from, an Israeli undersecretary who’s speech appeared in an Al Jazeera news clip, back in October. Which I have not seen since, but would love to find again.
Netanyahu and the Likud Party have repeatedly and openly referred to the Palestinians as “Amalek” a supposedly ancient people of the region that “god” told them to wipe out ‘kill every man, woman, child and suckling- to include their livestock’ - ‘to blot out any remembrance of them’ Nothing spells genocide like Old Testament biblical references… They chant about it in IDF rallies and Israeli popular songs. We are sending money and weapons to an extremist death cult. One we erroneously call an “ally”. Just look around for Israel and the word Amalek - it’s disgusting.
From the PoV of many of the users, what the bill aims to do to Tiktok is essentially equivalent to a ban. To bring Tiktok under a regime of control more similar to major US social medias means it will likely have its rules restructured. One of the most important things about tiktok is that people have been able to freely learn about & discuss the ongoing catastrophe. Meanwhile here on TH-cam if I'm any more specific about what I mean, my comment will not post.
I've had that happen to me before too. I've had to edit, re-edit, un-edit, and re-re-edit, and even change the spelling of certain words before, in order to try and make my point! If that's not censorship, I don't know what is. I'm not talking about being banned, or become an MTG clone with a mask with "that word" on it - just being rejected for specific speech in it. I get it - the 1st Ammendment is not the issue here - this is not about the Federal Government trying to shut down my ability to say what I want to say. This is a forum owned by a private company which I am allowed to avail myself of as long as I follow their guidelines. Which of course they have every right to do. That's the major concept so many GOP fools get so wrong so often. First Ammendment issues have no place here. You'd think - at least *I do*- that being fairly familiar with (at the bare minimum) the Bill of Rights, if not all the basic tenets of our Constitution in order to be allowed to run for any position in Congress! But since taking (and passing) "Senior Government" stopped being an absolute requirement, along with "Senior English," and a full load of other credits in Math, Science, English, Social Sciences, History, Foreign Language, etc., in the 4 years prior, in order to be granted a High School diploma in the Commonwealth of Virginia, everything in general has just gone to heck in a handbasket, and anybody who can scare up the votes to get themselves elected, regardless of education - or lack thereof - can raise their right hand, say the words, and get a nice gold pin to wear, and collect a 6 figure salary, plus "contributions" from various and assorted corporations, social organizations, etc.
Also, saying "turn over control to our country or be banned" *isn't* a ban is insanely disingenuous. If China made such a demand, would anyone here hesitate to call it a ban? Would they feel it's appropriate? Or would we be outraged at China's "authoritarian control over media"?
Agreed. I find TikTok amazing in its capacity to encourage speech and my ability to block is better than TH-cam. I’ve been in TH-cam jail for minor words like m*r*n, lol. No hate speech, a wee bit of sarcasm, and I still got put in TH-cam jail, lol.
Beau, thankyou all for this. I consider these 'bonuses' . Good ones! Yes, moving into a larger city like that, trying to evac palestinians, when they'll be suspicious of any men, will be bad for both groups.👍💙💙💙🥰✌
The Irish constitution says "28.5.1 The head of the Government, or Prime Minister, shall be called, and is in this Constitution referred to as, the Taoiseach." The Irish text, which takes precedence in the event of a conflict, doesn't disagree, but I would argue it is more direct. It reads "28.5.1 An Taoiseach is teideal do cheann an Rialtais, .i. an Príomh-Aire, agus sin é a bheirtear air sa Bhunreacht seo." which translates to "_An Taoiseach_ is the title of the head of Government, i.e. the Prime Minister and this is how it is referred to in this Constitution." Both titles are understood, but Taoiseach would definitely be preferred.

Insulin-producing cows would be big news for dairy farmers as well. There would be some serious environmental concerns, but they could be resolved as long as there was motivation to do so. The ethical concerns about the use of animals would be another concern that might be a little more difficult to overcome.
A long while back now i saw articles about australia testing a cattle feed to reduce methane emissions in dairy cows. I'd imagine that has gone somewhere by this point.

Happy to hear that the MA governor issued simple possession pardons. I hope my old buddy Mike was among them. About 20 years back, I had just sold him some weed, and literally a few seconds after the transaction was completed, a cop walked around the corner and busted him. I still had some weed and a bowl on me, but the dumb cop wasn't smart enough to find them when I was searched. Have always appreciated him for not ratting on me, and have felt bad that he got busted and I walked free.
32 hour work week would mean many people would be reclassified from part-time to full-time employees. That would be big if companies were required to pay: overtime, health care, social security, workman's comp, and retirement.😉👍💙🇺🇸🕊️
Who are the investors in ByteDance? ( Owners of TikTok ) ByteDance's US investors include private equity firms General Atlantic, Susquehanna International Group and Coatue Management, which all have representatives sitting on the Chinese company's board. Other board members include Neil Shen from Sequoia China - since renamed HongShan - and ByteDance CEO Liang
I doubt it will ever be 32 the corporations won’t go for it - when I started my company it was 37.5 hours and they decided they wanted the extra 2.5 hours lol
I think they tried it experimentally in England, and the bosses wanted to keep it. I might be leaving something out, but that's what I remember hearing.
Instead of a 32 hr week. A 4 day week. 4 10 hr days. I've done it. It's very nice. 3 day weekends. One of them a weekday so. All the stores you miss on a weekend. Are open full hours. Working an extra 2 hours per day is nothing. But, a three day weekend each week. Made life a lot easier. It's doable if companies want to schedule it. Unless labor laws are changed. 32 hrs is part time. Zero benefits.
Considering this is Bernie, I would expect that the idea is pay and benefits aren't reduced (pay obviously being clearly stated here). Of course, it would have to be explicitly stated in any kind of legislation. Honestly, all of us out here in the cheap seats know exactly how the corps would use it to further screw the working class. At this point we should all be well equipped to predict many of the ways, if not all. I think of it as the "walmartification" of the labor force. Walmart started with the low pay, then only offering part time so they could get away with no benefits. Then most major corps followed suit. Then the setting schedules so ppl have a hard time getting second part time jobs to make up for not being able to find full time positions. On and on. Unless the other downstream problems are addressed in a straight forward manner, yes it would be a big prob. I would like to hope Bernie, at least, would have that in mind. It would be in our interest to pay attention to it though, bc very definitely someone WILL want to use it to screw us.
@@lauranna9942 no argument. Well said. Back when I worked part time jobs. They made the schedule so unstable you couldn't have a second job, or attend college courses. They expected you to show up early, for whatever random shift they set. I've never worked as hard as I did for minimum wage.
@@ericgraf1127 I also always love when they tell the ppl they are already abusing they have to be in 15 min early to get whatever done before they can work but they can't clock in until 5 minutes early (at best). However, if they're staying 10 min late to help a co-worker or customer, "you can't work after you clock out bc 'safety issues,' I've heard that from so many ppl working in these areas. It's a if they're saying it's unsafe to work for them, but hey if you're on the clock, you're disposable (unless it's the bs they want them doing before, that's ok). 🙄
I enjoy working a four day week, four 10 hour days. I can remember when nobody clocked out for breaks or lunch. First shift was 7 am - 3 pm, 2nd was 3 pm - 11 pm, and 3rd was 11 pm - 7 am. At the end of 5 days, you only actually worked 30-35 hours out of the 40 you were on the clock.
The Governor of Arkansas did a couple of excrutiating adds. One for shoe inserts and one for prettying up her teeth. Do not bother to investigate. Pathetic as usual for MAGA.
I would love to have a 32 hour work week. A lot of schools in Montana are going to 4 day weeks, but our district never will because so many kids are food insecure, which is a fancy way of saying they aren't sure where the next meal will come from until the weekend is over when they go home on Friday.
The whole problem with legislation for Software is that Software doesn't actually exist. There are programs, which are similar as books, but Software is what you get when you execute the program, i.e. when you read the book. Nowadays software is sold as a service, but back in the days where it was actually sold, there was (still is) room for several misunderstandings and paradoxes. For instance, Price. How can you sell something whose offer is infinite? How can it be regulated by a market? Today we have layers and layers of nothing, where the only regulations come from the manufacturers, who are tech billionaires. We, the public, we are dead on the water on this case. Germany has(d) the Pirate party, which was trying to enter this fight, but is going belly up. Fighting for a Green World is much easier to agree upon, than fighting for something that demands huge comments on youtube just to get started.
Of all the things you discuss, military logistics are possibly the thing I know the least about. You said the Rafa evacuation operation is not impossible, but your description of the challenges sounds a lot like impossible to me. How many opposition forces are they looking to separate from the civilian population? What will opposition forces be doing during this operation? Pausing? Then what? Bomb? Smoke them out? Where does it fall short of impossible?
"Fake" signatures are a thing in petition drives. Sometimes signatures can't be verified. Voter printed their name unreadably, put an incorrect town, whatever. Smart signature petitioners get at least 20% more signatures than they need, to cover for the ones that can't be verified. Unverifiable signatures don't necessarily point to skulduggery.
Even if it wasn't literally illegal for ByteDance to sell TikTok to the U.S. under Chinese law, American users only make up 10% of the total userbase of the app, comparing a 10% loss of revenue to a 100% loss of revenue is a no brainer. The only way for TikTok to get out of the ban is to sell to the U.S. and there's no way they're doing that given the circumstances especially since those circumstances are the same circumstances that were around when Trump (may he rot in prison) tried the same "Ultimatum." Calling this anything other than a ban is naïve. I suspect Rand Paul (may that A-Hole retire soon) is going to block it again in the senate like he did last time in 2022, but if it goes through: It. Is. A. Ban.
Indeed, and it's pretty clearly an attempt to protect the USA near-monopoly on internationally-relevant social media platforms (by either wresting control of or rendering internationally irrelevant their only current competitor and signalling a willingness to do so to any future challengers, thus tanking investment), as those social media platforms continue to choke out all other Internet usage year by year.
Anyone who wants to read more: Project Gutenberg and the Internet Archive. Thousands of books; many of them 'banned" but now in the Public Domain. many of them that can apply directly to today Suggestions include:Democracy in America, Frankenstein, Sun Also Rises; For Whom the Bell Tolls; Iron Fist; A Wealth of Nations, A Modest Proposal; Huckleberry Finn, All Quiet on the Western Front
If they force the sale of TikTok to an American owner, will congress set the price, if so will it be a fair price? Since ALL apps gather user data, which foreign owned successful app will be next? Are they simply going to nationalize all non US businesses on the app stores? This isn't a TikTok ban, this is a declaration that China aren't allowed to be better than the US at crating apps.
My thoughts exactly. The point of this is that they don't like Silicon Valley having competitors, either for the economic tribute-taking value of the SV monopoly, the strategic position of having sole veto power to influence what stories people see, the user data ingested by SV companies and passed on to American intelligence, or more likely some combination of all three. I liken it to a game of Monopoly: Once you have all but one property in a set, you'll fight far harder to get whichever one eludes your grasp, because the benefits of a monopoly are disproportionate to simply adding one more to your assets. In this case, it's a clear attempt to preserve the effective Silicon Valley social media monopoly by forcing the only internationally popular non-USA to cease being international (thus rendering it an effective non-player like other platforms popular only in specific regions) or become American.
As far as the banned books, at this point they are going after children/ YA lit so I don't know if that would be stuff for adult listeners but book recommendations are always great (especially since critical thinking, and government/civics are no longer taught in schools and accurate history never was.

Yeah it used to be 12hour days by 10 year olds.
What I am loving, is the number of companies that tested the 4 day work week (for same pay) and their surprise when production actually increased
The key issue is who is doing the spying and whether or not they can get the information.

According to the comments of some Texans on YT, if they were going to evacuate Dallas, Texas infrastructure is so bad that would also have to be on foot. As far as Gaza goes, though, to be serious, that’s both insane snd horrifying.
Some Texans are highly exagerrating.

Netanyahu and the Likud Party have repeatedly and openly referred to the Palestinians as “Amalek” a supposedly ancient people of the region that “god” told them to wipe out ‘kill every man, woman, child and suckling- to include their livestock’ - ‘to blot out any remembrance of them’
Nothing spells genocide like Old Testament biblical references… They chant about it in IDF rallies and Israeli popular songs.
We are sending money and weapons to an extremist death cult. One we erroneously call an “ally”.
Just look around for Israel and the word Amalek - it’s disgusting.
There were a couple "inhuman animals" quotes from in October. Is that what you are looking for?

Well it probably coincided with a trip to the border and to see where all the SD oil is refined.

The Irish constitution says "28.5.1 The head of the Government, or Prime Minister, shall be called, and is in this Constitution referred to as, the Taoiseach."
The Irish text, which takes precedence in the event of a conflict, doesn't disagree, but I would argue it is more direct. It reads "28.5.1 An Taoiseach is teideal do cheann an Rialtais, .i. an Príomh-Aire, agus sin é a bheirtear air sa Bhunreacht seo." which translates to "_An Taoiseach_ is the title of the head of Government, i.e. the Prime Minister and this is how it is referred to in this Constitution."
Both titles are understood, but Taoiseach would definitely be preferred.

Insulin-producing cows would be big news for dairy farmers as well. There would be some serious environmental concerns, but they could be resolved as long as there was motivation to do so. The ethical concerns about the use of animals would be another concern that might be a little more difficult to overcome.
Half of all global insulin production _now_ is made by genetically modified yeast. It’s not clear at all why a cow is going to be more cost effective.
A long while back now i saw articles about australia testing a cattle feed to reduce methane emissions in dairy cows. I'd imagine that has gone somewhere by this point.

Used to have that down south in construction. Start the day at 5am and leave at 3. It was awesome for having an actual life.

In this case it seems like people called the DA after seeing their name and info on it saying they never signed. I feel like this story will develop.

Thousands of books; many of them 'banned" but now in the Public Domain. many of them that can apply directly to today
Suggestions include:Democracy in America, Frankenstein, Sun Also Rises; For Whom the Bell Tolls; Iron Fist; A Wealth of Nations, A Modest Proposal; Huckleberry Finn, All Quiet on the Western Front
Thank you
Sharing Beau's videos is caring. 🙂🇺🇸
In this case, it's a clear attempt to preserve the effective Silicon Valley social media monopoly by forcing the only internationally popular non-USA to cease being international (thus rendering it an effective non-player like other platforms popular only in specific regions) or become American.
how is israel going to separate out the opposition from the public when they're not wearing uniforms?
