      The people who oppose abortion also seem to appear to oppose the precautions needed to avoid becoming pregnant to begin with (and make it the woman's responsibility, as if the man has nothing to do with it). They have an almost prurient obsession with other people's intimate lives and forcing their own beliefs onto others regarding said intimacy. Go to any old cemetery anywhere in the USA. Walk through and look at tombstones from prior to the mid-1930s. Then count the number of graves for infants and children. Mortality rates due to a lack of basic sanitation and basic public health practices were extremely high. In the 1950s when antibiotics really made major breakthroughs, along with efforts to vaccinate people for a variety of issues dropped child mortality even more. Women could have had ten babies but often only a few made it to adulthood. And mothers often died during pregnancy and birth as well.

    A significant factor in the republicans attack on family planning has to do with the current birthrate. There needs to be a birthrate of 2% for a country's population to be stable. The US and several other Western countries are at 1.7% or lower. Here in the US, this fact is driving a lot of the conspiracy theories, in particular the Replacement theory. As long as the Congress refuses to deal with income inequality, causing the financial necessity for possible parents to both have to work , it will continue to be a major factor in the declining. birthrate. Add in healthcare costs and the lack of viable daycare, it is no wonder couples are having fewer or no children at all. Until the social ills that cripple our country are addressed, our long downward slide will continue.

    • @05Matz
      @05Matz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Typically electric trains are externally powered with cables hung above the rails (attached to the power grid), apparently this works extremely well. Unfortunately, a lot of USA projects have been specifically sabotaged to legally require only 'battery electric' trains, which work the way you're thinking of and might benefit from such a scheme -- but that would drive the costs up even further than they already have been. Externally-powered trains are a far better idea in general, though.

The folks in the suburbs do not want to walk half a mile to public transportation, so the don't ask for it to be more robust. They don't conceive of last mile solutions. Yes, we know that rural folks will still need and want pick up trucks. However, you are also lulling the SUV driving soccer moms into a false sense of security. I was wondering if the security worries for aid in Northern Gaza were just because not enough aid is getting through. Hearing Beau say that flooding aid would remove black market problems makes me more confident that the security problems in the North are caused by shortages.

    Trains would require a lot of revamping. When I lived in East Central Florida I considered taking a train to visit my family in the southern part of Illinois (300+ miles South of Chicago). It would have taken 3 days, up the east coast, across to Chicago then south the 300+ miles. I once inquired about a route that didn't go up the East Coast. two and one-half days with an eight to twelve-hour layover somewhere near New Orleans, no accommodations provided.
    Needless to say I always flew or drove. About a twelve hour drive each way or 8 hours flying, including travel to the airport. (Edited for punctuation and spelling)

    Even in Japan, where they have the Shinkansen (bullet trains), they still fly a lot. The budget carriers are cheaper and faster than even a bullet train.

    Relieved to find that the eclipse glasses I got are on the list. Also did a light test and saw nothing while looking directly at an interior lights. BTW, even if you have approved glasses, if your eyes hurt at all then stop looking!
