Well you gotta understand his conciseness tells him it’s idolatry and if he doesn’t “knock down for others” like you said he would also be doing something morally wrong? So who’s correct?

Read Mathew 24 where Yeshua warns that there will be MANY false Christs. Leading people to churches that tickle their ears and creating a god in their own image. Walk circumspectly and pray for every human being. We are in the Era of Deception that may fool even the elect.
Yes. I agree with the premise. We never want to say, but look at the results. Whether we approve or disapprove of the Chosen, we should never use "results" as a biblical reason for doing it.
I think we should be careful that in using artistic license that we do not make Jesus into an image of our imagination instead of who the Bible says He is. This idea would fit in with the 2nd Commandment because it is not about just making a physical item to worship. It's also about not making any likeness which could be a mental image that does not reflect truth to worship. And if this TV show were to cause someone to stumble at the 2nd commandment it would be in creating a false mental image. However, regarding the commandments we also need to be careful of the 9th commandment when using artistic license. The 9th commandment is often thought of as 'do not lie' but more accurately it is to not bear false witness. We need to remember that the people in the Bible who believed in Jesus are very real people and that we will meet them in the Kingdom someday. To make an insinuation about who they are without evidence in the Bible to back up the claim could be bearing false witness about them. And frankly I wouldn't want any of them coming up to me and asking why I portrayed them improperly. Finally, I refrain from watching shows about the Bible all together because over the years I have found stuff like that is usually not completely accurate to the Bible. And it is easier to not get something stuck in your brain than to have to unlearn something stuck in your brain. And perhaps it is also because of an early Christian rock song I used to listen to by White Heart called 'Read The Book (Don't Wait For The Movie)'.
Romans 14 comes to mind. Personal conviction. We should stop trying to waste time in these secondary issues and share the Gospel. If I’m wrong, please God, fix my mistake🙏🏻✝️🕊️
The problem with what your saying is that his personal conviction isn’t just that it’s a violation of the second commandment but that if he also doesn’t speak against it than he would be doing something morally wrong so than where does your personal conviction kick in if they both conflate and have to conflate each other?
Also if what he’s saying is true how in the world can you really say it’s a secondary issue and it’s about idolatry? It makes me wish I knew Jesus back then and want a better relationship with Him now. I absolutely loved the guys take on icon vs idol because he was spot on! Great video!
It teaches us more about Jesus. I haven't read the whole Bible, but I've started to. Things like The Chosen, The passion of the Christ make me dig deeper and want to know more.
It’s wrong if you’re image of Jesus is of the actor, I do fear that some people imagine Jesus as that actor now even subconsciously. Not that you are but perhaps others may and I think that may be why it says in the bible not to create idols with your hands out of anything in heaven above.
At the end of the day, God can use even the worst things to draw people to him (not saying the chosen is the worst lol). But that's also what my mom cited. She used to listen to Joyce Myers when she was a new Christian, and Joyce was what got her into Christianity. As she grew, she realized Joyce wasn't really all that biblical, and had many theological issues, but at that point the seed was planted, and she then started seeking out other sources.

In the very beginning of the first episode it specifically says that the show is not a replacement for reading the Bible and that they changed some of the stories to make them fit AND it encourages the watcher of the show to read the scriptures for themselves
Yet we as humans have fallen to sin and are not perfect yet. Do you want to a take chance of one single person falling to idolatry that previously wasn't?
@MossEYE- But if the show has reignited a considerable amount of interest for Christianity, is that idolatry? Or would the show become more like an icon, in that it points us back to God?
@@pinesandtraplinescould you not argue that I could therefore create any blasphemous show about Jesus with a bunch of lies in it and that would equally get people interested in the bible. @KingLudds But theres a difference between creative writing, which the show does and is openly saying it's not 100% accurate to scripture, and outright lying with intent to deceive. If I say: "____ is my opinion about the Bible", would you say Im leading people into some sin because Im clearly stating an opinion but others dont understand that I stated its my opinion? Would that be my fault, or theirs?
@Lee-km7qq Are you referring to the blessings and curses found in Revelation? Becuase the New Testament is an "addition" to the Old Testament, which is also the word of God, because the OT wasn't written at the same time as the New Testament.
When I watched The Chossen season 1 a year and a half ago. It drew me to WANT to read the Bible. I had always had conversations about religion with a close Christian friend of mine and had been seeking the truth for my whole life. I always felt i needed to actually read the Bible instead of just referenceing bits and pieces, but once I watch The Chossen I felt so inspired and compelled to do so. And shortly after, God gave me a Bible (could be a whole other story)! And I read/listened at work till I finished, and have been on my journey of growth in relationship with our Father ever since. So I'd say THAT is the whole point to the series. Like you said, to point people in the right direction!
@Jessica You said the key word... RELATIONSHIP! This is what Father God desires. Jesus Christ did not come into the world to give us religion but to restore mankind's relationship with God, which Adam caused us to lose when he decided to obey satan. May God continue to bless you on your journey. Can I recommend an excellent minister to you? His name is Joseph Prince; a great teacher about grace, God's love for us, and righteousness (right-standing with God) which is a gift.

When I began to back away from The Chisen, was when Jonathan Rhoumie in character said Jesus is A Way rather than THE Way. Subtle but powerful. I haven't watched an episode since. Such a shame. I used to love the show.
I literally think that they went too far with this. Why Because Satan has a way of taking something that started out really well and turning it upside down. I've seen comments posted on social media talking about when Jesus cried I cried and I had to back up and say hold on This is an actor This is not Jesus. And that's where the thin line is with me. They're actors portraying actual people. That lived years ago so I think that viewers need to be really careful because it's easy for Satan to take something that was harmless and cause it to become an idol but people don't understand that.
There was a video that Voddie responded to where the wife of a pastor said she sees the actor in her mind when she thinks of Jesus and Voddie said that is dangerous and that he won't try the show because of stuff like that. I saw it a few months ago. I don't remember what channel it was on.
Appreciate this. And in the video played, there is the quote, "worship is the highest point of your attention." We've never seen or heard of a single person who has made The Chosen or Jonathan Roumie or his portrayal the highest point of their attention. All we ever hear is that the show has caused people to make Jesus and the Bible the highest point of their attention when it wasn't before.
Thanks for commenting here, Dallas. People are really missing the mark and getting legalist about this, citing weird possibilities instead of recognizing the impact your show has had on people who don't know Christ and on Christians who see Christ as so much more distant from us than He was and is. I see Christ in your work and through the actors you have telling His story. It is absurd to imagine anyone worshipping the show or any of the people on it. Thank you for sharing the Gospel.
According to Jesus the second commandment is to love thy neighbor as thyself, but to the commandment Vodie is talking about he is wrong because it is not a graven image and it is not being worshipped, he is heresy hunting, making the same mistake the pharisees made in putting all the focus on the letter of the law and missing the true meaning, he should be rejoicing in the fact people are turning their selves to the lord and reading the scriptures some for the first time, this is jealousy pure and simple.
This is also the problem with a million denominations. Some people are taught to think this way. It's shocking and that sort of rhetoric makes it hard for all of us to come together but also scares off people looking into christianity
Hebrews 10:20 (NLT)- By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain, that is, through his flesh. This Bible verse is referring to the Temple Veil, thus God Himself is deliberately making a visual image representation of Jesus' flesh. This very clearly says it's permissible to Artistically depict Theophanic Appearances, because Theophanies are Veils, not the infinite appearance of God. God is not restricted to one man, God merely arrived in the form of veils to reach out to us, a man and as a bush in the past. God said not to depict his infinite form because A. How can the finite depict the Infinite B. Choosing to bring the infinite into a finite object leads to Idolatry. Yet according to Hebrews 10:20, God himself permits the depiction of Veils since God's Veiled forms do not expose God's infinite form. I've also learned lately that Acting is permitted as a form of Messaging. Since Jesus' flesh and the Burning Bush and the Angel of the Lord are all Veils, I see no consistency in calling Artistic Veils Sin. As beloved as Voddie is, if he wants to be consistent with his view that actors portraying Jesus are committing Idolatry, then he must accuse whoever made the Temple Veil for committing Idolatry for making a visual of Jesus' flesh. Even though God permits the Veil as a visual symbol of Christ's Flesh, not according to me, according to Hebrews 10:20. What's more, Voddie proclaims himself as a "fire-breathing, TULIP believing, five-point Calvinist." Even though Calvinism is dangerously inconsistent with God's Character when you think about it. I know there's a difference between Calvinism and Reformed Theologies, I'm just quoting Voddie himself. Calvinism is dangerous because if we are all pre-determined to Heaven or Hell, what's the point in trying to lead a Good Christian life in the first place? From what I've learned, I currently believe your right about one thing particularly fayewood1377. Voddie is heresy hunting. According to Hebrews 10:20, this hunting has been in vain in this case. Of course, that depends on the direction of the Chosen crew. If people start worshipping Jonathan Roamie, we'll have problems. If the Chosen crew is merely making a message to Worship Jesus, then that's wonderful. Since Acting, according to what Scripture implies, is just Messaging (period), then I see no sin in Acting as Sacred Veils and Heroes and Villains as long as the Message(s) to Worship Christ and lead a humble life are made clear. I fear Voddie is a legalist. Pray for him and the Chosen Team.
THANK YOU. My thoughts, EXACTLY! How in the world can anything that actually leads/prompts people to read the Bible be considered sinful or heresy?? Ridiculous🙄. That man has said a lot of things that are just crazy. Can’t stand him🤷🏾♀️.
Watching The Chosen hooked me in. I went out and bought a bible and started reading it because of this show. I have been lost for a long time and because of this show i could hear Jesus calling me back into his light. I agree that this is a great way to get peoples attention to grab a bible.
The chosen is helpful for bringing Christianity into a new sphere of culture, but for me personally it gets in the way of my own reading of scripture. There are too many leaps in the show that I can’t unsee when I do my own time in the word (I.e. Matthew having a form of autism, or extra-biblical lines). It’s a barrier that I just can’t get over. I don’t hate on people that watch it but I tend to think it does more harm than good.
We also need to realize that people in the Bible were real people. I'd hate to be the writer of any Biblically based show that took artistic license with someone's character and have to explain to them why I caused multitudes of people to see them in a wrong way.
Now this is a compassionate & effective communication. You captured the essence of may favorite Qoute a out unity of the church in diversity of opions, "In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, love"
While I might disagree, THIS is the right response for chosen haters. "I don't like it because it's a stumbling block for me" is a fantastic reason. Romans 14 all day, baby! Thank you for accurately showing your disagreement in a biblical way. Many need to take your example to heart.
@@MisertheWizer I like Jim's portrayal n have always liked The Passion but my reason for not liking The Chosen has nothing to do with that. I think it might be the way they talk. They use very modern words. I watched a few episodes from the first season and I liked the woman at the well scene but I just fell off from watching it.
This is why we can't have nice things. Some Christians will complain about not having good, faith based and pure movies and shows, but then those same people will complain and nitpick Christian shows. I love the Chosen and I believe it sticks to the Bible for the most part. It's silent on what the bible is silent on, and speaks up on what the bible speaks on. What exactly do they want from Dallas?
More like not exactly. It is not silent where the Bible is silent. It takes artistic license and fills in things that reading the Word would not produce in your mind. For example no where in the Bible do you get the idea that Matthew was autistic.
True. I'm sad because I loved The Chosen. This show is one of the instruments God have given to gather my family and talks about Jesus. It also helps me to push on reading the Bible. I loved movies/films and I'm searching for a Christian movies/film until I found The Chosen (I'm aware that they don't act fully the gospel, still, they are biblical)
Also, Matthew and the other people in the Bible are real people. We will one day meet them, at least those who believed Jesus. I would hate to have to apologize to them for causing falsehoods to be believed about them.
@@tjhunter3530 Not autistic but the way Matthew is portrayed as a social outsider is pretty accurate as tax collectors working for the Romans were seen traitors by Pharisees back then. So the way he´s portrayed as someone rejected by his family is not just an artistic invention but could have been his experience. But if the show tried to follow the Bible verse there would be even more of a problem since now one could argue that they try to replace the Bible. I watch the show with 1 Thessalonians 5, 21 in mind.
The problem is they can't do that with Shakespeare, so why should a new show about Jesus that tells you it is fiction based on Scripture be condemned for their ignorance? They are in trouble already, at least the Chosen can inspire them to seek Christ.
@DavidWayne81 the reason is obedience our responsibility is to obey God. Doing something for God in disobedience is sin. God took the kingdom from Saul for doing things his way not God's. In John chapter 1 the Bible makes it clear the Word of God and Christ are the same so mishandling the word and creating false images in man's head is disobedience
The problem with the Chosen is not that it is fanfiction. It is that it rides the thin line on pretending that it is not. and that people do, incorrectly, interpret that the Jesus in the show is comparable to Jesus.
@@vinzetti22 there's certain scenes which portray Jesus doing things that go against his character, like when Nichodimas kneels and kisses his hand, Jesus asks "what are you doing" as if questioning why he's worshiping him, which when compared to several verses in the bible which show Jesus never stopped someone when it came to worshiping him, whether it be peter, or John or anyone else. It might not be breaking the literal 2nd commandant but i fear like it goes against the spirit of the law, to make an image of god in your mind that contradicts what we're taught in scripture- god's word.
@@Aloncohen7 I didn't take that scene as him trying to stop Nicodemus, I took it as him trying to get Nicodemus to say what he already knew..... just like in Mark 10:18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good-except God alone." In that verse, Jesus is trying to get someone to admit that they know he is God, not telling them to stop.
I thank God for Dallas creating the Chosen. It brought me to salvation. I started watching Christian Videos bc of seeing it, and ultimately gave my life to Christ. Thanks Dallas, I will always be grateful!!! The Chosen is reaching so many people who would never go to church.
The Chosen generates positive interest in Yeshua. Its up to each of us to read the entire bible for ourselves. Its how we develop relationship with Yahweh and come to know Him. His will be done
It's not about the platform being presented on. It's the fact that the chosen has now become a stumbling block to people. So many think of Christ as how He is portrayed in the tv show. And the show It's self is putting out alot on study guides and things that don't particularly line up with scripture well. Or the way they say things and do scenes in the show doesn't line up with the bible. In this is where the issue lies. I know they say it's not a replacement for the bible but alot of people are treating it that way. It's on the people doing this to repent, but if the stumbling block was not there then it wouldn't be an issue.
I also wanna point out I've watched numerous adaptations of the Jesus story and I am grateful for all of them coz without them I would never have known about Jesus coz I was brought up in a non religious family who never thought to teach me about him and where I live there have never been a single preacher on the streets or even a priest so I for one am incredibly grateful for the medium of film providing me with that knowledge! without it I would be in the dark. also the chosen was the first adaptation where I was so moved I for the first time balled my eyes out at the realization of what he did for us. that scene where he almost gets thrown off the cliff killed me!
I agree this can be a personal conviction!!! Yet there are definitely other things wrong with the Show. We as Christians are supposed to be set apart there’s no reason why we should Mormons who believe complete lies about Christ help but a “Christ centered” film together. If ppl are “coming to Christ” yet it’s the wrong Christ there’s no salvation!
I loved this. Thank you. Jonathon is such a wise man. I have been visiting an Orthodox church and I've had so many people tell me they are worshipping idols...and I'm like no they're not and you don't understand that passage, but they are 100 % convinced they're right.

@@markhunter9646 So there shouldn’t be Christian tv shows or movies because some people MAY take the actors image as Gods image? Some people see their pastors as another God incarnate, does that mean there shouldn’t be pastors? This is why we can’t have nice things, because people abuse it and condemn the rest of us
I love watching the Chosen. It is a great tool to share Christ. I had a friend that I was patiently sharing with over four years give her life to Christ watching the Chosen. Today we talk about Christ, share His word and Pray together and almost never talk about the Chosen except when is the next movie is coming out.
There was a lady that said she saw “Jonathan Ramey” (I don’t know how to spell his last name) but she sees him every time she prays. I read her statement myself it was disturbing.
That's disturbing how? Shes not praying to Jonathan, shes praying to Jesus. Jonathan is just a mental image she uses to help her visualize, since yk. We dont know what Jesus looked like. If you really, truly think a lady praying to Jesus is disturbing in any way, you need to humble yourself.
@@lilblock3564 you know, every time you point your finger at someone you have three pointing back at yourself. That lady’s post that I read was very disturbing. Just so you know, I do ask for my Lord God Yeshua to convict and change my heart and prune and anything of me that is not of Him!! You should try it!!
But that is still a "personal problem", that has nothing to do with the show merely existing. Which is more the point many are making, which is frankly just goofy lol. You can make an "idol" out of a cheeseburger 🍔, that doesn't make eating cheeseburgers idolatry lol.
Thank you Voodie for bringing the truth. A lot of “Christians” would rather be entertained than read the Word of God. Especially this new generation who think they have so much knowledge and understanding but are biblically illiterate. But it’s not limited to just the younger Christians but a lot of others. This guy actually compared the Gospels of our Lord(this is what Voodie and John share) to what D. Jenkins created. Wow!
It's like saying, "We can't trust this person's word, or God will never use this person, because they're sinners." Well, problem is, we're all sinners...this argument doesn't work. I've watched every episode and saw nothing that contradicts the New Testament, while understanding that it's a TV show and not the Bible.
Icons can be a problem. When a correct/encouraged practice includes lying prostrate in front of the Icon because the veneration you give the icon "passes to" the one it represents...seems like a distinction without a difference with worship.
4:28 I thing the difference is that someone going on someone else's tv or radio show, is different than establishing a long lasting partnership or permanent association. Two different things.
I love the chosen it makes the Bible more reliable reading the Bible is important but when you have a very powerful view of what it must have been like to have been there it definitely makes you appreciate what God and Jesus did for us
You have to look at the Chosen for what it is. It's an entertainment piece, it's not a substitute for the Bible, even though it can help someone in their faith, like any other piece of media. If you give that much importance to a series that watching it would be the same to you as worshipping it as an idol, you have the problem.
Exactly, its an work entertainment that porints toward scripture, not something that replicates scripture or replaces it. I remember seeing various live action representations of different part of the bible, and while they were informative and helped present scripture in a more visual manner, they were clearly meant for teaching and were usually dry (even when using drmatic visuals or music). Did people get this worked up over Disney's The Prince of Egypt? 😅
This worlds’ in iniquity; the scripture says make no carved image, or any likeness of anything…. The OR includes “The Chosen”. Devils love to play with words.
Words are not the only thing that Satan likes to play with. There are many forms of bowing and worshiping. I believe it can be a literal bowing down to worship or a mental situation. So we can take scripture out of context in order to fit it to our agenda but it's still doesn't make it right.
Ruslan, bruh you do an excellent job processing through these topics. I'm not just blowing smoke just thankful that you take the time to be measured and grounded in your perspective. God bless you and yours Sir.
How can it be no images, are you not the image of God, furthermore this was a specific law made more specific stating graven image as if made of stone in which at the time there was a history of making for idol worship, yet point is understood to modern times yet every law of the Jews was not transferred over to the covenant with Christ! Most importantly we are again the image of God esp if we have believed in Jesus name, even stronger than that you are not just the image, are you not the body of Christ himself with the purpose of presenting the gospel. That’s what the show is doing as long as they stay true to the word! It’s not a graven image, it’s a vessel being used if appropriately that God be known and worshipped.
I thank God for the show for existing. It rejuvenated my walk with Christ, led me to read and study the Bible, and eventually led me to get baptized. God has used The Chosen to bring so many people to Jesus. God bless Dallas and the team for making the show possible :)
Such a great video and discussion! I think what we have to remember when it comes to idols is that it is the condition of man's heart that can turn something completely benign into an idol. For example, God gave instruction for the Children of Israel to load up to take with them, much of the wealth of Egypt. I'm assuming that would have been gold, gold jewelry, etc. Those things were not being worshipped by Israel, but when their hearts went astray from God, their hearts instructed their hands to fashion that gold and jewelry into an image of a golden calf so they could worship it. The gold items themselves were not idols, they created an idol from them. The Chosen or it's actors is not the idol, designed to take attention away from God. Dallas is careful to stress this message over and over and point people to utilize it as a tool to point their hearts toward God. We would have to throw out every popular preacher, book, devotion, because they can become idols because the heart of man turns them into such. The message to people has to be, guard your heart....do not allow anything to replace God. But certainly we can utilize good resources to point us or guide us to God. What would Voddie say about Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ. I personally know many people that came to a saving relationship with Christ after watching it. I think there are bigger issues we can address here. If you know someone watching The Chosen, DISCIPLE THEM! Don't miss a fantastic opportunity that has been teed up perfectly to disciple them. I disciple several women and have occasionally used The Chosen as a tool to point them to and lead them through Scripture to follow and obey Jesus and strengthen their faith.
Glen Beck and Shapiro are just platforms. Angel Studios is not just a show host "platforming" them - they are built into the production, funding and distribution.
So, tell us oh wise one- what are we to see when we pray? It is not relevant how He looks in our imagination, it matters that we sincerely seek and worship Him for who He really is, and seek to understand who he really is through scriptures rather than FALSELY create our own notion of who He is- or ISN'T. Can you say for sure that Jesus didn't look like Johnathan? Don't create a false image of Him- you are doing that by arbitrarily saying what He can't look like more than someone is by innocently having an impression in their mind of what He might look like based on what they have seen that makes them think of Him.
I am thankful for the series The Chosen. I homeschool...it has become required to watch and essay writing on each episode. It has brought my twin teen boys close to God. They pray now without any prompts, ask intelligent questions, and have become *Christ Seekers* All my other adult children came to Christ thru traditional ways, but my twins needed something differently. Thank you to everyone involved in the tv series THE CHOSEN. 🙏 CHRIST IS KING OF KINGS AMD LORD OF LORDS❤
I even appreciate the ways the show fleshes out scripture in ways that arent "technically" in the Bible, because it provides excellent opportunities for discussion that ties back to official scripture, similar to questions found at the end of books. For example, what do we really know about the woman at the well? What does scripture say? What are the possible interpretations of her backstory from the little we are told, and how are these represented throughout church history? In what ways did the show expand her backstory, and how does this provide different perspectives thata are still in line with the character of Jesus and the reason listed in scripture that he came to see the Samaritan woman?
I loved the chosen, and can’t wait for season 4, I’m more of a visual person so the show is allowing me to see the parables and story’s I’ve already knew of from reading the New Testament.
I can't watch the scene with the woman at the well without crying. It also made me realize, once i was inspired to read that section of scripture again, that although she is often portrayed as an adulteress or a prostitute, we're only given bare facts. She has had multiple husbands, and her current parter isnt her husband. That's it. She could have been an adulteress, or she could have been a widow several times, or a victim of abuse, etc. Whatever led her to live with a man not her partner, we don't know. So i personally love that The Chosen decided to give her a backstory of a women whose good intentions and subsequent mistreatment led to a life of brokeness and status of an outcast. He SAW her, He specifically went to Samaria FOR HER. We may not know the specific details of why she was so isolated/an outcast, but what The Chosen reinforces was that he cared about her even if society didn't, and he wanted everyone to know that even the outcasts to know their value to God and their opportunity for salvation. Gets me every time 😭😭
Everyones mental image of Jesus has come from modern media. Whether its illustrations from a catholic bible, a childrens bible, The Passion, one of the countless movies made over the years. Most of us picture him based on someone's illustratied vision of him. This is silly.
That's the very issue. If people adhered to the 2nd commandment properly you won't have such mental images of Jesus based on some human's creative imagination.
A simple analogy would be someone making a biopic about Ruslan, and 75% of the film were made up stories about him, but Ruslan fans were obsessed with it and talked about how much more they loved Ruslan and deepened their understanding of him. See the problem here?
First of all the most of the stuff that happens in the chosen are events that happened in the Bible so saying 75 percent is made up is wrong also there is nothing wrong with a show that deepens people’s love for Jesus
whether or not it's truly idolatrous to watch the Chosen, I've already heard people say that, after they've watched this show for an extended period, whenever they prayed or even thought about the Lord Jesus, they pictured the actor who played Jesus in The Chosen. That is not okay.
There are a good number of records of God’s people falling into idolatry. Idols made their way into the temple throughout the Bible so I believe it is wise to be careful not to write off when people raise the alarm of idolatry.
I think there are people that have turned the cast members from The Chosen into idols. You see it whenever the cast members go to events. The way people worship these actors is very much idol worship. Do I think that was Dallas' aim? Absolutely not. I think that those particular fans need to check their hearts and make sure that they are putting The Chosen and the actors in the correct perspective. At the same time, I think that Dallas and the actors need to make sure they are always always always pointing to God.
Perhaps one day, we will all believe the same TRUTH, and we will have the same understanding, being aligned with God's will. I can't wait for religion to end! Maybe that is my vision of heaven!?
Icons are idols. They bow to them, they pray to them, they kiss them. Looks and quacks like a duck. Just because the Church has a tradition doesn't mean it's good.
I've just recently become a catechumen for a Greek Orthodox Chuch in my area and I had a question similar to your statement. The priest said this to me, "We hold reverence for the icon because of Christ who lived in that person, not the person that lived." Which is similar to Jonathon's view of icons pointing to Christ and then to God. - 13:10 I think when Jonathon mentioned how idols were worshiped and depicted in the OT is very different from how icons are venerated today. - 12:00 I'm sure many people end up worshiping icons, turning them into idols, but I think that's a flaw on their part not the Church as a whole. This is a very interesting topic that I know basically nothing about, but I thought I'd share and I appreciate your point of view!
@@jada3858 The only object that comes to mind where an image was created that represented God in the way they describe their icons doing is the bronze serpent. It was commanded by God directly to be built. Two quick points, God only commanded that the Hebrews look upon it to cure the snake venom, and later it was destroyed after they erected it and began praying to it and God praised it's destruction.
@@Shane_The_Confessor I’m sorry, I’m not well versed in the OT and that's why I relied on Jonathon earlier. So, I’m sure some of what you’re saying is going over my head. But, I think you’re saying icons will inevitably become idols, correct? I don’t really have an answer/rebuttal for you, I can say it’s a slippery slope though. I find it helpful to remember (when I’m towing the line) why you’d kiss them (veneration), pray to them (intercessory prayer), and bow to them (prostration). And the fact they were human meaning: they were flawed in some way and therefore, not divine, helps. If my priest and his predecessors all agree icons don’t (generally) and weren’t made to break the 2nd commandment. Then, I have to trust them because 1. I’m new to Orthodoxy and they know more then me 2. I tend to practice with my heart rather than my mind and icons give my heart great comfort! Thank you for this nice and respectful dialogue. It’s nice to have conversations relating to Christianity that remain civil. I found you don’t engage in much as a Christian, with fellow Christians or non believers.
"If, because of the law, you prohibit images, watch that you keep the Sabbath and are circumcised; for these the law unyieldingly commands." St John of Damascus Isaiah 42:17 They shall be turned back, They shall be greatly ashamed, Who trust in carved images, Who say to the molded images, ‘You are our gods.’ this verse captures the idea of idolatry which is **replacing** the worship of God with images.
Yes! When it comes to the icon vs idol discussion! Exactly on point! I don't worship the cross, but when i see a cross it's a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice. I have a nativity scene that i keep up year round. I don't bow down to it, but it reminds me daily of the incarnation.
The "thing" doesn't make itself an idol, the ones worshipping do. If someone looks up to Voddie, wants to run a church like Voddie, puts him on a pedestal, thinks he's going to solve all his problems, and Voddie is infallible, or idolizes him for all he's done. Is that Voddie's fault, or the person who idolized him. Voddie seems way off base. There's two things the show the Chosen has done for me. It made me want to read my Bible more, "Did Jesus really say that?" And I would look it up to confirm. The second things is. Jesus In rhe bible is very one dimensional. We don't see the relationships between him and the 12. They are very vague. Seeing the relationships come to life. And the character Jesus in the show having these deep, serious, funny, loving relationships, made me want to have a better relationship with real Jesus. So, I will never fault the show for that.
@psmith4911 Yes. We don't see relationships form, we don't see the friendships, bonds, the love for family and friends. We get glimpses of it. But it's very basic. The Bible is not a novel, it's not skilled writers weaving a tale. It's real eyewitness accounts, more like a news story. Seeing the stories come to life in a biblical movie, or tv show takes these characters, and shows what life could have been like for this people, what relationships could have looked like. Again, the Bible is our Word, it is our rock. Pastors, writers, actors, directors can take what is on paper and bring it to life with stories, dramas, tv shows or movies. Which is not something we see on a page within the Bible. We don't even know based in the Bible what anyone looks like. In most cases is that important, maybe not for most. But some people love to see things come alive visually like a drama in Branson about the life of Jesus. Or a movie, tv show, or even a pastor that can vocalize a story that brings it to life. One dimensional just means it's on paper. You can't see, taste, touch, or smell it.
@@visualfiction5241 Yes. It's words in print. Why do you think people like the Passion play, or all the plays Branson does? Because they like to see the words come alive.
And, if he REALLY feels this is true, then he should be campaigning against EVERY movie and EVERY church depiction of JESUS for Resurrection plays and skits in EVERY church in the world along with EVERY play that ever been and will be done, not just this series. If the Lord has a problem with anything that we do, He definitely knows how to tell us and He will.
The Chosen has is not a documentary, and is not perfect in all that it does... but it has done a far better job of showing Jesus in His historical and cultural context than every other portrayal I've ever seen. I love this show because it is very engaging, IT'S CLEAN, and best of all, it honors God, & it honors the Gospel.
Ruslan, love you brother. Love what you're doing. Found your channel a little while back, recent subscriber, keep doing what you're doing. However...I think you're a little off target with your take on this one. I appreciate your conviction and support of the spread of God's word, but you spent the entire episode refuting Voddie's take, and only briefly passed over the danger if he's right. Those deep in the faith can separate the fact from the fiction, but if a fictional television show is your introduction to Jesus, you're getting a fictional Jesus. You're making an assumption that it feeds the Word, but what it's actually doing, by the show creator's own admission, is adding to the Word. The life of Jesus is full of enough content to fill books. A limited television series has no need to add anything. Regarding your comment that the creator and actors have given the disclosure statement that "this isn't the Bible"...then why are they making the show? We're all subject to our own conviction. If the Holy Spirit wards someone away from such fictional tellings, who are we to tell them otherwise? With that being said, if God wants to use this show to call people to him, he definitely has the power. My fear is just the opposite, if good can use it, evil will be the first in line to corrupt it. Guard your hearts, there's only one true Word of God. Everything else is false.
The creators DEFINITELY do not claim to be adding to the word. That would 100% be heretical and condemned in the Bible. They have a disclaimer that they are not doing so at the beginning of the show. Nor are they attempting to contradict what is in the word. They are simply playing out the idea of what might have happened in areas that the Bible does not specify… but this is not to say IT DID HAPPEN. They in no way claim this
@jacobbaum6421 Hi Jacob, I appreciate your thoughts, and I understand your position. I want to clarify something, though. It wasn't my intention to insinuate they were intentionally trying to alter Jesus' story. I believe they have good intentions, truly. I love a good Bible story movie, but when it comes to the representation of Christ, that is a road paved with pitfalls. Dallas, the shows creator, had an interview with Kirk Cameron where they both expressed the "filling in of details" using the creative license argument to accentuate the story. Which appears to be a similar perspective you express by "playing out the idea of what might have happened". In my mind, that's adding unsubstantiated parts to the story of Jesus. As if His story isn't compelling enough on its own Biblical merit. Why not tell the story of what we know happened? It just feels odd. I was actually going to give it a shot, but after watching some interviews with the people involved and how they were going about it, it just didn't sit right with me. I would encourage everyone to form their own opinion, but be wary, the story of Jesus is not a trivial thing. The good news is, if truth is what we seek, then truth is what we'll find. Thank you for your comment, Jacob, God bless you on your journey.
@@tryingtodobetter290 I came up with mainly two reasons why they do so: 1. The show is aimed at a public audience so it´s not just Christians should be able to understand but also agnostics. They therefore need to add aspects and storylines that help people understand the characters. The Bible doesn´t say much about Peter and the other apostles just portraying as the Bible does is not interesting enough for a common audience from movie making aspect. So you need to build a story around them to introduce them and help the viewer that´s a stranger to Simon, Andreas and the others build a connection to them. A movie or a show isn´t a sermon the point is to show people the world of the first century AD and make them imagine how they act living in that world. There are many aspect biblical stories take for granted a comment dude may not understand like who are the Pharisees, what´s the sanhedrin etc? 2. If the show followed the Bible verse by verse on could argue they try to replace the Bible. So the critic of a show breaking the second command stays. But the alternative of using an allegorical way as portrayal has also its cons since people might not understand the Christian implications. I recently learned that some people consider Lord of the Rings as Christian. I read all three books and watched all three movies but I never thought of it as Christian and I still don´t.
Thank you for articulating this so well. I have had a hard time explaining my position to Christian's and non-Christian’s as of late and this did it with grace. I watched a few episodes with my wife and we decided not to continue because it in-fact made us feel uncomfortable. To make a non-biblical comparison, other movie adaptations of books like for instance the Hobbit that most read as a child first before there was an actor to portray the character. Did we picture Elijah Wood as the Frotto or Orlando Bloom as Legolas? No. In fact the characters take on its own form in your imagination, that is until a movie replaces it. Now I’m forced to picture these actors instead of the image carved together by the word descriptions from the literature and my own imagination. This could easily be applied to numerus other movie adaptations from books as well classic movie remake’s that no one really asked for. So, to wrap up my point, for those NEW to the faith, this could potentially cause SOMEONE to envision the actor portraying Jesus in the Chosen since they would be very new to the faith. When judging my own heart against the Commandments of God I find it easiest to test my merit against it when I feel I may be in contradiction., “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10. Id much rather miss out on something everyone else is doing than be incorrect and be in opposition to the word of God. Ask yourself... if the whole world is onboard with something these days shouldn't Christian's be hesitant to jump on the band wagon too?
I love the Chosen, it sparked my interest of seeking and having a relationship with Jesus Christ. The Chosen team just basically preached the Gospels to me through a TV Series.
@@Jerome616 1 - “Follow Your Heart” - but not to Christ Jesus meets Nicodemus in The Chosen series, and much of their conversation seems scriptural. There are subtle changes, however, such as adding, "What does your heart tell you?"-a popular Disney line. (Remember, the Bible says, "the heart is deceptively wicked".) Later in the series, Jesus says, "Soon it'll all be about the heart”. Subtle is the nature of such mystic teachings. It's worth noting that in this same scene, Nicodemus kneels at Jesus’ feet and The Chosen Jesus stops him, telling Nicodemus he doesn't need to worship Him. The Catholic Church hates the worship of Jesus, and The Chosen follows suit.
@@Jerome616 2 - A Hearsay Gospel Throughout the series, disciples like Matthew and John interview people, running around with notepads and writing down hearsay that will become their supposed Biblical books. In one case, a woman runs by crying, "He healed me!" Matthew, in desperation, calls her saying, "Healed you of what?" The show attempts to destroy the inspiration of Scripture, portraying it as a common book comprised of hearsay. The Bible says, “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost”. 1 John 1:1-3 declares the gospels as eyewitness accounts, and 2 Peter 1:16 echoes this truth. Yet according to The Chosen, John 21:25 came from Mary Magdalene and not John himself. In their rewritten gospel, The Chosen Mary Magdalene plays an oddly feministic role for that time period and even becomes a disciple, traveling with Jesus. There is a subtle deconstruction of inspiration, transforming the Bible into a book of hearsay and fables rather than truth.
@@Jerome616 3 - An Arrogant Forerunner In The Chosen, John the Baptist is arrogant, disrespectful, and always questioning Jesus. In one scene, Jesus says he is not ready to get into specifics, and in a flippant voice John the Baptist responds, “You appear to not be ready to get into the specifics on a lot of things”. In a previous discussion, Jesus speaks to John the Baptist regarding incest and adultery, saying, "I understand it is against the law of Moses, but I am here for bigger purposes than breaking rules". This gives the impression from “Jesus” that John, who is about to confront Herod, is uninspired and even foolhardy-and that “Jesus” doesn’t care about the Ten Commandments. As if seeking attention, John tells Jesus he is planning on marching into Herod's palace to tell him off, and then adds, "My followers will love it." This isn’t what happened! In the Bible, John stated, "I must decrease", so why does The Chosen portray him as arrogant?
The Chosen is a wonderful tool for visiual people like myself. People absorb information in different ways. Lord, may we see less each others imperfections and more your perfect love.
It's a "made-up" visual. That's the problem. It's not the Bible. It's not a true visual representation for the Bible yet many treat it as though it is.
2:56 Unfortunately the Chosen director, Dallas doesn't have an Orthodox priest as one of the theology consultants but only an Orthodox priest. The rest are pastors and like you said a Messianic rabbi. I'm disappointed Dallas had a Catholic priest on but not an Orthodox priest.
I don’t agree with Voddie, but this fails to address the deepest point of 2CV beliefs. The argument that is hard for me to refute is, it is impossible to separate the two natures of Jesus in any depiction of Him. So, when we are drawing the human nature, we are also depicting Christ’s divine nature. It is sinful to attempt to depict an image of God’s divine nature. This argument is less easy to refute.
Chosen was a big part of my son getting in the habit of daily time in His word. As well as in depth study. I was introduced to chosen when it first came out by my in-laws.. who have been a huge part with my walk with the Lord from day, one My ML first thing she said about it was how she uses it to replace her time in Gods Word when she skips her morning QT. As well as more things that looked like this was her new hope . They have been extras a few times because of how much they donate (normally I wouldn’t but this character) My in-laws are very much involved in the church father-in-law ordained, Pastor, etc my other child has special need critical thinking is something that is still not a concept to him. However, this past year the chosen has caused the questions about Jesus and the Bible, that he never asked during our morning time. It is now getting more of a concept of how to respond when I ask him a question instead of just repeating what I say. I tried talking, my son out watching the first episode How I felt it was an idol I did not want my son replacing it. My mom is not a believer or a fan of Christian has opened her Bible I purchased her a few times to look things up as they have watched the chosen, and we have had conversations after. If it causes you to stop watching it but it can be dangerous to send such a negative to others.. From my own personal experience, I have seen more good than harm
In John 4:24 Jesus explained the rationale behind the second commandment: God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. The use of images and other material things as a focus or help to worship denies who God is (Spirit) and how we must worship Him (in spirit and truth).
I’m doing the same thing your doing. I watch a part of the show and keep saying to myself is this part in the Bible? Then I go to the Bible and start reading. Every time I’ve done that there it is in scripture. I’ve been reading my bible every day again because although the show is good and I enjoy watching it, the book is always better as the saying goes about shows made from books. Also because of the disclaimer before the first episode of the chosen I find myself watching each show then reading my bible to see what really happened.
That's crazy that they said when they pray they see the actor guy as Jesus. I have watch all seasons of the chosen and I never for once thought to think of the actor as Jesus when I pray or close my eyes.
My problem with Lds is that their Prophet added books to the Bible… and they go by it believing that god gave him those books.. god said do no add or take away. And that “false prophet” added to the Bible. Did they not read the Bible? They should have known right off the bat as that man they followed said god gave him more books to add to the Bible he was lying. God already stated no to add to it! That’s my problem with Mormon faith. They added to the Bible! God said don’t! And they did! One man led then ALL astray because they didn’t know the Bible, and they still are skipping that part! But god made an exception for one man just for them? Right…… ugh
You know what’s funny, the second this video ended there was an ad for a prayer app that has Jonathan Roumie walking you through a bunch of different prayers, the rosary, and other things 😂 Now, of course, he definitely lets you know that he’s the actor, who plays, Jesus, but he definitely emphasizes using the app as a tool to age you, and growing closer to the true Jesus
You are wrong. In that App ad, Jonathan Rhoumie asked “Do you want to get closer to God?”. It’s you who said Jesus instead of God. Rhoumie as with Jim Cavazel who portrayed Jesus in The Passion of The Christ talked about “God” and not Jesus as with typical Roman Catholics.
Whenever we read the Bible, we have to use a bit of imagination.... like, ooooh he/she probably (fill in the blank). The only difference is, Dallas filmed his.
It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice. Philippians 1:15-18 NIV God can use any situation to bring people to Christ, I took the Chosen to as an opportunity to read the Gospel for myself. I am positive this show has helped more people than it has hurt. There are bigger battles as Christians we need to fight, imo this is not one of them.
None actually . According to Gods commandments . They both break his 2nd commandment (not mine , not yours nor Ruslans ) Let no man deceive you . The commandments are made so clear so that even a child would understand . & it as children we approach the lord , not as savvy business like influencers , this is not a dig at Ruslan or any one person . It is simply a fact . Blessings to all , & guys please read your Bible , Even the amplified makes it 100 % clear to make no kind of image . You may go against , Or disagree with it , But you are not siding with Ruslan or even Dallas Jenkins - you simply going against what God your creator has written . Blessings
I wonder if the problem some reformed/Calvinistic types have with The Chosen is that it portrays certain characters as having the ability to choose to follow Jesus or not. Specifically, Jesus called Nicodemus to follow Him and Nicodemus chose NOT to follow.
But the Bible is sacred. It should be above "creative license". If you're going to attempt to tell the story then be as accurate as possible. And if you do that most of the chosen would need to be removed because it's made up filler. They do too much. It's not scriptural. I consider it irreverent.
@@rhondal8887 it was written by Men. And continues to be diluted and changed to this day. It wasn’t the word from God, it is the word of God, which actually resides inside all of us.

I’m not to sure he said that , they are filling in the gaps that not written and thats ok but when it comes to the scripture they do their best to stay close but it’s important to read the scripture .it is not to replace the scripture . I like the chosen I got a bit turned off when Jonathan used his position to lead people to pray the rosary . That’s wrong ! . Mary is not to be prayed to she is not the mother of God , Jesus said he came down from heaven . Thus confirms the scripture it was God in Christ reconciling the world back to himself . God does not need a mother. When the people said your mother brother and sisters outside Jesus replied who is my mother who is my brothers they are the ones who hear the word and believe , the relationship is now going to be spiritual not mother and son , that’s why he called her woman at the wedding of Cana . Another time He had just finish speaking to a crowd a woman shouted blessed is the breast that fed you and the womb you came from. Jesus hit BACK more bless is the one who hears the Word and believe. He us looking fir us to have faith in him not in Mary . There is to much emphasis on the physical relationship God is spirit and we must worship him in spirit and in truth. You must be Born Again .

Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, 16 so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, 17 or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, 18 or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below. 19 And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars-all the heavenly array-do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

The Chosen has lead so many more back to reading the bible and going to church and so many more people looking into Christianity than has happened for a long time
I’ve learned a lot from watching the chosen , this guy is missing the bigger picture
Be carful you don’t want to fall under the fallacy of the ends justify the means.
Weather you all like it or not you all can’t deny that by watching certain figures or characters that are compared to God or Jesus there are people which when they pray they either intentionally or accidentally think of that specific image and therefore commit idolatry.

Omg! You explained that perfectly.

Great video. I love the Chosen and I by no means idolize the Chosen or any of the characters in it. Watching it definitely made me want to be closer to the real Jesus in a way that I had been before but fell back from.

@MossEYE-
But if the show has reignited a considerable amount of interest for Christianity, is that idolatry? Or would the show become more like an icon, in that it points us back to God?
@@pinesandtraplinescould you not argue that I could therefore create any blasphemous show about Jesus with a bunch of lies in it and that would equally get people interested in the bible. Does that make what I did right? No and that person may read the bible AND believe some of the bits in the chosen so therefore not have a true understanding of Jesus
@KingLudds
But theres a difference between creative writing, which the show does and is openly saying it's not 100% accurate to scripture, and outright lying with intent to deceive. If I say: "____ is my opinion about the Bible", would you say Im leading people into some sin because Im clearly stating an opinion but others dont understand that I stated its my opinion? Would that be my fault, or theirs?
@Lee-km7qq
Are you referring to the blessings and curses found in Revelation?
It is very clear you are not born again. The Chosen brought you closer to the religion of works and not to the Salvation in Jesus Christ.
@Jessica
You said the key word... RELATIONSHIP!
This is what Father God desires.
I saw that video too
That's one of the reasons I personally don't watch the show or like to look at depictions of Jesus
Oh alot of chosen fans many female say they see the actors face when they pray because they need a human face to pray.
Appreciate this. And in the video played, there is the quote, "worship is the highest point of your attention."
We've never seen or heard of a single person who has made The Chosen or Jonathan Roumie or his portrayal the highest point of their attention. All we ever hear is that the show has caused people to make Jesus and the Bible the highest point of their attention when it wasn't before.
That's all YOU have heard
Thanks for commenting here, Dallas. People are really missing the mark and getting legalist about this, citing weird possibilities instead of recognizing the impact your show has had on people who don't know Christ and on Christians who see Christ as so much more distant from us than He was and is. I see Christ in your work and through the actors you have telling His story. It is absurd to imagine anyone worshipping the show or any of the people on it. Thank you for sharing the Gospel.
Voddie, I believe, also takes issue with pictures of Jesus that people keep in their homes for the same reason.
He should then get rid of crosses too.
Exactly
God said not to depict his infinite form because
A. How can the finite depict the Infinite
Hence why I am a Confessional Lutheran...
I agree. I know the way my mind works so I think even the harmless extra-biblical things in the show would negatively affect my reading of scripture
We also need to realize that people in the Bible were real people. I'd hate to be the writer of any Biblically based show that took artistic license with someone's character and have to explain to them why I caused multitudes of people to see them in a wrong way.
Now this is a compassionate & effective communication.

@MisertheWizer No. I don’t think that it’s with the actor tbh.
@@MisertheWizer I like Jim's portrayal n have always liked The Passion but my reason for not liking The Chosen has nothing to do with that. I think it might be the way they talk.
@@tjhunter3530where does the chosen say Matthew is autistic
@@tjhunter3530 Not autistic but the way Matthew is portrayed as a social outsider is pretty accurate as tax collectors working for the Romans were seen traitors by Pharisees back then. So the way he´s portrayed as someone rejected by his family is not just an artistic invention but could have been his experience. But if the show tried to follow the Bible verse there would be even more of a problem since now one could argue that they try to replace the Bible.
I watch the show with 1 Thessalonians 5, 21 in mind.
Unfortunately many people can't tell the difference between what's in the Bible and what isn't.
@corychartier7961. That's exactly my thoughts. That's why I don't like the Chosen.
If it brings one soul to Christ then it is worth it.
The problem with the Chosen is not that it is fanfiction. It is that it rides the thin line on pretending that it is not. and that people do, incorrectly, interpret that the Jesus in the show is comparable to Jesus.
Also if it’s questionable, then it shouldn’t be done. God is not the creator of confusion.
I'm not incredibly bible savy, but are the stories in the chosen not the same as in the gospels?

Love the chosen, its a great show and has brought some of my family closer to Jesus.
Idolatry is literally anything that takes the place of God in actual life or in your heart. Like Ruslan said WHO IS REPLACING THE WORD FOR CHOSEN!
I loved this. Thank you. Jonathon is such a wise man. I have been visiting an Orthodox church and I've had so many people tell me they are worshipping idols...and I'm like no they're not and you don't understand that passage, but they are 100 % convinced they're right.

Icons can be a problem. When a correct/encouraged practice includes lying prostrate in front of the Icon because the veneration you give the icon "passes to" the one it represents...seems like a distinction without a difference with worship.

Bingo. Right on.
Well said hey
I think this is a matter of conviction. Which I’m fine with. We should respect each others convictions on this issue
Ruslan, bruh you do an excellent job processing through these topics. I'm not just blowing smoke just thankful that you take the time to be measured and grounded in your perspective. God bless you and yours Sir.
NO IMAGES means NO IMAGES. Fully agree with him. It’s a direct violation. I fear for these people when they stand before God.
Goed gezegd.
Do not fear, God didn't grant us the spirit of fear, it's the devil's work... fear is a liar...and so is Satan.
Voddie is right.
If you pray and see this actor "be true to yourself feelings aside" its wrong.
RIIIIGHT?!!!
For years, the way we imagined Jesus was as a white European. So why are we dividing over this?
Not really sure where the white european thing came from. I surely never saw that depiction, but I agree with you @@aaromotivestudio3869
Have you watched the chosen
That is not a good analogy
Yeah the problem is with the lazy viewers who do not think, not the creators of entertainment "based" on some historical facts.
@@fabionpettigrew195 Why?
First of all the most of the stuff that happens in the chosen are events that happened in the Bible so saying 75 percent is made up is wrong also there is nothing wrong with a show that deepens people’s love for Jesus
I pray that viddie is awakened and delivered of the spirit of religion in the name of Jesus
whether or not it's truly idolatrous to watch the Chosen, I've already heard people say that, after they've watched this show for an extended period, whenever they prayed or even thought about the Lord Jesus, they pictured the actor who played Jesus in The Chosen.
Everything good comes from God, yet people seembto find it so easy to take anything good and forget the God part lol
You listen to absolutely nothing of this video, and I feel bad that you seem incapable of that
The sad part about it is, after reading hundreds of comments, you’re the only one who gets it.
"If, because of the law, you prohibit images, watch that you keep the Sabbath and are circumcised; for these the law unyieldingly commands." St John of Damascus
Isaiah 42:17 They shall be turned back, They shall be greatly ashamed, Who trust in carved images, Who say to the molded images, ‘You are our gods.’
this verse captures the idea of idolatry which is **replacing** the worship of God with images.
Dude has been just giving takes like these for a minute. He is just a passionate dude. He is wrong and probably a little prideful. But passionate.
Yes! When it comes to the icon vs idol discussion! Exactly on point! I don't worship the cross, but when i see a cross it's a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice. I have a nativity scene that i keep up year round. I don't bow down to it, but it reminds me daily of the incarnation.
Amen ! This is what so.many are missing and keep missing !
"One dimensional", are you serious!?
God is not one dimensional. That is not my implications, and I'm not saying the Word of God is not amazing, and is not life changing. Because it is.
What?? One dimensional are you serious?? Some of you guys need to watch your mouth and read your Bible. I like the Chosen but are you for real?
@@visualfiction5241 Yes. It's words in print. Why do you think people like the Passion play, or all the plays Branson does? Because they like to see the words come alive.
LOVE this channel and am certain God has you at "such a time as this' to be doing exactly what you're doing. Keep going, brother!
We don’t worship actors we worship the being that inspired those actors aka Jesus himself 👏🙏
I want to know who Voddie is more of a Pharisee than a Born Again Believer? (A female preacher/teacher with a MDIV)
Exactly my thoughts!
What if the Lord told you through Voddie? (Hypothetically) And what He tells you is contrary to how you feel, would you really accept that?
"... if a fictional television show is your introduction to Jesus, you're getting a fictional Jesus."
Well said 🔥
I love the Chosen, it sparked my interest of seeking and having a relationship with Jesus Christ. The Chosen team just basically preached the Gospels to me through a TV Series.
I have to agree with Voddie on this one. Look at what the creators of the show said they are actually doing.
Any examples?
And?
@@Jerome616 1 - “Follow Your Heart” - but not to Christ
Jesus meets Nicodemus in The Chosen series, and much of their conversation seems scriptural.
@@Jerome616 2 - A Hearsay Gospel
Throughout the series, disciples like Matthew and John interview people, running around with notepads and writing down hearsay that will become their supposed Biblical books.
@@Jerome616 3 - An Arrogant Forerunner
In The Chosen, John the Baptist is arrogant, disrespectful, and always questioning Jesus.
I was introduced to chosen when it first came out by my in-laws.. who have been a huge part with my walk with the Lord from day, one
My ML first thing she said about it was how she uses it to replace her time in Gods Word when she skips her morning QT. As well as more things that looked like this was her new hope . They have been extras a few times because of how much they donate (normally I wouldn’t but this character)
My in-laws are very much involved in the church father-in-law ordained, Pastor, etc
my other child has special need critical thinking is something that is still not a concept to him.
How do you feel about parts that are more fiction, but tie in with scripture? Such as the background of the Samaritan woman?
This Jonathan guy just changed the way i look at idolatry. And i love that Ruslan commentary helped clear it up too. So good. Life changing
Right…… ugh
You know what’s funny, the second this video ended there was an ad for a prayer app that has Jonathan Roumie walking you through a bunch of different prayers, the rosary, and other things 😂
Now, of course, he definitely lets you know that he’s the actor, who plays, Jesus, but he definitely emphasizes using the app as a tool to age you, and growing closer to the true Jesus
Money
Catholicism
You are wrong. In that App ad, Jonathan Rhoumie asked “Do you want to get closer to God?”. It’s you who said Jesus instead of God. Rhoumie as with Jim Cavazel who portrayed Jesus in The Passion of The Christ talked about “God” and not Jesus as with typical Roman Catholics.
@@Landis_Grant your point?
I can say that The Chosen has made me want to deep dive into the word more
Whenever we read the Bible, we have to use a bit of imagination.... like, ooooh he/she probably (fill in the blank).
Philippians 1:15-18 NIV
God can use any situation to bring people to Christ, I took the Chosen to as an opportunity to read the Gospel for myself. I am positive this show has helped more people than it has hurt. There are bigger battles as Christians we need to fight, imo this is not one of them.
What’s the difference between someone picturing Jonathon when they pray vs seeing one of the “Jesus’” from a painting ?
None actually .
According to Gods commandments .
They both break his 2nd commandment (not mine , not yours nor Ruslans )
Let no man deceive you .
The commandments are made so clear so that even a child would understand .
& it as children we approach the lord , not as savvy business like influencers , this is not a dig at Ruslan or any one person .
It is simply a fact .
Blessings to all ,
& guys please read your Bible ,
Even the amplified makes it 100 % clear to make no kind of image .
You may go against ,
Or disagree with it ,
But you are not siding with Ruslan or even Dallas Jenkins - you simply going against what God your creator has written .

I wonder if the problem some reformed/Calvinistic types have with The Chosen is that it portrays certain characters as having the ability to choose to follow Jesus or not. Specifically, Jesus called Nicodemus to follow Him and Nicodemus chose NOT to follow.
You mean to tell me people haven’t been fantasizing about the actor who plays Jesus? That’s not idolatry??
How is it idolatry exactly? Did i miss the part where they worship Jonathan?
So when your church has a Christmas play and they put a baby in a manger, it's automatically idolatry?
You said that BEAUTIFULLY! It’s historic fan fiction!
This is hilarious cuz I was just telling a friend as of late when I read Jesus’s words, I hear the accent from The Chosen
Being able to challenge Christians in such a healthy way so needed. Thank you! Once again.
There is nothing wrong with the series. It’s storytelling.
‘Christians’ have no problem bashing other Christians
But the Bible is sacred. It should be above "creative license". If you're going to attempt to tell the story then be as accurate as possible. And if you do that most of the chosen would need to be removed because it's made up filler. They do too much. It's not scriptural. I consider it irreverent.
@@rhondal8887 it was written by Men. And continues to be diluted and changed to this day. It wasn’t the word from God, it is the word of God, which actually resides inside all of us.
The lies of the enemy are close to the truth, but they are not truth. Consult Gensis chapter 3 for reference. Don't be led astray, and if you have repent, God's grace is still sufficient and available.
The Creator of The Chosen even admitted they don’t follow scripture. Be careful of that show.
He literally said: "95% of the show isn't from scripture "
A mere human portraying the Lord Jesus Christ becomes an idol.
Voddie is emplemplying “How to kill the move of Jesus in the name of God” 😢
I personally wouldn’t work with Mormons because it’s quite clearly a cult but ‘The Chosen’ is not my Bible. BUT I LOVE IT!
