When others say " you are so lucky" l now realise no....l worked bloody hard, hard to get what l have now . Even through depressions l kept going...slow yes but l never gave up. I look around my room and l feel grateful for my resilience...little that l have...l hold on to it.

It takes a lot of courage to become a therapist and to listen to people’s traumatic life experiences, when you have overcome adversity yourself. I agree that it also takes effort and strength to overcome suicide ideation, to find your own meaning and path. We absolutely can’t make assumptions about others, we do not know what they have overcome in their lives. 💕

There's always a balance I'm trying to strike between ambition, high standards and self-criticism on the one hand and compassion for myself considering all I've been up against on the other hand. Like you, I want people to understand where I am coming from. In my community growing up, a lot of people knew my situation and I didn't have to explain. But after leaving that realm, meeting all new people in a different state, and here on the internet, like so many others I am just a stranger with a blank past they know nothing about.
Yes, that's how it works. Nothing is ever acquired or owned and change will come to us throughout our lives, whether we like it or not. Finding balance and knowing how to start again are important skills to learn.

I am just a couple of years younger than you and I can remember experiencing hardships in my childhood and young womanhood (actually , all through my 70 years if truth be told). We never saw then as hardships though, we just rode on through the problems and starved some days and almost froze on others! I think the younger generation need to understand that everyones life has its fair share of difficulties. The older generation might seem to have had it easy, but we really haven't
Just trying to do the work, in spite of the depression I have had for 25 years. It's not easy, and from the outside people do not understand the struggle. Spite used to be what I had to rely on before self-love, but this never really worked very well. It's hard to be your own mother and father, to exist when it seems like so many are against your existence, to be in a society bent on unbecoming. I think I am ready to embrace radical freedom from systems of Capital and State that prey on the most vulnerable while spreading hate towards Self and Other. I want to know how to get to a place of "privilege" (in my mind this is wherever I am surrounded by true compassion) where I am not at the mercy of predatory systems and people. Much love, Alexa

Think the problem for a lot of us is that we actually have a good standard of living, almost everything that we have ever wanted and yet we are still miserable..........some of us are not up to the challenge......
Agreed. Not having the focus of sheer survival makes it harder to know in which direction to go and how to evaluate everything.
